Small Updates

I have a lot of things in the hopper right now, but nothing’s finished, yet.  So, I thought I would give you a “progress report” on where I am and what I’ve been up to.  My white duvet cover set arrived in the mail yesterday and I am so pleased with it.  It makes my bed look like a fluffy cloud that I want to sink into.  You know…the luxurious hotel bed?  That’s what I wanted.  I’m still waiting for my chocolate brown quilt to arrive and I need to get my butt in gear and sew some pillows!
The texture of this duvet is so pretty.  It’s a quilted diamond pattern that is subtle and sophisticated.
After much mulling and thinking and sighing and envisioning and waivering, I decided on Irish Cream over Sea Salt for the color of the walls in my master bedroom.  I am excited about injecting color through fabric, accessories and painted furniture.  The past few years my decor has been about color on the walls with neutral furnishings.  I’m ready for something different!  So, here we go…
I started cutting in with the Irish Cream this afternoon during naps.  I’m hoping to get the painting completed tomorrow night, but we’ll see how that goes.  It looks like it might need two coats…drat…I’m still in denial about that possibilty.
I also am working on matting some of my black and white pictures of my kiddos.  They are currently black and white pics in a black frame with a black mat.  Too much black.  And the group together looks like a big black hole in the wall.
I purchased some mats from Wal-Mart for $2.00 a piece and used my new mat cutter to cut them to fit the frame.

Much better!  You can actually see the pictures, now.  I only have three of them completed and I can’t wait to finish the others.
I also pulled out the carpet cleaner yesterday.  Toddlers are hard on carpets.  Very hard on carpets.  I’ll admit that I use to think people who had spotted carpets were just messy or dirty or they didn’t care.  As I look at my “leopard print” carpet, I realize how wrong I was.
My in-laws bought me this carpet cleaner and I am soooo thankful.  I am very particular about cleanliness, so it is awesome to be able to make all of those spots go away.

Ahhhh….beautiful clean carpet.  Vacuum marks and all.  It’s only January and I’m ready for spring, yard sales, and good painting weather.  I’m going through a little furniture painting withdrawl at the moment.  It’s pretty hard to get good ventilation when it’s 17 degrees outside or there’s 20 inches of snow on your cellar doors.

One last very cool thing…I was featured as one of Alycia from Casa Moxie’s 16 favorite bloggers!  How cool is that!  You need to check out her blog.  She is a stitch.

I also stumbed across another feature at Simply Delightful Designs.  I only recently met Jenny and she is one talented designer.   Thanks for the kind comments, Jenny!

  1. You ROCK! Congrats on the features, but you SO DESERVE them!! The bedroom is going to be awesome! Can't WAIT to see it done!

Cats also are hard on carpets! Seriously….harking up a fur ball? Not pretty….

Have a great day and STAY WARM!!

    Lou Cinda 🙂

  2. Hats off to you ladybug. You deserve the recognition…congrats.

Can't wait to see your completed makeover complete with fabrics and fun.

I couldn't agree more about better painting weather. Here's to happy painting in the new year.

  3. Congratulations on your features! I will have to check out the sites.

You made me exhausted just reading about what you have been up to. I do like your new plan of keeping walls neutral and the color in the accessories. I have always had a bit of colorphobia and just painted my master a light sky blue. Now I am wondering if I made a mistake…I can't change much around so everything is pretty much white or being painted white.

I don't have any carpet but I can tell you that me and my micro fiber dustmop are best friends!! Dogs…okay, and dust!!

    Have a wonderful week! 🙂

    xoxo
    Janie

  4. I'm right there with you on 3 of the things you posted!

    1. I have my white duvet sitting folded, in it's pretty little package still

    2. Neutral walls are it for us this year too (they're a nice spa green now…)

    3. Steam cleaning! I'm pulling up the carpet in all areas except the bedroom because we have 2 dogs, which I gather may be equally, if not more, messy than toddlers! The wood flooring is sitting alone and cold in the garage.

Nice work! You did a lot today 🙂

  5. I just love January getting new projects underway. Love your new duvet cover and i can't wait to see the paint color finished. i'm painted this week too {daughters room}
Have a great week finishing your projects,
    xo,

  6. Lookin' good! I love the duvet cover. Can't wait to see what you do with the furniture in your bedroom, too!

I've always wondered whether to invest in one of those steam cleaners. My kids are also ridiculously hard on our carpet and stains seem to reappear in the same places, even after I clean them with carpet cleaner. What brand do you have?

  7. I have a steam cleaner as well and it is a LIFE SAVER! My daughter had a friend over who puked in the middle of the night on Saturday 🙂 All over the carpet! But it came up like a dream after vigorous scrubbing and Spot Shot + the steam cleaner later. I swear by spot shot though. It saves the day if used right away.

  8. Sorry to agree with you on this one, but I think you will need two coats {unless you do primer}. I have some projects that need painting, too, and I'm trying to figure out what to do. The only one I can really do that I wouldn't have spray painted anyway is my living room coffee table {which I really need to get moving on}. I kind of lost the motivation to get that done when my sofa slipcover got delayed, plus I still have to get my Christmas decor put away. I'm feeling a little cluttered right now.

  9. Oh…And I thought about changing my wall color to "canvas tan" by Behr paint. I'm soooo scared! Maybe I should wait on you so I can see how pretty a neutral can be!

  10. Thanks for the update – I was wondering which color you chose. I love the duvet cover. Isn't such a great feeling to climb into a bed with brand new bedding?

Can't wait to see the progress, please post photos as you go!

  11. too cute. your wreath is much better than mine! i'm envious of the duvet. i'm on the search for one now. ever since i got the new rachel ashwell shabby chic book, i've been hunting for the perfect one!

  12. I cannot wait to see what you do!

I am going back to 'colorless' walls in my house, too. Just took the living room from a pale blue to 'vanilla' this weekend. (Okay, you know Hubs painted it for me) *snicker*

I will be looking to you for inspiration!

    ~Amy

  13. the new mats on the pictures made a huge difference! I too can't wait for Spring, being new at this decorating/ blogging and seeing all of the furniture painting and yard sales blogs are killin' me!! You are coming along rather nicely! I can't wait to see the finished products!

  14. I must have been living under a rock and have just now discovered your blog. I love so many of your projects, but as a musician, I'm in love with your wreath made of rolled sheet music. It is WONDERFUL!!! I'm going to search and see if I can a post about it so I can make one. Love your blog, thanks!

This week started with the loss of power from a storm.  It wasn’t really the storm that knocked out the power, but the wall of wind that came right before the rain.  It took out trees, limbs, power poles, and made a general mess of our yard and pool.  Jeff
