Today is a good day for my little blog. First of all, my
Desk Make Over was chosen as a favorite at
Kimba’s DIY Day and my post on
Rub On Poly & Glazing Techniques was featured at Funky Junk Interior’s
Featuring You Series. It is always so encouraging to know that my work, tips, and posts are appreciated! Thank you so much!
Here is my newest makeover. This was a very simple one and an example that starting with a great piece makes all the difference. I purchased this mirror a few weeks ago for $5.00 at a thrift store…or was it a yard sale…all of this junking becomes a blur after a while.
First of all, it needed a good cleaning. I then removed the mirror from the frame to apply a Spray Primer by Krylon followed by two coats of a White Satin spray. I really liked this piece as a mirror, but thought it would look cool as a chalk board as well. Why not have both? So, I painted the back of the mirror with 2 coats of chalkboard paint. I can simply flip it over to reveal the mirror side when I want to. I love versatility!
So, here’s how it turned out. This frame is just to die for! I love the curves and scrolls.
You can spray any frame and insert a chalk board, but it’s the shape of this frame that really makes it a special piece. Keep an eye out for a detailed frame and you can easily reproduce this look. I love it so much…I think it’s going to find a home in my office instead of my shop.
Make sure you come back tomorrow for Furniture Feature Friday! Next week will be the first linky party, so get those projects ready. In my post tomorrow I will show what the giveaway will be in order to provide some incentive and I have a great feature in store for you. If you love furniture makeovers, become a follower, grab a button, and spread the word!
Also, there’s a great party happening at Funky Junk Interiors on Saturday. I’ll be there!

This is a beautiful idea…hope I can find one as pretty.

That frame is gorgeous! Good way to solve that issue ~ I would have been the same, liking it as a mirror but wanting to do a chalkboard, too. I should actually have something that I can join in with for the first linky party {I'm doing my Procrastinator's project}. I don't do furniture often, but at least I'll be in on the first link up!
I love it! Do you know that I have the same mirror? I didn't know if I wanted to leave it as a mirror or do a chalkboard, that's why I haven't made time for it. Now thanks to you, I can do both!! Thank you, I have added your buttoms to my blog, love them.
Love what you did to that mirror! I've added your linky party button to my blog.

That mirror is very shabby chic! My SIL would love it! In fact, I am going to email her a link.
Thanks for your encouragement in regards to the bathroom. I am loving it. Though, one day I plan on replacing the counter tops, I have made it a bathroom that I can live with for the forseable future.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I love your blog too, I just found it last night & it was one of those things where I sat and read it forever until I finally made myself shut my laptop & go to bed! Thanks for the great furniture inspiration, can't wait to see what else you post!
You have so much talent!
Just to let you know…we all appreciate you!!! Thanks for sharing!
Living it up at Lakewood,
Cindy
What a GREAT idea! Two for the price of one.
Great project…I love the contrast of the white frame and the black chalkboard. I have a similar frame that I was going to paint black…I may have to rethink that.

Great job! I love what you did with this, and I like the fact that you can flip it if you need or want a mirrored look. GENIUS!
I also really like the ornate shape of that frame.
XO,
Sheila 🙂
Love it… I've been waiting a chalkboard – I need to keep my eyes open at garage sales this weekend.
Total genius!
I had a mirror very similar to that one that belonged to my grandmother and someone got rid of it! *sniffle* I guess I will just have to come here and appreciate yours vicariously. 🙂
Quick! someone get me a hankie, I'm drooling all over my self! I. Love. It. And how very clever you are to make is reversible – too stink'n smart!
love it! I so want to make one of those! You are my next craft feature ok?

Must have! This is the absolute perfect idea!! Why didn't I think of this!?!?!? Do you know how many great frames I've passed up thinking, but the mirror is broken, or hazy, or black, or whatever!?!? Ooooooo to have had your ideas before! 🙂 But I got them now, and you bet I'm gonna copy you! 🙂 LOL! Hope you can check out my blog soon, the first of the many interior shots of the house now that I'm having better luck with my camera. The first of the series is up now!
That is one of the prettiest chalkboards I've seen! I would buy it from you. 😉 lol
That looks so pretty. I really want to find a frame that looks like that. No luck yet! It looks amazing. You did a great job.
Dropping by again from Met Monday, and I like this just as much today as I did the first time I saw it. It makes me want to try and find an ornate frame and try this. I need a new blackboard for my kitchen, and I think this is SO clever!
Happy MM…
XO,
Sheila 🙂
Wow, you are not kidding, this mirror frame..chalkboard is incredible. I love it. Love that look too. Good for you for all that you are accomplishing and then being on other blogs…I think that is wonderful. You deserve it!
Blessings,
Debbie
It is beautiful. I love the shape of the frame.

Super nice – love the white and I couldn't part with it either !
Kammy
LOVE IT! I have been on the prowl for one of these to try….no luck yet. I've resorted to chalkboard thrifted silver trays…for now…I think that's a terrific idea to paint the back of the mirror-in case you change your mind (sounds like me)!
Michelle
that frame is just wonderful,,looks great painted white, love it
I love the details on that great mirror/chalkboard. Beautiful makeover. 🙂 Visiting from Kimba's party. 🙂
Yes, IT REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL FRAME! I like the idea of painting the back side so you can still use it as a mirror if you wish.
Beautiful transformation! You did a great job!
Blessings,
Sandra
Wow…so jealous. I was just visiting another blog, and she had also found a gorgeous ornate mirror. How are y'all finding these? I've had my eye out for one for so long. Still nothing.
Yours turned out so nice!!
Love love love the details of that frame – it looks fantastic! Yeah
That looks great! So charming.
Gorgeous!!! I love the fact that you kept the mirror on the other side so that you can change it out, very versatile!!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. I usually use the glass knobs too, some of the wooden knobs that I used were ones that I had saved from an old dresser. It's nice to have another use for them, great for kids rooms.
I love it!!! I still haven't done anything with chalk paint yet!
Rhonda
Darling – I love everything about it!
XOXO

Neat idea. I think I will have to get chalkboard paint and get creative! Thanks for posting !
I love that you can still use this as a mirror. But the chalkboard is fabulicious!!
amazing idea! love it. Great blog by the way. I will be following you.

I found this site using google.com And i want to thank you for your work. You have done really very good site. Great work, great site! Thank you!
Sorry for offtopic
I'm making on of these as we speak! I can't wait to see how it turns out after I'm done with it! 🙂
I had been looking for an ornate mirror for 2 months and finally found one at a local flea market…unfortunately, it cost $16.50 for the mirror (I had found others, but that one was the cheapest)…
I'll post it this coming week! Thanks for the great idea!
