Customizing a sofa & arhaus giveaway

** This giveaway is closed.  Congratulations to the winner, Brooke Morrow!  **

This post is sponsored by Arhaus.  As always, all opinions and words are honest and my own.  (And you’re going to want to stick around, because this is one of the biggest giveaways I’ve ever hosted!)

Shopping for a sofa can be an intimidating process, especially if you’re buying it online, which is fairly typical these days.  Even if you are fortunate enough to see the piece in person, it’s usually not the exact piece.  You’re still customizing the fabric, finishes, and perhaps even the configuration.  You don’t know with 100% certainty that the piece will work until it’s sitting in the space.  BUT, there is a lot of leg work you can do upfront to greatly increase your chances of success and get the odds close to 100%.

So, let’s talk about customizing a sofa!

If you currently have a sofa in the room, that will give you a great point of reference.  Since we were ordering an L-shaped sectional that was similar in size and shape to our existing sectional, we compared the measurements of the Arhaus Outerbanks Sectional to the piece we currently have in the room.  How it would fit in the room was the first thing that needed to be considered.  If it was way too big, then I needed to look at other options or configurations.  In this case, the Outerbanks Sectional was just slightly larger than our current sectional.  It was going to be a good fit in the room.

The second measurement that I wanted to look at was the depth.  To me, a deep sofa usually means a comfortable sofa.  I like to curl my legs up under me and snuggle into the back.  I also like the option of adding pillows if I want more back support.  If a sofa seat is too shallow, then it takes away some of those options.  Again, I could compare the depth measurement to our current sectional as well as other pieces of furniture in our house.

Sebastian was so helpful when it came to measuring!

I told him to sit, so he came over to me and sat…about a foot away from my camera lens.

Anyway, the final measurements that we needed to look at were the openings and doorways from the porch to our living room.  There are few things worse in the decorating world and than buying a piece of furniture, eagerly awaiting its arrival, and then you can’t fit it inside your house!  Arhaus has a great Measurement Guide for all different furniture types to help customers avoid some common measuring mistakes.  If you can’t find a specific measurement for the piece you are considering online, then you can chat with one of their design consultants online or on the phone.

If you don’t have an existing sofa to compare it to, then try comparing it to the depth and height of a chair.  You can also tape off the measurements on the floor of the room.  Consider traffic paths, the scale of the room (ceiling height), and how this new piece will work with existing pieces in the room.

Once you are confident that the piece of furniture will be a good fit for your room, it’s time to pick out fabrics and finishes.  Arhaus offers a wide variety of upholstery fabric from neutrals to florals to geometrics and everything in-between.  Over 800 different fabric options!

(This fabric stash is what dreams are made of!)

And beyond selecting the fabric, you can select the finish on the legs, the finish on the nailhead trim, and even the spacing of nailhead trim.  Details make a room, so it’s nice that you can pick out the exact details that will finish the piece and your room off perfectly.

Now that our sofa was selected and all of the finishes, fabric, and details were chosen, that information was sent by Arhaus to their team in North Carolina so that our sectional could be custom made just for us.  The same families have been upholstering Arhaus furniture by hand since the 1980s!  That says a lot about a company.

“Our employees are forward-thinking storytellers – eager creatives and thinkers united under the same common banner: our mission to make Arhaus your home.”

Through this ordering process, I learned that the spring system on the Outerbanks sofa is 8-way hand-tied! This technique is the gold standard in the furniture business and is very hard to come across in today’s furniture market. The 8-way hand-tie technique ensures that weight is evenly distributed on the sofa. This is not commonly used anymore because it is time-consuming and has to be done by hand!

I love that the inside of my Outerbanks sofa is just as well-made as the outside.  I know it’s made to last, and will be a part of my home for many years to come.

If you’re in the market for a piece of upholstery, now is a great time to order from Arhaus.  November is upholstery month!  That means…

  • You can save up to 40% on upholstery
  • If you purchase a Sofa or Sectional, Get 50% Off a Regular Price Rug
  • SAME AS STOCK – Custom Upholstery for No Additional Cost
  • During the month of November, Arhaus will plant one tree for every purchase, in partnership with American Forests! These specific trees are going to help restore fire-damaged areas of California.

I love purchasing from and partnering with companies that seek out compelling ways to give back locally and globally.

So, let’s talk about this giveaway.  This is a major giveaway!  Arhaus will be giving away your choice between the Outerbanks Sofa OR the Outerbanks Chair, whatever will fit best in your home.  The winner can customize their pick in all of the ways I mentioned in this post – take their pick out of 800 fabrics, select the wood finish on the legs, and customize the details of the nailhead trim!

Pretty awesome giveaway, right?

  1. I find it a little sad to read a blog about a giveaway only to find I must go to Instagram to participate in said giveaway.

    1. Brenda, I’m so sorry about that. I made the assumption that the majority of my readers were on Instagram and entering wouldn’t be a problem.

  2. I agree with Brenda. I don’t use Facebook and instagram is owned by them so I don’t use it either. I also think it would have been rewarding after reading the post (and I always love reading about what you’re up to and all the projects and traveling you’re doing) to enter. It felt somewhat misrepresented.

    1. Jami, I’m sorry about that! I didn’t intend to mislead and I assumed the majority of readers had an instagram account.

    1. Marion, I’m not sure you will read this but I felt the need to reply again anyway. Some of the comments posted have me very disappointed. I can’t understand what has happened to make people get so out of sorts over a chance to win an object. Winning something is always exciting but certainly not worth insulting others over. I love and appreciate your blog whether your fixing an old piece of furniture, updates on cost efficient clothing etc. I purchased Linen Bee napkins for my daughter for Christmas. They are so beautiful I’m thrilled to give them to her. Thank you for your posting about them.

    1. I am sorry. That was not my intention. This is an awesome giveaway, so it might be worth signing up!

  3. Aww man… like the ladies above, I am also not on Facebook or Instagram, and so loose out on the entry as well. Too bad, it’s just ste style of sofa I’m looking for, but no way I can afford from arhaus..

  4. I thought the content was really useful for buying any piece of furniture no matter what the budget, so thank you Marian! I am not in the market for a new sofa right now, but in a few years I might be and I do like the style of the one you have chosen!

  5. Who knew the innards were so precise? 8 way hand tie? GAH!!! I have learned something new and I thank you.

  6. My father used to reupholster and refinish, and he would hand tie the springs. It is a lot of work. Unfortunately, I’m in the same position as those above. If you are putting it on the blog, I believe it should be for your blog readers. Although I think I am signed up for instagram, I do not use it, I looked at the photo, but the instructions are not understandable for me. I’m sorry that Myra had to be mean about it though. That was not necessary.

    1. If you have an instagram account, you can enter! It’s as simple as liking the image. 🙂

      1. It’s nowhere near that simple. There are quite a few more steps after that, including “tagging” a bunch of friends, and they never appreciate that. This giveaway is really about boosting your follower numbers, and that’s not cool.

        1. Those are additional ways to enter, but you don’t gave to do them all. Yes, of course, the point of giveaways is to engage with your current audience and reach new people. Arhaus is giving away a custom sofa and that’s very cool!

  7. – Marian, I do use Instagram but I’m not in need of a chair or sofa right now – so I won’t enter to leave the opportunity open for someone else – Marian, I love that you can show us how to do it ourself, how to order something very nice, how to travel and pack, how to paint a room, where you splurge and where you save – I’m very sorry you were attacked in the comments and that someone was being unkind because you were HIRED to go to Europe and teach a class and that you made the most of actually being there by staying a few extra days to explore the beauty Europe has to offer – I for one am so thrilled that you get to do this ! And I’m sorry that people don’t understand that even a giveaway has rules and hoops to jump thru (just like life does) – Some giveaways I enter, some I don’t – sometimes because I don’t want to jump thru those hoops – but I don’t think there shouldn’t be a giveaway just because it doesn’t suit me – thank you for continuing to open yourself and your family and your home us even with the risk of being hurt by unkind words – I’m sure you’ve enriched far more lives than you’ll ever know

    1. Thank you, Tracy. I appreciate your perspective. I do understand that this influencer/blogger world can feel over-the-top commercial at times and I’m very mindful of that, but it is a business and readers/followers don’t want to see the same things over again. It’s a tightrope and I don’t always get it right.

  8. I am also not on those media options but enjoyed the suggestions on buying a sofa. It’s not an easy process and one that (most of us who aren’t bloggers) don’t do often. Thank you, Marion.

  9. I’ve been a subscriber to M.M.S. for years. I don’t EVER remember Marion saying we would be friends. M.M.S. is a business and without making a profit, there would be no more business. Simple, no?
I do not belong to Facebook or Instagram, so this contest is not available to me. Are you part of the generation where everyone gets a trophy?
I enjoy M.M.S. blog and will continue to read it. Things change and some get left behind. That’s the way of the world.

  10. Marian, thank you so much for hosting this nice giveaway…wherever I have to go to enter…it isn’t an inconvenience to me and I appreciate you sharing with us. One thing I have learned as I have gotten older is that I NEVER regret KINDNESS…..but when I do or say something that is unnecessarily unkind, I ALWAYS regret it…it haunts me and I always wish I could take it back. I feel like some of these comments are mean-spirited and uncalled for. I celebrate your success and your willingness to share your knowledge here. You cannot please all the people all the time. You are not wrong here. God bless you.

  11. Also not on Instagram. Please see if the companies you work with might offer a different way to participate.
Please ignore the unpleasantness from earlier. There are many, many of us who love following what you do.

    1. The giveaways are almost always hosted on my blog, but this particular client wanted the giveaway hosted on Instagram. I appreciate this feedback for the future, though!

  12. Thank you Marian for taking me to Paris, Italy, for inviting me to your home with each blog. Have been a fan a long time and love when Miss Mustard Seed shows up on my email. Can’t enter this giveaway but I can hope someone really deserving wins the couch!!

  13. Same here! I have read your blog from the get go, every entry! I am not on Facebook or Instagram either. Disappointed with this as well. I understand why you did it this way, more people will see it! It is getting upsetting that the blogs are getting all this free stuff for their homes and trying to get us to buy it. It is a business however and this is the new rage, so keep reading or stop reading. Eventually blogs will no longer be once we all get sick of it. It grew because of the way it was. The new way of blogging may not be in the long run.

    1. I am sorry and can understand your disappointment. Instagram is free and easy to join, if you were interested. Just to clarify, I rarely receive stuff for free. I receive product as compensation for work I am required to do. It’s an unconventional job with perks (like getting pieces you love in exchange for work) and downsides (no benefits, irregular income, etc.) I appreciate your feedback, though, and I do care what my readers think. Thanks for following my blog.

  14. Wow! That is some mean spirited comments!
Jealousy doesn’t look good on anyone ,ladies!
    I don’t do instagram , and don’t need a new sofa
and if I did I would buy local or at a resale shoo because that is me HOWEVER, that was an informative post and as Sebastion’s biggest fan I laughed out loud at his shenanigans.
Head up Marion, the meanness says much more about them than you

  15. It is okay not to agree with someone’s actions and/or decisions, but to lash out at someone is just downright mean and unnecessary. Thank you Marion for the time and effort you put in to bring us your interesting, informative, and lovely blog. God bless you and your family.

    1. Yes, I agree. Feedback and opposing opinions are absolutely okay and I do take them into account.

  16. I’m not on facebook, but want you all to know you’re missing out on a whole different aspect of Miss Mustard Seed if you only read the blog. Plus the insta is full of wonderful designers and pictures. I’ve never posted a single thing, I’m just there for the content I choose.

Love, love love all the Sebastian pictures. He is one beautiful dog and it cracks me up because my dog always love to help too!

  17. Marian, It was not my intention to start an attack. I love your blog! I’m so happy that you are doing things I will never have the chance to see or do. You are an inspiration to me in so many ways. I have been reading your blog for years. I’ve watched all the changes that have come, the good and the difficult. I apologize for any hurtful comments I have made and instigated. My only intention was to share that many people don’t participate in instagrm. I’m a manual typewriter in a digital world. I am so sorry! I hope you can forgive me.

    1. Brenda, your comment was totally fine! There was another one that I deleted that was over the line and that is what some other readers were responding to. I always hesitate to delete comments, but when I’m attacked on a personal level by someone who doesn’t know me, I don’t need to facilitate that. Your comment was polite and I appreciate it. It’s okay to give feedback! 🙂

  18. Love love your blog I didn’t see any mean-spirited comments. I only saw comments that expressed disappointment. Since when can we not share the reason for a disappointment without being called mean-spirited? That seems petty. I was not fussing, I just thought you should know that not all of us Facebook and or Instagram. Of course, I will still read your blog and enjoy your wonderful travel moments.

    1. Jami, that’s my fault. I deleted the comment that was a personal attack and that is what the other comments were referring to. It’s absolutely okay for readers to give feedback and share an opposing opinion in a polite way.

  19. I don’t do FB or Instagram either – dang – what an amazing giveaway.

I have been shopping for a sofa for my den for months.

Great post, thanks for all the info. I am a big fan of Arhaus, too.

  20. Thank you Marian and Sebastian is so cute and made me smile! Have a great evening.

  21. I guess I didn’t see the “mean” comment but I am one of those “old school” gals that have followed you for years and enjoy your blog but do not care to be on Instagram. I just don’t have time for another social media time suck but best of luck to all of you who are eligible to enter.

    1. Anne, Marian deleted the mean comment that some of us mentioned. It attacked her on a personal level and was completely unnecessary.

    1. That is for an extra entry, so you don’t have to do that. If you want to, just share that post with a friend by writing a comment with their instagram handle. To tag me, you would leave a comment with @missmustardseed for example.

  22. Lets put this in perspective…a quote from Helen Keller: I cried when I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.
It is Marian’s blog, she can share what she likes, how she likes and when she likes. Not everyone can make such choices. Are you selfish or selfless???

  23. I love Instagram because it really is THE place where I can catch up with all of my favorite blogs- and if I don’t have a lot of time to read a blog in its entirety, I can get instant gratification by drooling over the the lovely photos 🙂
And facebook is the place where I can keep in touch with all my friends, no matter where in the world they might live..

  24. Your post was very informative and educational for furniture shopping. I can’t wait to see yours and hope I win one for my family also. ? I could read your travel posts every day. The way you can transport a person there with your perspective and descriptions is amazing. Thank you so much!

  25. I recently purchased an Arhaus sofa and absolutely love it. I got a REALLY good deal or would not have made the leap. My last sofa (Ethan Allen) lasted 35 years and went through reupholstery and slipcovers. I obviously look at sofas as an investment. I too don’t use Instagram so another reason I won’t be entering. Good luck to those who enter and I know you will love your sofa.

  26. Hi Marian I am a LONG time follower. I am now only catching up on a few months worth of posts. You might say I’m binge blogging. Lol. (Health issues have kept me preoccupied). I cannot express enough how much I adore your style. Yours is the only blog I follow. I am always so inspired by your posts. Your taste is exquisite, comfortable, and homey. I marvel at how much you accomplish in a blink of an eye.
I entered this contest. Fingers crossed. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
    Keep up the good work.

  27. I got rid of Facebook and Instagram both so it is disappointing BUT it was my choice to do away with social media! I love your blog…..you were one of the first blogs I followed and have gotten so much inspiration from you! Thank you!

  28. IG is my favorite!!! Thank you! I love love love this couch setup you ordered!!!!!!! If by any chance I win, I am going to purchase the other piece!!!!!!!! This is an A M A Z I N G giveaway! Thank you so much for this post!!!!! So excited!!!!! (They can duplicate your couch for me!!!! lolol) Your taste is exquisite!!!!!!

  29. Aww, I just want to pet Sebastian through my screen. What a sweetie. I am another of those who is not on Facebook or Instagram due to the time suck aspect of it–I AM in the market for a new sofa but I’m not sure I could go through with buying one online–I want to be able to test drive it in person. Thank you for your guidance on purchasing sofas–very helpful, especially the idea of taping off room on the floor to make sure it fits in your space the way you want it to. My favorite test didn’t make it on your list–I like to stretch out on a potential sofa to make sure it will be good for napping as well as for sitting! 🙂

  30. Hi Marian, I love this post with all the details on customizing a sofa through Arhaus, I will definitely keep that in the back of my brain. Your sofa is going to be gorgeous, and I’m so happy to hear Arhaus has a quality product. I don’t have FB or IG either, so won’t be entering this giveaway, but it sounds like whoever does will get a fine quality and beautiful piece of furniture.

I’m a huge Arhaus fan and am really wanting to buy a new bed frame (in desperate need of a new bed and frame for auto-accident caused spinal injury!) and a dresser from them at some point, but it will have to wait until I save my pennies. They have such pretty things! Good luck to everyone who enters, this is a fabulous giveaway!

  31. Well, friend. I love Instagram and your blog and Arhaus… and I entered… and so did almost a 1,000 other people. 🙂 It’s all good. THANKS!!!

  32. I’m also not on Instagram—darn I was confused by the post there because it wasn’t clear to me if you had to do all of those things, as in they were steps to get an entry, or if each one of them got you another entry.

  33. Marion – ditto to all the lovely comments. Some follow you from all over the world (I’m in New Zealand) and of course realise that these offers would not be open to us.

I Love what you do, I am staggered at the many creative talents you have and how you achieve some much!

Please don’t worry about any of the negative feedback. Thank you for your posts (you are the only blog I look forward to read every day).

    All the very best
    Celia

  34. I shared on Instagram but I don’t use it much. I’m not sure I did it right. I’ll have to ask my grandkids. 😉 Love following your blog

  35. Well, I did the instagram thing. Not sure I tagged anyone, but I sure tried, haha. What a beautiful giveaway. Thanks so much.

  36. I really need a new sofa so I used Instagram! Thank you for the opportunity to enter and I can’t wait to see how your new sofa turns out!

  37. While I understand that not everyone participates in social media, I truly did not perceive this as misleading in any way. & couldn’t imagine Marian ever doing something to intentional mislead anyone. I’ve been reading for many years & that’s not how I perceive her at all. Bloggers have giveaways all the time that involve social media. Maybe those without accounts would like to sign up so they can have a chance at this one as well? It made me sad that some felt that way & I just wanted to comment from another perspective on this.
In regards to the post, I thought it was very informative. I learned a lot from this one! The time & effort that goes into that type of quality really is impressive. Hard to find craftsman like that in today’s marketplace. Thanks for the education on this Marian!

  38. I have been shopping/looking for the perfect LR sofa for several years & was excited to see this giveaway! We obviously currently have a LR sofa, but since we are close to 70 feel this may the last one we purchase for this room & I want it to be perfect! My sister worked at Arhaus in the past & I know personally that their pieces are very well made. Hope I win – know exactly which pretty green velvet fabric I would choose for a sofa! Thanks for a fabulous giveaway opportunity Marian and the great information to assist readers for purchasing a piece of upholstered furniture!

  39. Great giveaway! Wish we hadn’t just purchased a new sofa! That said … THANK YOU for the notes on how to choose the best sofa on-line. Years ago (long before on-line was a “thing!”), I purchased a gently-used sofa from a friend. Rounded up a couple of friends and borrowed a truck to get the sofa to my new townhouse … only to find the sofa would NOT fit in the doorway, down the entry hall, and around a 90-degree turn! (insert sad face). The legs would not unscrew from the frame, and we could not “turn and walk” the sofa into the living room via any means. I was at a loss. Luckily, my father and his buddies realized they could “drop” the sofa from the street-level into my below-street-level patio, and we could open the french doors into the living room. What a fiasco! But it made for a great story! (We debated chainsawing it in half! LOL!)

  40. I used to read several blogs. Many of those bloggers share very little on their blogs now-they almost exclusively share via Instagram posts/stories. (For the record I love Instagram). Marian generously continues to provide inspiring/useful content via her blog in addition to sharing on Instagram. Thank you Marian for all you do. May your body heal and be energized so you can continue to pursue your every passion!

  41. Until I read your post, I had totally forgotten that I had an Instagram account…lol However, I did follow your steps, except the “stories” I had no idea what that is or how to do it. I love the sofa and chair and think your giveaway is fantastic!

  42. I love the sofa in Team Shale! A follower of your blog and you for many years. Always love your style and content.

  43. What a great giveaway! I’m also not on Instagram and I would have just been happy for whoever won – but thank you for including the rest of us anyway 🙂 Having too many choices is overwhelming to me. I’d probably spend days poring over them all just to pick the stock fabric! That sofa would work really well in my living room, and I’m (hopefully) a few months away from being able to replace the one we have. This one is going on my list!

  44. Hi Marion, I think you said we could post on this blog for a chance to win. We are moving in with our married son who just bought a newly built home. He’s single and is gone most of the time for work. He has no furniture and we had to get rid of most of ours. So a chance to win this sofa would be a dream. I would like the sofa in the Linen or off white it is pictured. But I also love the Buffalo Check I think you said you are choosing. I used to upholster some in my day…Arhaus looks like it makes a great product for sure.

  45. Wow! What an amazing giveaway! That is a truly beautiful sofa. I would pick the Thelma indigo fabric for my family room. Thanks to you and Aarhus for offering this.

  46. I would definately pick the chair in deso navy, it would be perfect in my master bedroom. Love your blog and Arhaus!

  47. Thank you for the opportunity! Would love the sofa in thelma moonstone. I love the eight way hand tied springs…quality is important in a sofa. Your living room is going to look amazing with your new piece (as if it could look any more amazing than it already does!).

  48. Thanks so much for the chance to win and for the informative post. If I were able to pick a sofa, I might go with Jennings Navy. So many beautiful options to choose from!

  49. Thanks for the opportunity to win something special from Arhaus. It ‘s a great chance for someone, and I am sure the winner will be thrilled.

  50. Thank you for the chance to win the sofa Marian. If I were to win, I might choose Thelma Indigo. I also love the fabric you chose and can’t wait to see the finished product in your home.

  51. What an amazing give away! The link to the Arhaus sofa fabrics didn’t work for me, but I would most likely pick something neutral or navy. Who knows, maybe with 800 fabrics to choose from I might try something bolder!
Anyway, thanks for sharing about Arhaus, their high quality standards, and for a chance to win a beautiful sofa or chair!

  52. I am in need of a sofa, actually a small sectional of sorts for next to the fireplace and Arhaus has beautiful craftmanship! Will certainly look into it. Thank you for the great giveaway!

  53. I would choose the sofa and I love the thelma rattan fabric. Thanks so much for this giveaway.
    Andrea

  54. I think the sofa would be amazing in the Tybee Seagull. What a great giveaway, and it supports workers here in the states!

  55. This sofa is perfect. I would use the buffalo check in black and cream. I love to dream!

  56. Hi Marian!
I could use a new couch in the worst way..amazes me how the decades go by and I continue to hang on to those items that I loved, and still do!
Please enter me in the drawing!
    Thank you,
    Carol

  57. I think I’d like the sofa in a neutral color, something that would go with everything. Love that you put this on Facebook as a giveaway also. Thanks so much 🙂

  58. Thank you for this opportunity! I love fabrics and would like to see them in person before deciding, but I am drawn to blues so, maybe, the Jennings Navy or one of the neutrals with some blue pillows. Love your blog!

  59. I would choose the neutral ivory shown or something very similar. I am also drawn to blue but have some striking blue wall paper in the room so don’t want to compete with the furniture.

  60. Delilah Dove is gorgeous! I hope to add a master suite on the ground floor of my house next year. I could see that chair in my room! Marian you inspire me to make the most of what I have and can afford. Thank you!

  61. Dearest Marion, what a graceful heart you have! Graceful because you address the negative nellies with such grace and kindness. I hope that we all learn to be more positive. I loved the people that found the positive in this post, the great advice and the time you took to write it for us.
Women, we need to be more supportive of each other, really, we do!
    Have a great afternoon!
    Diane Orciuoli

  62. Jennings Navy would be my choice. Amazing giveaway – some lucky person is going to be very, very happy.

  63. Jennings Onyx would be my pick! We will be moving soon…..so I will dream of new furniture 🙂

  64. I have been searching for a beautiful Cream colored sofa that would coordinate with my linen drapes and gray carpet. The Arhaus sofa would be a beautiful, quality addition to my home. Thank you for the opportunity.

  65. I would choose the sofa! Tired of ours, had it awhile now, time for a change! Thanks for opening the giveaway up to those who don’t use Instagram!

  66. If I were to win, I would go with the Jennings Maple.
Such a beautiful piece of furniture. Thank you for
allowing entries on your blog. I am still enjoying
your posts from your European trip.

  67. Not sure if I missed it but how do we receive 50% off on a couch. I’ve been looking at Arhaus couches the past few weeks. This comes at a perfect time. Thank you so much!!

  68. Thanks for including us just blog followers, too!!! I love Rattan theatre…. a nice buff shade!?

  69. Thank you so much for allowing entry through your website for those of us who do not use the platforms you suggested. I love so many of the fabrics for the chair, but two are my favorites: chalet aubergine and jennings maple.

  70. Hello, thanks for opening up the giveaway to your blog readers. If I was lucky enough to win I would choose vangogh dove. Beautiful furniture! Can’t wait to see yours in your home.
    Patty

  71. I would pick something in a tweedish cream color! Thank you for letting us enter on your blog, I did sort of enter on Instagram yesterday, but didn’t put a friend down. I’m not on Instagram often and not sure of the names my family and friends use!!!!

  72. We are hoping to replace our family room sofa after Christmas, although it’s only 10 years old it “grew up” with our 2 boys and is looking pretty tired. I love the classic silhouette of the Outerbanks Sofa and saw it for myself at our local Arhaus store. I think I would do Team Shale! Reading your blog is always a favorite part of my day 🙂

  73. Moving into a new home next month and in the market for a sectional, Howell Coal looks like the exact color I’m looking for. They look like incredible products so crossing my fingers. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

  74. Thanks for the opportunity! I’m leaning towards Team Quartz, but I’d love something durable like an off-white duck fabric. I just like the warmer colors like Team Quartz, so I’m afraid I’m on the fence!

  75. I love the downy aegean! Or maybe the Howell denim. Choices, choices! Thanks for opening this up on your blog!

  76. I would choose the denim upholstery for the chair.
Thanks for allowing another option for entering. You are a good hearted woman and I wish you well I your recovery.

Thanks for being fair to everyone!

  78. I am impressed with the quality of these Arhaus upholstered pieces. Thank you for the opportunity to try for this giveaway!

  79. OK, the outerbanks sofa has a million choices & I love about 6 of them, so elegant. I think my first choice would be howell navy, but theater granite, seagull granite and tune cobalt are also fabulous. Thanks for extending the giveaway. It makes it seem like the holidays.

  80. Hi Marion,
Very informative post on all the options available for the custom sofa. If I were lucky enough to win, I would most likely go with the Deso Artichoke. Green seems to have become my favorite color. Good luck with your recovery.

  81. So ready for a new sofa, as mine is 16 years old and falling apart! I would choose the Jennings Navy! Such classic lines and style – I’d keep it for the nest 16 years!

  82. My choice is howell bark. . .because i have four boys. . .who like to eat on the sofa. . .while watching tv.

  83. Thank you for always sharing so much with us! I love the sofa and would probably choose one of the navy fabrics. I am actually trying to find a new sofa for my Dad.

  84. Wow Marian! Thank you so much for opening up the giveaway to your readers on the blog. I don’t have Instagram. I’m sure I would get into way to much trouble and never get anything done if I had another rabbit hole to fall into!
That being said, I love the fabric you chose or Graceland slate! It really is a beautiful sofa, and you do have fabulous taste!
    K

  85. Thank you for extending this to your blog. So sorry some people just have to be mean, especially personal attacks. I just purchased a new couch but would LOVE the Outerbanks chair in Tybee Seagull. Wish me luck! Still love your blog after all these years! Keep being you!!!

  86. Thanks for the great blog post and the give away. Arhaus products are very very nice. I might start by looking at Howell Denim, but it is hard to tell without a sample in the area we could really really use a sofa!

  87. I need a sofa that dog hair doesn’t stick to! My linen sofa is a magnet for dog hair and it doesn’t come off easily so something that is easy to lint brush and heavy duty! With 800 fabric choices I am sure I can find one!!

  88. I would just LOVE to win the Lansbury in Tune Colbalt. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Get Better Soon!

  89. Yah… don’t know how to use Instagram or FB. One year ago this month, I downsized and have a love seat and 3 cushion sofa. I’ve pushed that sofa on folded towels all over the place trying to find a place where it will fit. I went thru the exercise of putting it on Craigs list, on Offer Up and Neighborhood. So frustrating! People wanted to know the size, even tho I put it on my ad. Finally I gave up and put an IKEA slipcover on it and it didn’t fit. So I had to take it apart and piece here and there and hope for the best. Now it has found a room and it sticks out past the doorway… So.. such is life as they say. I would purchase a love seat with fabrick that looks as close to drop cloth as I could find. That way it would go with the club chair that actually fits after I scooted it around with the sofa! Ha! So… that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

  90. Jennings Onyx sofa to the rescue! I currently have a brown, leather sofa in the den but it looks and feels far too much like a man cave! I’m trying for a softer, yet not too prissy feminine look that looks inviting and comfortable. This sofa is EXACTLY what I’m looking for! Thanks for hosting this giveaway and for your amazing blog!

  91. Hi. The daydreams this has caused! It would be so great to be the winner. I enjoy reading and learning from your blog. Keep it coming. Hope your shoulder is continuing to heal well.

  93. Hi Marian,
Thanks so much for including us in this wonderful giveaway!!! Beautiful sofa and chair and I would love the trophy Blanc swatch!!

    Thanks so much ?

  94. I would love the color team Oyster. I too have read very encouraging articles regarding performance fabrics and would love to have a new lighter color that would be easier to decorate around instead of the 80’s much darker color I fell for then! Prayers for your continued recovery.

  95. If I were to win the sofa I would choose Chalet Celadon as the fabric, because every girl needs a little green in her life!
    This sofa is so beautiful!

  96. What a special giveaway! I am so excited! A sectional in the theater smokegun fabric will make my heart sing. Thank you, thank you!

  97. Have never purchased a customized piece of furniture. My family isn’t hard on furniture, so it would be fun to pick all the details and see how long a really quality piece of furniture lasts!

  98. Oooh…thanks so much for Opening up the contest to your blog readers!! I fell in love with that furniture the moment you shared that you were getting the sofa!! Just like a prior reader, my poor sofa is very, very old (my puppy still likes it!)…but it is truly time to let it go…I would choose the sofa in Howell red! The legs in a dark stain…oh, my…be still my heart! Give your sweet doggie a hug…he looks so sweet….thanks again !!

  99. I would pick a sofa. My kids moved out and don’t have a lot of furniture. Not sure which fabric though, guess I’d let them pick.

  100. I would choose the Team Oatmeal for the Sofa Upholstery.
Thank You for the option to enter the giveaway!

Hope you are healing and hanging in there with the recovery time.

  107. Okay. I think I’m in LOVE with the Jennings Maple!!! It looks like it has enough pattern to hide the messes of everyday life and still read as a neutral in the room. But let’s be honest. There wasn’t a bad choice in the mix!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  108. I’d pick Jennings Onyx! I’ve never owned a piece of custom furniture, but there are SO many pieces to love at Arhaus!

  116. Thank you for allowing me to “pretend” I won so I could swoon over all of the beautiful color choices for my “new” sofa! I love Tybee Storm! Arhaus furniture looks very well made and I’m sure it is comfortable too. I appreciate all of your sofa selecting tips too (just in case I don’t win and have to look for one on my own).

  117. Ahhh, the choices are endless! I love both the sofa and chair and about 20 different fabrics! Thank you for the chance to win. I love Arhaus!

  118. I absolutely love the shape and style of this sofa. I would choose to cover it in the gorgeous Delilah Moss.

  119. I am having such a hard time choosing a color ! So many beautiful options but I keep going to back to Trophy Blanc as my favorite. Thank you for the opportunity that you and Arhaus have given us all with this giveaway… it has been so enjoyable to sit and look at all the options available and dream about winning . 130. So many beautiful choices! I’m torn between Indigo Chalet, Van Gogh Amethyst, and Van Gogh Fog.

  131. The “oyster” is pretty or maybe “trophy white”. I need to replace my 25 year old sofa! My two sofas are old but still look fairly nice for light colored upholstery, but something new and fresh would be fab!

    1. It would be hard to choose. They are all beautiful. I would probably go stock, oatmeal or quartz. Thank you for the chance to win. Your blog is the only one I follow. Your practical tips are awesome. I have one of your books too. As a mother of boys, I love having a little girl time with your blog! 🙂

I would have a hard time choosing between the many print/pattern fabric options… I love the Kubu Indigo…

  133. I have just repainted the living room and am shopping for a sofa. This one is beautiful and I would pick Jennings Lake.

  134. I would love the Kubu Indigo for my house! Thank you for opening this up to the blog! I love Arhaus!

  137. I love the Howell Redwood but, if i could not go that bold I would choose Vangogh Taupe! There are just so many beautiful colors.

  138. As a North Carolina native, I am so glad to see that Arhaus manufactures here instead of China! Yay for American made! I would choose Van Gogh Oyster. Love a light neutral which begs for a colorful throw pillow (or two)!

  139. I would have to ponder for quite some time as my sofa is over 25 years old and a replacement is a major life decision in my world! LOL Thanks for an opportunity to win a sofa.

  140. Ponder Lakeland on a chair. This would look great with my existing sofa. Thank you.
I enjoy your blog and look forward to each post.

  141. Think “Oyster” would be the fabric choice for a couch in my home. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  142. Hello! Thank you for the opportunity to enter. The sofa in Thelma Linen. Continue resting, healing and sharing your inspiration, photos and writing with us. I enjoy reading and viewing your work.

  143. Oh my. So many gorgeous fabrics. I’d probably choose Chalet Oatmeal or Chalet Smoke but some of the darker grays and greens are truly stunning.

  144. I love the chair especially in Taylor Moonstone. The Arhaus store in Columbus is so much fun. Great place to shop.

  145. I like Team Shale for the sofa, but I’d have to see a swatch to be sure. Nickel nail trim would finish it off. Lord do I need a new sofa.

  146. I love that all the comments are so different! I’d probably chose Chalet Natural- I love it!

  147. OOOhhh!!! I think I would go with Chalet Ash…it’s so hard to choose! They are all so beautiful!!!

  148. Team Oyster! Second choice would be Tybee Seagull. Thanks for opening it up for all.

  150. I love the Outerbanks sofa! My parents have a pair and I’ve long been thinking about incorporating it into my own space. It’s a tough call, but I would probably go with the Trophy White or Delilah Optic. There’s nothing more fresh and versatile than a white sofa!

  151. I would love the Ponder Lakeland that you chose! I have the same blue and white drapes that you had in your previous home, and I think the buffalo check would be beautiful with them. I just love the sofa and chair, and would be thrilled to have one of them in my home!

  152. I think it’s called Graceland indigo, that I really like…. but 3 kids have interrupted me while I’ve been trying to do this, so it’s anyone’s guess how accurate that is. Thanks for changing the giveaway to include your blog. I don’t insta!!!
    Fingers crossed…..

I would take any of them if I won the couch… lol

  158. I think I would get vangogh dove…just the right balance between too dark and too light (have two tabby kitties and a Scottie dog…so darker hides the fur better! Thank you!

  159. I think I would choose Deso Artichoke. So enjoy following you and this special possibility for your followers ~

  160. I think Team Mineral is beautiful! Its always fun to pop into the local Arhaus store to get inspiration and see all the new furniture and décor. I was impressed to read that their furniture is made using 8-way hand tied springs. This is the staple of quality made furniture and more furniture companies have gotten away from it. Thanks for the opportunity to win!!

  164. It would be a tough choice between the sofa or the chair. If I chose the sofa, I think I’d like it in Theater Storm, and if I chose the chair, I would like Deso Denim. Two different rooms – either would be beautiful!

    1. Arhaus makes beautiful furniture! I would love the chair in oyster as it would be amazing in my little sunroom that has a corner that is simply begging for a chair. Thanks for offering a blog filled with heart, soul and great information

  165. Thank you, Marian! I dunno …. too many choices and I’m not sure what to pick. Maybe Trophy Surf?

  166. Definitely Deso Navy on the chair. Wish I was brave enough to choose a pattern, but why change now?

  167. Pretty cool info. Sounds like a great company.
Right now I’d lean toward the Jennings Onyx, were I to order a couch or chair.

  168. Deso Navy on the chair and it would look stunning with my other chairs in the living room that have navy blue ticking. I would love to say it would be the sectional because that’s sofa is just beautiful but my house is small, but definitely has room for the chair!

I’d like select the silver-tone nail head trim with spacing as it is in the sample sofa, and the feet in either that silvery-gray painted color, or the lightest natural wood example. I think that combination would be gorgeous!

    Good luck everyone!

  177. Boy oh boy. As of this minute, the sofa in denim would be my choice. But I could certainly change my mind a milion times before it’s ordered. Well, at least 98! Everything is gorgeous and I don’t think there’s a bad choice in the bunch! Thanks Marian!

  178. Choosing a fabric would be a tough decision but with kids I don’t want anything too light colored. I like the Thelma granite… thanks for the chance to enter the give away! I love reading your blog!

  179. WOW! Actually, the chair shown in team oyster would work perfectly in my master bedroom remodel which we are in the process of doing! I sure love that chunky rug shown in the pictures too! 186. Such an amazing giveaway and the multitude of fabric choices is incredible. I think I might choose the sofa in Graceland Snow. The timing of this post is perfect as we are currently shopping for new furniture for our living room. The quality of this product is something that will have us put it on our options to consider list.
I look forward to reading your posts and always find some sort of inspiration. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  187. Thelma Linen would be my choice based on looking at the online samples. It would be the sofa to replace my 22 year old one!

The graceful curve and soft gathering of the arms. The deep seating one could get lost in. The beautiful turned wooden legs. At a quick glance I prefer the darker onyx tones, not solid though. 214. What a great giveaway. What a tough decision. I almost wouldn’t want to win because then I’d be pressed to decide. Vangogh Coal is my contest choice. But I love many options. I fell in love with your green. I also might like a neutral like oatmeal, especially after reading reader comments about how amazing the performance fabric is.
PS I’ve been wanting to learn to crochet for years and you just sit down and crank out some beauties! Must find some time and do it.

  230. Oh I ‘ve always LOVED the quality of Arhaus upholsetered furniture. I’d go for the sofa to replace a chintz loveseat I got 20 years ago!

  231. I think I’d go with Team Oyster for the couch if I were to win. Here’s hoping.

  232. I really enjoy your blog and Sebastian’s appearances. I’m not one for leaving comments, but I love Arhaus furniture and it would be so much fun to win the sofa so I decided to go for it. I’ve never had a solid color sofa but I’d like one in Vangogh oyster.

  233. Thank you for all the helpful tips. I have been having a very hard time choosing a new sofa but, hopefully some of your ideas will help my process! can’t wait to see your new room.

  234. I would choose the sofa and there are so many fabrics to choose from. I thought the Chalet Aubergine was really nice and would probably work for us. Thank you for the opportunity.

  235. Howell Denim would be my choice. I must admit that any of the colors would be perfect.

  236. maybe Van Gogh Oyster, or maybe Thelma Linen, or maybe Thelma Rattan, or maybe…..Such a great selection I would need to see samples. Many great choices to chose from.

  237. What a great giveaway. I might choose Thelma Rattan. I’d probably have to order a few samples to check for sure, though. Lots of potential choices! Thanks for the opportunity!

  238. Glad you’ve extended this drawing to entries on your blog. I would choose Tune Pearl. Thank you, Marian.

  239. I have been to an Arhaus and love everything about it!! I could only dream…. There are so many options but, honestly, my favorite is the in stock Team Oyster. Such a perfect neutral.

  240. The color that speaks to me is the Vangogh Fog. The green tone feels like the outside in total comfort. I’m dreaming of a good book, legs curled underneath, and a hot cup of tea…pure relaxation!

  241. This is such a wonderful opportunity to win the beautiful Outerbanks Sofa!!! I would choose Delilah Butter. I think Delilah Butter is the loveliest color on this gorgeous sofa. Thank You for this chance to own such a jewel!

  242. I would choose Jennings Maple, it is so beautiful. Thanks for the contest for me to win it for my home!!

  243. Thanks for the opportunity. Not an instagrammer. My choice would be the Delilah optic. Godspeed your recovery.

  244. The sofa is beautiful! I love the team oatmeal but the Graceland Indigo is so luxurious looking. It would definitely be a difficult choice. Thankful for the chance.

  245. I’m torn between the Graceland snow and tybee shell. I think fabric swatches would make my choice much easier, as it’s always hard to tell from a computer screen. What color did you end up choosing? Thanks for hosting such a fabulous giveaway ??

  246. I think I would go with tybee night. I❤️Arhaus. I agree with you
on the back of the sofas.

    1. I can’t decide between Howell Coal and Team Oyster. Love them both, beautiful sofa and fantastic giveaway!

  247. Love Jennings Lake, but hubby and I compromised on Tune Pewter. Beautiful piece in lots of different fabrics.

  248. I would love the sofa in Jennings Maple or Tybee Dune. Both are beautiful neutrals, and will look stylish for years to come. I learned the hard way after purchasing a plaid sofa in the 90’s that neutral is better!

  249. Beautiful! I would pick the sofa in Jennings Navy – I’m picturing it with my wood floors and light walls and I’m in love already!

  250. The Outerbanks Sofa in Theater Stream – what a lovely way to while away an overcast Sunday afternoon 🙂

  251. What a wonderful giveaway! If I won, I think I might choose the sofa in tybee storm. 🙂 Thanks for the opportunity!

  252. Mineral or Denim is probably what I would have to go with because we live on a farm with lots of red dirt and 2 dogs. I don’t let them on the furniture but they do rub against it! In and ideal world I like the Oyster and lighter blue color.?

  253. Team Oyster. I love Tyrol Royal but that was only available on the chair and I really really need a new sofa. My Domain sofa is circa 1990’s and it is on it’s last leg. 🙂

  254. I would love to snuggle up in the outerbanks sofa in the tune mineral color! So warm and cozy in that color ❤️

  255. I’d choose Jennings maple. Thank you so much for the chance to enter. I’m not on Facebook or Instagram either.

  256. I’d choose Thelma Indigo for the sofa, or Tirol Royal for the chair. Arhaus furniture is so beautiful! Thank you for the great giveaway.

  257. What beautiful furniture!! I love the color “Thema Indigo” for the couch. Hope it’s not too late to enter the giveaway!

  258. Team Quartz on the Outerbanks sofa, a perfect change from the same sectional sofa for 34 (OMG) years! May the odds be ever in my favor!

  259. First, a big Thank You for opening this to Blog followers who don’t Instagram! I’m Team Oyster all the way!

  260. I love a saddle brown leather, but I don’t think that is an option. Perhaps Downy Earth? All dreamy…

  261. So many choices! I’ve never picked a sofa and basically designed it from scratch, but oh how much fun that would be!! I’m loving Chalet Oyster and would just absolutely die if I won this!

  262. The choices are amazing! It would be hard to decide, but I really liked team oatmeal and theatre night. What a great gift to win.

  263. Tybee night! I’ve spent many on that dreamy, quirky island, and I think this color would be the perfect grounding piece for my funky, farmhouse, folk art, frenchy style!

  264. I love Tybee Shell! We’re moving into our new house this weekend and this would be so perfect!!

  265. I really love the darker shades so Deso Navy and Graceland indigo are the colors I loved so ? beautiful ?

  266. I like Jennings Cement. It’s the same color as our pup so it would be very dog friendly! ?Thank you for such a nice giveaway ?

  267. The chair in Graceland Storm. A chair would fit in our 929sf rehab. Yes, 929sf. Pray for me!?

  268. So many colors to choose from. I love the moto juniper, team mineral and vida steel. If I had to only choose one though….it would probably be the vida steel.

  269. Love the sofa! So many colors to choose from… I would definitely want to go with something light. Maybe oyster! Gorgeous!

  270. Love the fabric you picked, but think I would select Oyster for a couch for me. Thanks for offering this give away. Great company to work with.

  271. Love this couch! I’m really liking the nail head trim. It `would look stunning in my family room in the Brosh copper. Can’t wait to see your room with your new blue check couch, what a statement piece.

  272. This would be amazing to win! Hard to pick a color but with 4 kids would need to not go to light. Maybe team shale?

  273. Thank you for this opportunity! I think if I were to win, I know chances are quite slim, but just in case, I would love the Thelma linen for the chair! Thank you again!

  274. Thelma onex is what catches my eye. Decades ago we had an eight way hand tied couch, your going to love yours too! Thank you Marian and Arhaus for a chance on this awesome giveaway.

  275. Hi Marian. We are just beginning our search for a sectional for a home we are building. I fell in love with Arhaus Outerbank one and came home and realized I had seen it on your post. Have you gotten yours yet? I have read many poor reviews on Arhaus regarding issues of product and no resolution. With a hefty sale price of almost 6k I’m a little nervous of jumping in . This would be used as our everyday sofa. We have two dogs..one 57 lbs (boxer) and one about 30 lbs ( mini boxer) and 5 grandchildren ages 2.5 to 17 that visit frequently. And a husband who just plops down. Concerns are will it hold up to everyday abuse? Or will cushions flatten etc? I know you don’t sell this but I was hoping you got yours and can tell me how yours is holding up. Thanks in advance and have a happy Thanksgiving to you and your family

  276. I love the print you chose and would probably build my room as far as other furnishings around that.
