look book two & new t-shirts

I have a bit of a reputation for getting things done quickly.  I can crank out furniture and whip through slipcovers.  But, I will fully admit that I am slow when it comes to putting out a look book.  It took over a year to get the first one out and about a year and a half to get out the second one!  A part of the problem is that I can set my own deadline, so I just don’t set a deadline and allow the project to “come together organically”, which means it takes forever.

So, after many meetings, e-mails, photo shoots, layouts, font options, painting, writing, collaborating, editing and proofing, Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint Look Book Two is finally finished and sitting in boxes in my studio.

Kriste and Heidi did most of the initial legwork to set the style and overall tone of the look book and then we worked together as a team to get it across the finish line.

This look book is very different from the first one.  Look Book One was meant to be a 101 primer; an introduction to our milk paint and finishes.  Look Book Two is a celebration of our European color line.  It’s filled with more advanced tutorials, like a Beeswax Resist, creating custom finishes by mixing waxes, and all of the ways you can use Tough Coat.  It’s also filled with inspiration from some of our retailers and friends from around the globe.

It took a long time, but I’m really proud of the end result and I hope you all love it, too!

I have to mention the cover.  Kriste brought in a picture from an Antropologie catalog where a model had open palms releasing a color powdered.

“Could we do that with milk paint?”

I absolutely loved the idea.  We can celebrate what makes milk paint unique by capturing the powder.

It took a lot of takes and we threw a lot of paint, but fortunately, we had a talented and willing photographer (Brianna Wilbur) and an abandoned mill across from the studio that wouldn’t be bothered by some powdered paint in the grass.

There was a lot of laughing and a lot of “one-two-three-go!”

Look Book Two will be for sale at the Lucketts Spring Market and we’re shipping it out to MMSMP retailers as their orders come in.  I’ll list it in my online shop soon as well.

I have decided to not reprint Look Book One and I have a few more boxes left, so I’ve decided to give them away with any MMSMP purchase at the Lucketts Spring Market.

And, we have new t-shirts, too!  They are in the same styles as our last t-shirts, just a different printed design.

Here is the one for milk paint…

Remember Megan’s office makeover?  When I asked her how she liked the wardrobe, she said it’s been perfect and she “loves the smell of milk paint in the morning.” When I was brainstorming with my designer, Reni, about t-shirt sayings, this kept coming to mind.

And we have a “move mountains in your home” t-shirt based on the chalkboard in my studio.

We have each shirt design in a ladies cut tee that is fitted and runs a bit smaller and a unisex tee that is more generously sized.  Both shirts are made of a tri-blend fabric that is super soft and doesn’t shrink and come in small to XXL.

I’m bringing the shirts to sell at Lucketts and then I’ll list them online after the market.

Right now “after the market” is pretty much my motto.  If you send me an e-mail or ask me anything, that’s pretty much the answer.

Now I need to hand stitch some pillow closures…

Happy weekend!

PS – Since a lot of you asked, I will have Look Book One and Look Book Two available online after the market as well!
