Lucketts Fall Market 2026 Preview & Details

Bringing a few paintings to potentially sell at the Lucketts Spring Market was a test to see how my art would do there.  Of course, after years of being a vendor at Lucketts, both at the markets and in the store, I had a good grasp of what would do well, but I never showed up with a booth exclusively full of art.  The test went well, and I sold all of the originals and most of the prints.  So, that left me with the question: should I commit to my own booth for the Fall Market?

I waffled and weighed and, in the end, decided I had too much going on to attempt to fill an entire booth with originals. Not only did I question my availability to produce 30+ framed works, but I no longer have my tents, folding check-out counter, and portable displays.  I have a few remnants from my market days, but not enough to furnish a booth.  I have a lot to figure out about setting up a portable space to display artwork in a way that fits my aesthetic.  My gears are already turning, and I’m already collecting potential display ideas for Jeff to build for me.  Based on my current commitments, I think I’ll be able to fill my own booth by the Fall Market of 2027.

So, this time, I’ll be piggybacking with my friends from Twin Oaks Tavern & Winery as I did in the Spring Market.  They were kind enough to let me crash in a corner of their tent Friday afternoon, and it seemed to work well for both of us.  For me, it meant I could just show up with a few paintings, prints, and books, and leave when the day was done.  Honestly, after bringing two 20′ trucks and filling up the entire Show Barn during my last Lucketts Market as a vendor in 2017, I need simple.

I’ll be set up at the market as a vendor on Friday, October 16, 2026, from noon until close.  (You can find details about the Lucketts Fall Market in Berryville, VA, HERE.)  I’m not 100% sure how I’ll be arranged in the Twin Oaks tent, but I’m going down the day before to set up, so I’ll share pictures and a map pinpointing where you can find me.  I’m bringing original oils, fine art giclee prints, a few framed prints, and two of my books – Move Slow & Make Things and Feels Like Home.  My plan is to do some shopping and mingling in the morning, so I’ll be available in case anyone is only there in the morning and wants to purchase a painting.  It’s a little loosey-goosey, but that’s okay.

Since the oil paintings are one-of-a-kind, I wanted to share the pieces I’m bringing, along with dimensions and prices.  I like to give potential buyers a chance to check their budgets, measure their spaces, and consider a purchase so they don’t have to make a rushed decision in the moment.

All originals are painted in oils, framed, and ready to hang.  Here are the originals…

“Snowball Viburnum in Window Light”, original oil on 19.5 x 23.5″ board in an antique wood and gesso frame.  The outside edge of the frame measures 23.5 x 27. 5″.  There is some wear on the frame, but it is in sturdy condition, and none of the imperfections detract from the overall appeal.  $1,100.

“Compote with Clementines”, original oil on 12 x 18″ board in antique wood/gold frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 15.5″ x 22″.  $700.

“Radishes”, original oil on 8 x 10 board in antique wood & gesso frame.  There is a small hole drilled into the top center of the frame (I’m guessing there was a poor hardware install at some point.) It is not very noticeable, though, since it blends into the ornate design. Outside edge of frame measures 11.5 x 13.5.  $350

I love the juiciness of this one.

“Cup of Mock Orange Blooms”, original oil on 8 3/4 x 6 3/4″ board in antique wood frame.  Frame has a small chip on the top edge of the veneer.  Outside edge of frame measures 11 3/4 x 9 3/4″.  $275

“Countertop Flowers”, original oil on 12 x 9″ linen panel in a gold leaf resin frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 17″ x 14″.  $450.  (The flowers are the subject of this painting, but my favorite part is the folded tea towel!)

“Midmorning Graze”, original oil on 8 x 10″ board in antique wood and gesso frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 13 x 14.5″.  $350.

“On the Hunt”, original oil on 10 x 12″ board in antique wood frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 14 x 15.5″.  $450.

“Charlie”, original oil on 14 x 11″ cradleboard in antique wood frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 18 x 15″.  $600.

“Sunlit Barn”, original oil on 8 x 10 board in antique wood frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 12 x 14″.  $350.

“Winter Evergreen”, original oil on 10 x 8″ board in antique wood frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 15 x 13″.  $250.

“After Manet”, original oil on 20 x 16″ linen board in antique wood & gesso frame.  Outside edge of frame measures 26 x 21.5″.  $900

Any paintings that don’t sell will be listed online after Lucketts.

Let me know if you have any questions about any of the pieces or about the Lucketts Fall Market.  I hope to see you there!

Shopping Wish List for the Country Living Fair

I have become a big believer in sharing my shopping wish lists publicly before going to an antique market.  It’s a bit like wearing my “lucky sweatshirt” when the Commanders have a game (which I do), but it often proves to be effective. Remember before the Lucketts Spring Market when

custom cut plywood art panels

When I first started painting with oils, I bought a smattering of substrates to test.  I painted on stretched canvas and linen, canvas and linen panels, oil paper, and gesso board.  Over the years, I learned that I didn’t like the bounce and fragility of stretched canvas and linen.  I
