Black Friday Antique Shopping

I am staying with my in-laws in Raleigh, NC and I can hardly resist the opportunity to hit some antique stores while in a new area, so I didn’t.  I dragged my mother-in-law and mom across Raleigh to hit some spots I was told about.  I didn’t come home with any super crazy amazing exciting pieces, but I had a great time and did find some good pieces for myself and to sell.  We started out the morning at Suzanna’s Antiques, which is in a little collection of antique store cottages.  Brittany from Pretty Handy Girl was there to meet us and act as a tour guide.
We also hit the Thieves Market Mall, Gresham’s Antique Mall, Pier One, and Panera bread for lunch.

There were cool pieces everywhere we stopped.

I loved this dresser, but it just needed more work that I wanted to take on at this point and I didn’t want to have to lug it home.

The patina on this croquet set was amazing, but too expensive.

…and I absolutely loved this glass cheese box.  I almost bought it, but one of the panes was cracked and it was pretty expensive.  I really wanted to get it, but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it.
The best part about going to antique stores on Black Friday?

No lines!

I am the bum in the bandanna who forgot to put on mascara this morning and Brittany is the cute one.  It was just like meeting an old friend.  We hunted, chatted and she even found some things she thought I would like…and I did…and I bought them.  Great shopping buddy!
Here are some things I bought…

…part of a doll buggy.  This was a strange purchase, but it just spoke to me.  I think it would look so cool in a table scape or on a mantle.  It’s going to be fun to explore the possibles.

The tobacco basket was one of my favorite finds.  I’ve always wanted one, but they are always too expensive or in really poor condition.  This one was in good condition and was cheap!  Sold to the woman in the bandanna with no mascara!

I also bought this cast iron urn with the birds on it, some ironstone, an antique fan, two scales and more.
Thanks so much to Brittany for leading us around and to Trinity for revealing some of her favorite thrifting haunts to me.  That is very valuable information to a thrifter!
Tomorrow, we’re going to the Raleigh Flea Market at the fair grounds.

  3. SO COOL! I love reading your blog and what a super pleasant surprise it was to open your post up and see SUZANNAS as your first photo… I had to do a double take 🙂 I'm a Raleigh native and I love love love making my trips to Suzannas. 6. What a fun weekend, Marian! Your treasures are just awesome! That tobacco basket would be my fav too! They make such a beautiful display all by themselves on a wall. Have a great day hunting for more goodies tomorrow! 🙂

  7. Hi. I've been reading your blog through my feed reader for quite some time now, plus every time I click over directly to your blog, I always make a point to "follow" you (why do I have to KEEP doing that, do you know?), but I don't think I've commented until now — and because this post does NOT offer a giveaway. Don't get me wrong, those giveaways provide an excellent resource for finding new blogs to love and friends to make and, frankly, sometimes those giveaways are the only way I WOULD find the blogs. But I particularly wanted to introduce myself to you to say thank you. I never thought I'd blog again myself, but after months of following your blog, I finally realized I couldn't NOT have a blog, and it's all because I have been (AM) so inspired by yours. You make fabulous stuff, your tutorials are great, your personality is wonderfully attractive and you take great pics. Who couldn't love that? No one, I tell you. No one! 🙂

Now, please don't think I'm using this as an opportunity to promote my own blog (seriously, it is nowhere NEAR being ready for prime-time yet). Maybe it's the holiday that finally made me write. Whatever it is, I just know that I finally HAD to. Thank you so much for what you do for so many of us here. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  8. Cute buggy! And this sounds like MY kinda Black Friday shopping day. Looks like fun! I stayed away from the stores for the most part. I was in town afternoon and went in 2 stores. LOL Did grab a great boot deal though.

  9. I can't believe that you are in Raleigh. I am not far from there. Wish I were free tomorrow and I would come down and go to the Flea Market at the fair grounds with you. I am hosting our family Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, so I won't be able to come this year. Maybe another time. You will love it!! Have fun!!! Love & blessings from NC!

  10. You are so welcome Marian! I hope you had fun. The Raleigh Flea Market is going to top it all off 😉 I go weekly and my daughter groans everytime I drag her! Hahaha! Can't wait to see what you find there! The outdoor booths are where it is at. Indoor is fun to browse but pricey! Have a great time!!!

  13. It was so great to meet you yesterday! I am Jenny, the lady behind the counter at SuzAnna's Antiques! I have gotten so many links to this post from many of our shoppers and friends! Thank you! Next time you are in town let us know. We can have a blogger party get together!!

  14. I really like the tobacco basket, especially the color. Mine is darker than I'd like, but it was like finding a needle in a haystack at the time to get one at a reasonable price, so I took it.

  15. You found some great things! I especially love the buggy…just the way it is! It's definately an all-season piece….pots of flowers, pumpkins, miniature trees or presents….

  16. Hi Marian,
Sounds like a really fun day, even if you didn't bring home a super amazing score. I think my favorite part of your day was lunch as Panera! Are they the best or what? Hmmmm…I think I may have to run down there! So yummy!
Hopefully you'll score on your next jaunt. ;).
    Blessings to you,
    Missy

  17. WOW! You were in my neck of the woods! I live in Cary, just outside of Raleigh. I L.O.V.E. your blog! I have been following it for quite sometime and so enjoy it. Your projects have been such an inspiration to me! I have a large booth in Thieves Market Mall and was so excited that you were able to visit there, thank you. I am going to head up to PA probably in the spring to hunt and gather myself. 😀 Hope you & your family had a blessed Thanksgiving. God bless, Kim

  18. Sounds like you had fun! Isn't Pretty Handy Girl interesting? She is one of the smartest bloggers around. Her instructions are really good. I didn't go Black Friday shopping because I was on the road, but I did go to Good Will today and bought tons of silverplate and one French Ivory knife. Ralph Lauren Outlets are having 30% off for a few days. Got some beautiful sheets and things for under $10. Ann

  19. Oh! you're in my neck of the woods! …and you got to meet Jenny at Suzanna's! She's a sweetie. Did you tell her that you're a blogger? …and Mary and Vanessa – were they there? Mary might be out of town! Well, if I knew you were coming, I would have tried to meet you there!

So happy you had a great time!

    xoxo

  20. Oh my goodness you're in my favorite city and state!!! I just got back from Cary not to long ago.

Where are these delightful antique places at? I'll be there again in January. My last visit didn't leave much time for me to go shopping even though I was there a whole entire month:(

I really need to make a list of my favorite blogging friends and their shops. That way on my travels I can visit them.

The buggy is so precious and will look beautiful with some garland and sparkly wrapped through out it. A doll or maybe a ratty basket filled with holiday type fruits.

    Blessings,
    Shanna
