Finds & Fabric

This morning I had to deliver furniture to a client and then head over to a mural job. I couldn’t stop at any yard sales, so I rubber-necked my way past a whole slew of them. It was just killing me. After the work was done, I was able to hit one of my favorite thrift stores. I spotted this little wagon immediately, but knew it had to be outrageously expensive. It didn’t have a tag, so I asked a woman who works there. (I’m not sure if it’s embarrassing or something to brag about, but the people there know me pretty well.) So, she hummed a minute and said, “How about $4.00?” I don’t even think I answered her. I just picked it up and carried it behind the counter to start my pile.
I love the silvery blue paint. And this wagon is very petite, so it’s great for decorative purposes. It just needs a scrubbing and some poly, so we don’t all die of lead poisoning.

I also got this aluminum 2 tiered serving piece for $2.00 and a silver bucket (not pictured) for $3.00. All in all, it was a pretty good stop. (Sorry about the slightly blurry pic…) They also gave me some shelving and clothing racks for our new shop for FREE. My shop owner was thrilled!

So, I thought I would share a non-thrift/yard sale find with you today as well. I LOVE hemp and old linen fabric and grain sacks, but they are expensive. For quality hemp fabric you are talking $30-50+/yard. Not in my budget. Yours? And the gorgeous pillows made out of that stuff…$38-75.00+. Yikes.

(Just an FYI, these pillows are from Cool Material .)

So, while at a Super Wal-Mart on Thursday I checked back in the fabric section to see what they had. I found my favorite Sanded White Cotton Twill for $4.97/yard, so I bought everything they had (sorry to everyone else) and a fabric next to the twill caught my eye. It has this wonderful nubby, natural look that was a lot like hemp. And it was only $2.57/yard! So, I bought 5 yards of it. I’m going to try the picture transfer thing on them to see how it turns out. I’ll share the details, of course, but I thought I would share what a great find it was.
I also purchased 10 yards of this upholstery webbing for $.67/yard. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with it, yet, but I’ve got some ideas up my sleeve. Stay tuned!
Also, thanks for all of the wonderful suggestions for my kitchen! I have lots of things to think about, dream about, and cost out. I’m glad that such a creative and thrifty bunch of ladies (mostly ladies) read my blog.
I’m linking up to Thrifty Thursdays at Bloggeritaville. Great linky party, so make sure you check it out!

  1. Late much? : )

That wagon would be very cute in my shop! I really like the pillows too and am looking forward to seeing what you do with the fabric. I was at Wmart last night and bought a Wilton gum paste sculpting set…I think that's what it was.
