Alright, alright!!!  I confess!!  I ate wheat!!!!  Yes.  I did.  My husband wanted to go to Olive Garden tonight with my boys and dad and I raised the white flag before we even got there.   My mouth started watering as soon as the breadsticks hit the table and I caved.  I hold my head in my hands.  On a bright note, though, I had two breadsticks, but I had salad for dinner and some potatoes that my son didn’t eat.  So, it was a little failure and a little victory.  Let’s move on, shall we?  Here are my favorites from last week…


I love the washed finish on the drawers of this French provincial dresser by Fab Rehab Creations.  Finishes like these can be tricky and I think this turned out beautifully!


It’s easy for dark waxes and antique waxes to run away from you, so this tutorial by Allison of The Golden Sycamore is an awesome answer to fixing the “streaky problem”.

I love the play of natural wood stripes against the rich paint color on this highboy dresser by Beach Glass Blonde.  Sometimes I pass on these simple pieces, but this is such a great example of how they can become striking.

    Regarding breadsticks: Perfection is not required. Unless you have a true gluten intolerance, don’t beat yourself up. Moderation is always a good policy.

    The only way I would have prevented from eating breadsticks is if I had duck taped my mouth shut before going there. I really like their breadsticks and salad. And it is best when dieting to confuse your body – you don’t want to go into starvation mode whereby your body stops using up calories thinking that you are going to starve. It is self-preservation but it is a mess when trying to diet. You should have some off days where you eat whatever you want (in moderation of course :-)). I love all of the furniture. I will watch the tutorial closely – I will be doing some dark antiquing.

    Good news for eating wheat-free at Olive Garden! They have a gluten-free menu. I have been allergic to wheat and milk for over five years and am constantly on the hunt for alternatives to wheat. There are so many more options available than even five years ago. I began a series: 31 days living wheat- free and dairy-free on my blog in October. I had some health issues that interrupted the series, but you can find some helpful tips.

    I chuckled and then laughed over your breadstick temptation because I have been there!!! “Oh well,” is a good motto. Give yourself the break that every now and then it is OK :). We have to live life too! I heard a good quote that went something like this,” It is not what you eat in November/December that matters the most, it is how you eat from January to October that will make the difference.”

    you are doing fine on the diet…one flaw with it is you are restricted with specific foods, not portions(?) but you are on your way. I congratulate you on your committment!!!!!!

    Don’t beat yourself up about your restaurant visit. Sounds like you’re doing fine (tracking portion control & calories) and will continue to as long as you don’t give up when you “fail” (using YOUR word; I’d call it a “hiccup” or “blip” or even just a “small cheat”) – and get right back “on your horse” rather than say, “Oh well, I’ve already blown it, so I might as well eat . . .” That way, as long as you’re aware of what you’re choosing to put into your mouth, you’ll stay “on track” toward your goal. Think of it as a GPS system: you might stray from the path, but you get there eventually even with a SLIGHT variance.
    You look noticeably better than you did just a few short months ago! Even better, it sounds like you FEEL great, too (improved energy & stamina).

    Good for you — I hope you really enjoyed your little carb indulgence. Variety is good for the soul.
    As are days off — I used to think of those days, when the kids were home from school without any scheduled activities, as mental health days. Time to kick back and let yourself NOT look at a clock!
    Enjoy your time with your boys — my girls are old and used, now. 😛 Still love ’em, but they just refuse to wear footie pajamas on Christmas morning.

    It’s hard not to eat wheat when you go to an Italian restaurant! I know olive garden (as well as many others) has a gluten free menu if you ask for it, that might help when deciding what to eat. 🙂
