The Fake Out

Last week, we had two wonderfully warm days.  We went out on a walk, played outside and I got in the spring mood.
Then, last night we got about eight inches of snow and it was ten degrees this morning.  Just when I was ready for Spring…fake out!  At least the boys had a good time sledding on our little bunny slope of a “hill.”
Inside, though, it was all spring.  I was working on photo shoots for HGTV.com Easter projects and the June issue of Cottages and Bungalows.
A few bunches of grocery store flowers were arranged and rearranged to work for different shoots.

And I also hit the fruit and vegetable aisle for some glossy granny smiths and over-priced out-of-seaon strawberries.

So, snow outside, spring inside and it’s Christmas in my basement.  That’s right.  I’m working on my last project for HGTV.com for Christmas 2011…a built-from-scratch stocking hanger.  This project had me stumped for a while, but I finally figured out a design that worked.
Not only are the seasons out of whack, but my house is too.  All of this work and an entire day sick in bed (Sunday) has taken it’s toll.  Yeah, it’s that kind of week!  Just don’t show up on my doorstep unannounced and we’ll be cool.

  1. Can you believe this weather? I so thought we were cruising into warm weather AND TODAY I'M CLEANING SNOW OFF OF MY CAR. Looks like your working on pretty projects. How confusing is it to be doing Easter and Christmas at the same time? The stocking hanger has me intrigued. Glad your better, take care of yourself.

  2. Thank you for all your wonderful blogs. You are an inspiration. I've learned so much, not just about 'how to blog' but how to look at something old and see it as something that can be changed into a new use; furniture, fabric, decorations, china .. it goes on. Its snowing and the sun is shining today.

  3. No matter what season …you make it all look so effortless. THAT is the real 'fake out'! I know it takes major work to pull off all your great ideas. Enjoyed the eye candy once again. Lori L

  4. We had the same thing happen here in Idaho. Last week we raked the yard and got all the missed fall leaves today we have 8 inches of fresh snow. I bought tulips yesterday to brighten my view and posted about it just today. What a difference a few flowers can add to your mood.
Hoping for that early spring in your neck of the woods too!

  5. I hate the fake-out! Even though I *know* we get it every year, I still get that little hope inside of me that MAYBE the warm weather will actually stick around and winter will end early. For once. Still waiting…

  6. My sunny Cali weather was cold and rainy last week and although it sunny again, 50 (for us) isnt outside weather! I want it to be spring!!!

  7. It's weird weather here in California too. First we have two weeks of spring in January, now lots of cold windy rain! How cool you have snow! Hope you feel better….!

  8. Le printemps nous joue de drôles de farces parfois… Et madame hiver ne lui fait pas de cadeau!
    Bisous.

The spring we played some funny jokes sometimes … And Ms. Winter did not make him a gift!

  9. We are looking forward to the March winds here in Minneapolis, a forerunner of spring! Thanks for the reminders of spring in your lovely (as always!) photos. Don't we all just live vicariously through you and your dream job?!

  10. Know just how you feel! We got a whole 5 days of 60's and even two days of that we hit the mid 70's! It was paradise! I got some spray painting done, and just enjoyed being outside. They yesterday we were back to the 30's and teens at night. It happens like this every year, we kicked in the pants by winter, but at least we know it is almost over!!

  11. We have had a few fake outs our selves. It just snowed a foot on Sunday. I can't wait for spring and these pictures gave me serious SPRING FEVER! I;m going to go get me some yummy strawberries. beautiful pictures as always.

  12. I can just smell those carnations! No snow here, but this week there's a lot of rain. Still a few sunny days, but that storm out west is headed our way, I'm sure.

  13. Today the repairman came to fix the dryer. It is about a year old and was not drying correctly. He went out into four feet of snow to check the dryer vent. After about ten minutes he came in with a wastebasket full of straw and feathers. He said that a bird built a nest in the vent. I started to paw through the mess, trying to get an intact birds nest ala Miss Mustard Seed. My daughter stopped me. I think she was embarrassed. See what an influence you have on us, Marian? Ann
