Want to shop with me in Raleigh?

My husband’s family lives in Raleigh, NC, so we usually head down that way for Thanksgiving and we will continue that tradition this year.  A couple of years ago, I asked if anyone wanted to meet me for some shopping at the Raleigh Flea Market as well as some local antique shops and to grab some lunch together. We had a wonderful group of ladies show up and we had a blast!

Isn’t it a riot to see how much hair changes?  I’ve always been afraid of getting stuck in a hairdo and I think I’m overcompensating!

Anyway, we met at the flea market and milled around together.  Some were there to shop and others were just enjoying getting to know other gals in the area who loved antiques and blogs and fixing up old farmhouses.  It was neat for me to see the connections made.

We then headed for lunch and shopping at SuzAnna’s.  It was so much fun and I would love to do it again.

Soooo…if you’re in Raleigh, NC on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 30, I would love for you to join me.  You can come when you can and leave when you need to and it will just be a fun time with the girls.  If you can make it, send me an e-mail at marian@missmustardseed.com and I’ll give you the details!

  1. Such a great idea. If there is a similar event in all our areas we should put out the same invitation and meet one another. I missed the Chapel Market because of family conflicts and I was disappointed. I hope there will be another Chapel Market next year and I can attend. I also missed the Country Living event in Atlanta. But I can wish for another opportunity.

  2. I’ve spent the last 10 years here in town for Thanksgiving. This year I’m going to California. Man, hate to miss out! I would love to dig with you at the flea market. I’ve been going for 30 years and still can’t figure it all out.

  3. Dang! We haven’t left town for Thanksgiving in several years and of course THIS is the year we are heading to Illinois. So sorry to miss out on this. Hopefully you will do it again next year.

  4. What a great idea. I love girls day outings. I’ll be in Pa while your in NC. Maybe you could plan a shopping trip at home sometime. That would be fun.

  5. I would love if you did something in Pennsylvania! I am in Lancaster, and would love to join you for an afternoon, perhaps in Gettysburg, or somewhere in between…

  6. Awwww! That’s such a great idea! Wish I could meet with ya’ll. I have a sister in Raleigh but alas I just made a trip there. Maybe I’ll join in the fun next year. Oh and I agree with the other ladies above-Do have a showing or get together here in PA! I’m in Pittsburgh. I’m sure you have some Mustard Seed groupies here;-) Come on over to the other side of the state for a visit!

  7. Oh man, I am so bummed I cannot make it! I am taking my mom to Tybee Island(haunt of MKA, whom you may have met at Chapel Market) for a girls getaway while my hubby takes our kiddos camping. I would love to do this next year though! You should consider a meetup in PA since my in-laws live in York…….We usually visit during Christmas break or spring break. 🙂

  8. Dang! I will be flying back to Nevada from Virgina on the 30th…had I known I would have made some travel adjustments!! I love to go to Raleigh and shop at Ornamenta.
Maybe sometime you will head out to Nevada…Boulder City??? We can head to Arizona..I just found some great little out of the way towns with wonderful finds!! It would be fun!

  9. Hooray! I’m in High Point, NC so I’ll definitely join y’all. I need SOMETHING to keep me away from the leftovers. 🙂 I can’t wait to meet some kindred spirits!

  10. I live in Raleigh……you will have a great time at the flea market…it has been packed with vendors since the fair left…..Suzanna’s is also a great place to shop….so is Thieves Market Mall on Maitland Drive just off Highway 64 heading toward Knightdale…..I have a booth there and love all your ideas…..hope you will stop in and I hope to see you at the flea…..

  11. We will be celebrating in NC at my in laws as well. I would love to join you but we have a family reunion in our old school house that day. We usually only open the school house to the public a few times a year, but we have been inspired by you Marian and so this year we are having a Vintage Holiday Market in the school on Dec. 6&7, with vintage finds and fresh greenery wreaths and arrangements for sale, decorating for Christmas demos and a hands on wreath workshop on Saturday afternoon. We are only about an hour and a half from Raleigh or Willmington and would love for any local MMS fans to come visit us.

Thanks Marian for always encouraging and inspiring us, I just ordered my first paints and can hardly wait for them to arrive so I can get working on some projects.

  12. Hi Mirian,

I met you out at Vintage Village two years ago when I had a shop out in front of SuzAnna’s. We have since moved to another location on Six Forks Rd and have opened Twelve Forks Junction. We would love for you and your entourage to stop by if you have time – we’re about 3-4 miles from SuzAnna’s (we couldn’t get too far away!!).

We’ll be open 10am – 5pm on Saturday, Nov 30 – hope to see you!

  13. Hi Girls! Anyone living in the Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Southern Pines area – let’s go!

  14. Yes, I want to shop with you…but I can’t, I’m in NY.
Anyhoo…I have a question totally unrelated to this post: My son decided to rearrange his bedroom over the weekend. He tried to push an antique dresser across his carpeted floor and one of the front legs broke off. It’s not a “clean” break – kind of jagged. I love the dresser – nice deep drawers, beautiful wood etc. I don’t want to get rid of it, but I don’t know if it can be repaired. Have you ever had to repair a leg? Any suggestions? Tips? My hubby is not handy – I have visions of a hunk of 2 x 4 propping up the dresser – ughhh. Thanks!

    1. Titebond wood glue, clamps (or anything to hold it tight) . wipe off any oozing glue with wet towel. Let it dry. should be good as new.

  15. I would LOVE to join you! I live just outside Raleigh in Clayton, NC. I have just (literally, as in, today) opened up a little shop called Bushel and a Peck Goods in downtown Clayton. I’ve been shopping the Raleigh Flea Market since I was a kid and actually went to school with Jenny from Suzanna’s. What a small world 🙂

  16. Sooooo, is South Carolina close to western Nebraska? Wish I could go. Darn this rural life. If the farm sales weren’t such a treasure trove,I might like to move back east!

  17. I’m thrilled — I bought some milk paint at Suzanna’s this past summer and they suggested I check out the on-line tutorials for using it. Love it! Can’t wait to meet you.

  18. Oh I am so bummed! I wish I could join you all again…it was so much fun! I already have plans that day. 🙁 maybe next time!! By the way, I love your new blog picture…so beautiful!!!!!

  19. Dang it…have friends in that area, but I will be in Charleston, SC over Thanksgiving…Now, Charleston is a city with some awesome antique stores and fun little boutiques and fantastic restaurants…sorry…got off topic…have a great time and maybe next year. 🙂

  20. Wish it was this weekend, going to be in North Carolina this weekend. I’m a mmsmp retailer, down from Canada. Took the retailer training course in October with jennylynn. Was excited to go to lucketts store today, but disappointed that they don’t have any milk paint there. Quite the place. Do you have a spot there still? Hoping to visit other retailers tomorrow that sell the paints. Monday is a bad day as so many close. And highway 15 is crazy for cars.

  21. Darn! Wish I could ditch my family for a couple hours during this holiday & be on the hunt for some Ironstone with you! However, CO TO NC is a bit far, just a little bit! Lol. I will get u to meet me for some hunting , antiquing, junking next time you are out here in Glorious Colorado!!!!

  22. I wish you would come back out to Cari’s shop in Chambersburg! I know there would be a lot of great folks would love to see you. (And Cari is making magic at her shop!)

  23. Marion,
I’d love to! I’m suppose to work an estate sale that day, but I would love to meet you in person! I shop the flea market regularly. My system is yard sale section first, then hit the “upcylers”, next up the outside dealers, then my favorite inside booths.
Sometime I’d love to have you at my house for some advice on painting my Grandfather’s wardrobe & Nana’s old chest. I’m an “original finish” lover, but these really need a face lift.
You can read my “about” page on my Etsy site http://www.etsy.com/shop/aTreasureInStore since I don’t have a blog. I’ve been reading your blog since you were just a baby blogger!
I hope it works out that we can meet up!
    Mimi

  24. Tried to send you an email about the get-together at the flea market and it came back to me…..I used the email address you provided…..can you let me know how to meet up with you on that day?

  26. I will be visiting my son’s in Raleigh (nearer to Wake Forest) at Christmas. Would love others to post address’ of these great shops (SuzAnna’s, Thieves Market, Cari’s?) so I can find on my Garman when I am thriftin’. Love your ideas.

  27. I’ll be there! I’ve sent you an email, but haven’t heard back, but you are on my calendar. Just let me know where and what time to meet! Looking forward!!!
