milk-painted wash stand

I was done buying furniture, but my friend Traer offered this old wash stand to me at such a great price that I couldn’t refuse.  It’s sort of like fitting in dessert after a big dinner.  It’s just a little piece of furniture, so we can find room for it!

The finish was pretty messed up and it was dirty and lost its luster, so painting it was an obvious solution.

This was another tag-team project in the studio.  Kriste’s friend Leslie, who’s done some organizing for us in the studio, was hanging out with us for the day, so we put her to work.  Turns out, that meticulous organizing translated very well to tidy painting, so I told her she can come paint any time she wants to!

Kriste applied the second coat, we worked together on the distressing, and then applied matte Tough Coat to seal the chippy areas.

We’re all so in love with the color.  It’s a custom mix of equal parts MMS Milk Paint Layla’s Mint, Eulalie’s Sky and Shutter Gray.

The cool thing is that the color almost perfectly matched this painted stool, that was wearing this paint when I bought it.

I couldn’t resist using my little antique duck toy in the shoot…

I’ll share more on this shoot next week, but pretty much everything in it will be for sale at the Lucketts Spring Market.

And, I bet you’re wondering about that bed.  More on that next week, too…

    1. I totally agree that is a beautiful color! Need to make it part of the line. I personally can’t afford a bunch of different milk paints to do that sort of thing but I would definitely buy 1 bag of this color!

  1. Can someone please remind me what the name is of the plant on the nightstand? I did read yesterday’s post on them, but each plant was not specifically named. I am not at all knowledgeable on plants and flowers. Thank you!

  2. It is just amazing how this paint color brought out pretty lines and sweet little keyholes on this piece! What a lovely fresh makeover of something that was so tired and dingy 🙂

  3. these pieces are so cute, they look adorable in that setting, don’t know how you part with some of the things you sell, all so nice.

  4. And not just the cute duck but some vintage Bobbsey Twin books too in that darling staging.

  5. That little stand turned out really nice. How did you decide to mix those specific colors together for it? Had you used that recipe before? I’m always curious to know how things come together and why. I predict this stand will sell the first day at Lucketts!

    1. No, I just have an idea in my head how colors will turn out and usually it’s pretty close. 🙂

  6. Gosh, I didn’t even think about using that as a night stand! So cute!!!!

  7. Our house in Maine has one of these in each bedroom, painted from over 50 years ago. I never knew they were washstands, though.

  8. Is there any way you could mix me up some of this color and send it to me! I love it and I will pay for it!!!

  9. Totally agree on adding that color to the line. I would not likely use any of the three that created it alone, but would buy it tomorrow if it was available. It’s such a great spa color…very restful.
