dressing the bed for winter

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Brooklinen.  As always, all words and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

I don’t remember the last time I had sheets on my bed that weren’t white or cream.  It just became my go-to since it’s classic, timeless, and looks fresh and beautiful in all seasons.  But, as I was thinking about decorating our room for Christmas, I decided it might be a good time to try out some color.

If you know me, you know I would’ve selected one of two colors.  Blue or green.  I picked blue.  More specifically, Brooklinen’s limited edition Indigo Washed Linen Core Sheet Set.  I really underestimated how much punch changing the color of the sheets could add to a room!

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you may have read about Brooklinen here before.  I’ve worked with them as a blog sponsor and I’ve ordered from them as a customer for over five years.  I continue to work with them because I absolutely love their bedding and towels.  Every piece is well-made, hard-wearing, comfortable, and beautiful.  And, what I like best about Brooklinen is they stand behind their products.  They have over 100,000 five-star reviews not only because of the attributes I just mentioned but also because of their excellent customer service and quality guarantee.

In addition to the Indigo Washed Linen sheets, here’s what’s on the bed from Brooklinen…

If you have never tried linen sheets before, I want to encourage you to give them a try.  There is a reason why they were the staple choice for bedding for centuries.  When I first tried them out, I remember feeling skeptical and it took me a night or two to get used to the texture.  But the magic of linen is that it gets better with each use and each wash.  It doesn’t get pilly like synthetic material or some cotton blends.  It gets softer, more relaxed, and more comfortable to sleep in.  It is my very favorite fabric for bedding.  I’ll sometimes pull out the cotton sheets, especially during the peak of summer, but I always go back to linen.

Brooklinen’s linen sheets are made from 100%  European linen flax and they are stonewashed to start the softening process before you even open the box.  I also like that their bedding is generously sized for thick mattresses so the fitted sheets fit snugly but aren’t impossible to get on or popping up at the corners.  The flat sheet, quilt, and comforter have a nice overhang and it stays that way even after washing.

I think linen sheets fell out of fashion for a few decades because people thought you had to iron them.  I work with linen a lot…I have it in my house as kitchen towels, tablecloths, napkins, and slipcovers and I often wear linen shirts and dresses.  Even my summer pajama pants are linen.  And, even with all of that linen, I rarely iron.  Sometimes I want a dress to look particularly smart or napkins to be smooth for a photoshoot, but most of the time, I let linen be rumpled, and I sort of love it that way.

That crinkled texture looks so inviting to me!

I’ll share a bit more about the Christmas decorations in another post.  I haven’t decorated our bedroom for Christmas in several years so it was fun to add a few seasonal touches.

And, I painted these walls white when we first moved in after we removed wallpaper and scrubbed off paste for a couple of days.  I was just too tired to pick a color and honestly, I felt like I needed white walls at that time.  I needed a clean slate.  But now, I’m thinking this room might get some color on the walls next year.  This house seems to like color.

  1. The Bed looks inviting, just lovely. My bedroom has been a very pale pink for years but now I want a pale blue. I picked Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore, it is a blue but with a green undertone. I can hardly wait for the change because the color has such a calm feel about it. My hairdresser has it in her salon years ago, soothing color.

  2. Love linen sheets and this blue is so pretty. The headboard looks lovely w/ the garland draped across it.

  3. The bed reflected in your armoire is spectacular. Remembering the evolution of your bedroom makes even more so.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

  4. So beautiful! Love it all, and those green and blue pillow covers are so lovely together. I’m feeling like these might be some that you and your mom just whip up when you are doing your room makeovers.

  5. The garland turns me off. It’s my bed… really?! Love your decorative ideas but putting garlands on the bed just is too much

  6. love the garland. so ready to embrace winter and its beauty with the faux garland. so cozy, cottage looking.

    1. I think I got those at Hobby Lobby. They are about 2″ in diameter but have smaller bases and seem to be a good size. I’ll usually use a typical pillar candle for the middle.

  7. I love the garland. Is the eucalyptus part of the pine garland, or did you add that?

I think bedrooms need to be dressed up for Christmas, maybe even into winter.

And I’m looking at the linen sheets, just can’t decide, I don’t like them looking so rumpled.

I can’t wait to see your house decorated for Christmas.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  8. Do you have a link to the linen pajamas you mentioned? It’ so difficult to find PJs made from quality, breathable fabric. And I just love that particular shade of blue on your Brooklinen sheets—they pop!

    1. I actually bought them from Old Navy on clearance a year ago, so they are no longer available. I was surprised to find 100% linen pants there! They were meant to be regular pants, but I bought the oversized and, to me, they look more like pajamas. They weren’t the highest quality linen, so they were a little rough at first, but after several washes and wears, they are perfect.

    1. Thank you made the blue & white block print pillows a few years ago and the green pillowcases are from JSH home.
