We’re paying a little visit back to the kitchen again in this post! We are still working on little finishing touches and I am sure we always will be. I don’t ever call a room done, but done for now. There should always be some wiggle room for more change. Today, I am sharing about the new light in the kitchen eating area. As a full disclosure, this light fixture was a part of a partnership with Lamps Plus. I’ve worked with them before on lights for the exterior of the house as well as for the hallway, and they had a great fixture for the kitchen eating area. There are giveaway details at the bottom of the post, so don’t miss that!
Initially, I wasn’t planning on putting a new light over the eating area. We opted for recessed lights to give an all-over wash. I left open the option that we might add lights over the island and/or eating area down the road if we felt like we needed it, but it was one of the decisions I didn’t feel like I needed to make during the initial renovation.
But, when the electricians were working on the wiring and installation, they informed me that the box in the wall needed to stay accessible. It was a meeting point for several other fixtures and outlets, so it would either need a fixture or a removable cover. We started with the removable cover while I thought about it. I have digitally removed it from most of the photos I’ve shared of this space, but you can see it in the photo below just to the right of the pine hutch.
Since my option was a plastic cover or a light fixture, I decided a light fixture was a better option. It would define the eating area a bit more, add some task lighting, and would provide an opportunity to inject some pattern, color, and softness. It is for that reason that I envisioned a drum shade. I wanted to add some of my own fabric to it to bring those elements into this corner that is mostly neutral.
I selected the Possini Euro Pendant Light with a White Shade. The light has a warm gold chandelier, which I liked. It wasn’t just a bare bulb under a drum shade. My dad came over one afternoon to help me with installing it. The wire was long enough to swag over to the electrical box, but the chain wasn’t quite long enough. We added some extra chain from my “chandelier parts box” to make it reach. Since we had mismatched chains, I also made a chain slipcover for it out of antique linen.
If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know my dad is the champion of projects that involve tinkering. He’s great at doorknobs, light fixtures, faucets, and fixing things that are wiggly, stuck, loose, etc. So, he fiddled and tinkered while mom and I worked on other things.
Here is how the light fixture looked with the chain cover and the white drum shade. I knew I wanted to make a slipcover for the shade, but I wanted to live with it like this for a while.
Finally, when we had the sewing machines out for other sewing projects, I took a morning and made a slipcover out of some vintage checked fabric. I didn’t make a tutorial because I was sort of figuring out as I went, but I essentially hemmed the fabric along the top and bottom and made a box pleat that would fit the perimeter of the shade. I honestly wasn’t sure if it would even work and, when I first fitted it on and stepped back, I was completely unsure of it.
But, I have learned that I need to live with changes for a while. I really loved the color, pattern, and softness it added to this little corner and it definitely looked European. It reminded me of the vintage fabric shades I’d see hanging over tables in Germany as a kid. In fact, I had a couple of them in miniature in my dollhouse! So, there was something about this that felt homey and familiar. When my mom came over and noticed it, the first thing she said was that it looked very European.
So, I lived with it for a few days and, the more I lived with it, the more I liked it. I feel like it will be a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it with my online audience, but that’s okay. For me, I think it’s unique and fun. It’s sort of like a cute little checkered skirt for the light fixture. And, the nice part is that it’s removable. I can always make different slipcovers or just go with the plain white shade. I had just enough of the vintage checked fabric left to make a tablecloth for the small antique pine table. I haven’t hemmed it yet, but it will be perfect for when I want to dress up the table.
(As a note, this area is so hard to photograph! The light bounces off the range and the floor and creates cray shadows!)
Here is a peek at how it looks underneath…
And here is the eating area looking from the living room…
I have this same fabric on a chair just outside of the doorway and I think the pleated shade makes even more sense when seen with that and the cuckoo clock.
Lamps Plus offers an extensive collection of light fixtures, shades, and other products for the home and they are the first site I visit when I’m looking for anything lighting-related. They are also having one of their biggest sales of the year now through September 25, 2023. And, as a little something special for my readers, Lamps Plus is offering a $250 Lamps Plus Shopping Spree to one winner.
The giveaway is open to residents of the lower 48 US states and those aged 18 or over. Just take a look at Lamps Plus and leave a comment here on this blog post letting me know what you would be interested in ordering if you won. (You can obviously change your mind!) Comments are eligible to win through Friday, September 15, 2023, at midnight PST. A winner will be randomly selected and contacted on Monday, September 18.
I love the lamp in your kitchen. It really evokes a feeling of family and home; bread cooling on the table, kids working on homework, cats napping on chairs, all in the bask of the warm light. We are in process of renovating a home built in the late 60’s and I enjoy seeing your updates. Next on our list is the hall bathroom. The foundation is good, it just needs to be brought into the 20th century, starting with a proper light. I want a light above the mirror, but the room is large enough that I am also considering a chandelier to really add to the character of the space.
How cosy!
I am interested in the Rolland Antique Brass and Gold table lamps. So elegant and yet homey!
I love the Kathy Ireland Venizia chandelier, wou l d go great in my dining room.
Such a charming addition to the kitchen eating area! It’s a really nice fixture with its original white shade, and then the slipcover customizes it beautifully.
I love the light fixtures you have selected. Very unique and beautiful. Changing a light fixture is such an easy project with such a big impact and can really change the feel of a room. We hope to remodel our master bath in the near future and will be swapping out the light fixture to make it personalized to our style.
For me it would be the linen plug in 16 drum pendant. I have a small house and I need a swag type light over the corner of my sofa. Great job on covering your shade.
Hi Marian, love the pleated shade you made! The gingham fabric does look very European, but I agree with others that with the tablecloth its just too much pattern (at least for me). You do what you love! If I won the giveaway, I’d like to possibly add two Possini Euro Asni 11″ Wide Antique Gold and Glass Modern Mini Pendants above our island, I love the modern vintage look to them. Thanks for the opportunity!
I would try out the Schoolhouse soft gold 12 inch light fixture for our hallway. Thanks for the opportunity to win. I love following your house remodeling posts.
If I won I would want the Jamie Young Shoreline 22″W Natural Sea Grass Pendant Light for my sister’s new house! Would she ever love me?!!!😜
I would love one of their crystal chandeliers for my powder bath. Your kitchen is looking great, Marian.
I would be interested in the Stiffel Melvin brass 12 light, gorgeous!
I would love the Jolie Five Light chandelier.
I would purchase a chandelier for our foyer. The Possini Euro Demy 23″ Wide Oil-Rubbed Bronze 5-Light Ring Chandelier would be a contender. Thanks for the opportunity & sharing your home updates.
I would pick the Ibeza 15 1/2″ Wide Crystal Mocha Flushmount Ceiling Light for my bedroom! So pretty!
Dark Bronze Adjustable Pole Pharmacy Metal Table Lamp would be PERFECT for my desk. Lamps are jewelry for a room. So excited to see all of your spaces as you get them “done”.
I’ve been mulling over the Alese Neutral Earth Finish Table Lamp for the past six months. Wouldn’t it be exciting to win it?! Thank you, Marian. P.S. It was fun to see you up close and personal at the Lucketts Market in May.
Great job with the cute checked lamp slipcover! I love personal, handmade touches like that in a home. It has been fun to follow along your renovation journey!
I am building a new home and it’s almost time to pick the light fixtures! Aaack! Thanks for the tip about the current sale online. I’d love to win the giveaway and buy a pendant light to hang above my dining table. The Possini Euro Deci light is cute!
The lamp shade is unique and fun! Kudos for you stepping outside the box and trying something new and different.
Thanks for the chance, an updated ceiling fan would be nice. 52″ Minka Aire Simple Soft Brass Wet Ceiling Fan is so pretty.
I am in love with the Possini Euro Janae hanging light from Lamps plus!
Bev Miller
I love the pleated lampshade, but I noticed the shade seems to be unlevel for some reason and I think it’s making the pleats hang in a wonky fashion (not straight up and down). Also, just personal preference, I guess, but I think a matching table cloth in that same fabric is too much of that fabric in one place. (Just curious, could Lamps Plus have provided more of that brass chain?)
I think that’s a charming treatment for your drumshade light! On the Lamps Plus website, a pretty wildflowers giclee ceiling light caught my eye. It would be a very pretty replacement for the bland MCM ceiling light in my bedroom.
I like the 360 Lighting Cora Black Finish Modern Arc Floor Lamp; modern and with a slim profile!
Marian, that “checkered skirt” lampshade is so cute! Very clever and unique. I keep looking at the Lamps Plus site every few months to see if something that I like and will go in our home is on sale, so I am familiar with Lamps Plus. Alas, I am too practical to order some of the “eye candy” they carry, even if the price was right. So, if I won this $250 Shopping Spree, I would probably get the Kichler Niles 24″ Antique Pewter 3-light Bath Light and two of the matching single-light sconces for our small bathroom re-do. Thanks for the excuse to look at their website again! Enjoying all of your 1970’s house reno posts.
For some reason, my comment wasn’t posted, so second try:
1st, I think that “skirt” lampshade is so cute and unique!
2nd, if I won the Shopping Spree, I’d probably get the Kichler Niles 24″ Antique Pewter 3-light Bath Light and 2 matching single-light sconces.
Thank you for this giveaway!
Love the checkered ruffle on the shade! If I win, I need to update my outdoor lights which are very ’90s! I would pick the Possini Ackerly 14″ outdoor lanterns. It was hard to choose from so many neat options.
I love the checked fabric! My favorite lamp is the “Tall Lily Ginger Jar”. What a great giveaway!!
I like the lamp shade, it’s very cute, however I’m not crazy about the shade with the tablecloth. It feels too much, maybe I need to live with it for a while. I think I’d like it better without the tablecloth. I’d also consider a plain burlap linen shade with that tablecloth. The burlap would pick up on the warm wood tones and the rug. I’ve ordered several lights from Lamp Plus and I’m always happy with them. If I won the giveaway I’d get the Possini Euro Holden Oil-Rubbed Bronze Boom Arm Floor Lamp. Love the way the house is coming together, oh, and the lamp shade is sitting wonky.
I would love to get the Ferris Pharmacy Floor Lamp. Your home is looking so cozy with all of your improvements and I’m enjoying seeing what you do so much!
The lamp slipcover is sweet. I like how you made it look like the shade is wearing a little skirt and still have the flexibility to switch it up.
I would love the adjustable pole pharmacy metal floor lamp. Thank you for the opportunity to win! I love the progress you are making on your home. You have such an incredible eye for design.
We are redoing our bathroom so I need new vanity lights! I like the Albi in vintage bronze.
We’d go with the Minka Lavery Harbour Point 19″ Wide Liberty Gold Ceiling Light!
I’m currently shopping for outdoor lights. (Hope I win!) I am leaning towards the Eastcrest 14″ High Textured Black Finish Steel Outdoor Wall Light.
We could use a new fixture in our foyer (nearly 100 yo apartment building in brooklyn!). Thinking maybe the bubble chandelier?! Thanks for the opportunity.
Lover of the slipcover!🙋♀️
We are building a new home, so we need all of the fixtures!! It would depend on what jumped out at me! If you love it you’ll find a place for it!! Right?? 😆
I’m thinking the Rowland antique brass and glass table lamp. I do love what you did with covering yours. It just adds that personal touch.
I love the lamp shade cover and that way you can change it out if you chose. Reminds me of the stool seat cover you made several years ago and I purchased one in the blue and white. I would purchase a pair of the Statton Street black outdoor lanterns if I was the lucky winner.
Goodness I would love the Marlowe bronze woven metal floor lamp! So gorgeous! Thanks for the chance to win. Love your blog!
Your kitchen fixture definitely gives a German/Austrian vibe!
I like the Bransford 17″ black brass outdoor wall light. It would look great on our c 1890 house!
Oh, I was just looking at plain old Home Depot ceiling fans; it’s much more fun to look at Lamps Plus. I really like the style Casa Arcade brushed nickel fan & light; thanks for the giveaway chance! (Also I laughed at myself since when I first saw the pic of your dad, I thought Wow that’s a really chunky gold necklace chain he’s wearing.)
I would get the Hinkley Foundry 20 1/2″ High Textured Black Outdoor Sign Light for above my drop zone/dog crate area.
I’m moving to a house built in 1960 that could use all kinds of new light fixtures… I like the Mitzi Gillian wall sconce in particular as I love colorful fixtures wherever possible…! thanks for the giveaway!
Is it the photo–the table and chairs seem very tight against hutch and shelves. love the island and stove!
I LOVE the Possini Euro!
Loving all the updates you’re doing…I’m especially drawn to the “finishing touches” you show; even if you’re never quite finished!
If I was fortunate to win this drawing I’d select the Mallot glass bowl pendant light for my dining room! Thank you!
I love the Rayna Downbridge floor lamp, so maybe that. I think even if your style sometimes walks the line of what people might like, the love and care you put into your home design shows, and always makes even things I would look askance at turn out amazing!
That is such a compelling & lovely shot from the living room through the door into the kitchen! The blue checked fabric & green of your cabinets are just wonderful together & look cozy, comfy & chic all at the same time! Or if you are more in the mood for a little more traditional, sophisticated look you can remove the lampshade cover you crafted! I am needing a floor lamp in our den area & several Possini Euro brand lamps caught my eye, particularly the Summit black shade tall Light Blaster floor lamp and the Magnum French bronze task LED floor lamp. Thanks for the great giveaway opportunity!
LOVE your new light and the shade cover is stinking cute!
UGH-It’s hard to decide what I would want from Lamps Plus-they have beautiful options!
It’s hard to narrow it down to just one, that being said…I would first wish for: Cambridge 18″ High Burnished Brass 2-Light Wall Sconce
My house is starting to look more cohesive because of this blog. Just having a color pallet when shopping makes all the difference. I love the shade you made but I loathe sewing. I only do it if it has to be done lol, it may have to be done! For the drawing, I’d choose the Braidy wall sconces.
So clever to make a “slipcover” for the dining area light! Perfect for your space and style. I might choose the same fixture for our dining area, but do like what I have. Am in need of a ceiling fan, though, and think the 60″ WAC Viper Soft Brass with added 48″ down rod would be ideal. I would need two, though. Good luck to all!
Beautiful!! I love the euro look! Fabrics bring such life and warmth to a home.
I’ve had this fixture on my wishlist for a while. Maxim Paloma 26″ Wide 5-Light Traditional Candelabra Gold Chandelier.
I actually considered the exact one that you chose, but decided that I wanted a bit of glimmer in my dining room and the gold on this one will be perfect!
Loving the European vibe of your lampshade slip- it really cozies up thar corner of your kitchen. Lots to choose from on Lamps Plus – was drawn to their great selection of shades – something I am always needing when I pick up second hand lamps.
We need a new foyer light and we have standard 8’ ceilings. I’m interested in the Possini Euro Casa Star Light, I think the same one you put in your hallway. Thank you for sharing your home and for the chance to win!
Do you have a special way of transforming room multiple times. I am amazed at the talent and the vision that you have when you create some thing new in your rooms or for your rooms the lampshade is beautiful and I can say that I love the white linen shade better, because it makes the room light and airy. However, the pleaded shade cover that you designed absolutely beautiful, I just think that it is a little too heavy with the table cover. But I don’t have the vision nor talent like you have.
You have created a beautiful home, and even though things aren’t done yet, like you said, when you walk into a room that is nearly completed, it’s just simply welcoming, comforting and cozy.
We all envy your gifts and talents at how quickly you transform a beautiful space within your walls of your home
If I win, and I never seem to ever win anything. I would choose the Passini, euro, Thomas kitchen, island, pendant, or the Angelo 46 inch wide, weathered, oak, kitchen island, light chandelier, or possibly the Franklin ironworks chandelier.
But I would want you to come over and give me your best opinion for the room, where I would put my beautiful object 🙂
Your creativity is inspiring! And thanks for running the giveaway. I was going to say I needed a floor lamp but then I fell in love with the look of the Swell Ava pendant chandelier. I could use both honestly. Thanks!
I love your slipcover for your light! It makes the room so cozy! I have been wanting a fandelier for our bedroom, so I would probably pick the 25″ Kichler Cavelli Bronze LED Fandelier Ceiling Fan with Wall Control. Thanks for the giveaway!
If I won, I’d be interested in some new pleated lamp shades. I think you did a great job making the drum light cover, too!
I would choose the Regency Hill Schoolhouse Floating 12″ Wide Bronze Opaque Ceiling Light to replace our 24 year old foyer light!
We’re slowly replacing all the lights on our builder grade home. And the Lexington lantern would look great on our pond front property. Rustic yet still classy.
I would order two of the mini-kitchen pendants that are on clearance. We currently have one corded bulb from IKEA as a placeholder above our kitchen island.
Thank you for hosting the giveaway and your fun ideas!
The possini euro Farina is my favorite. I love what you did to the shade
If I won, I would totally copy you. I’d love your chandelier above my office work table! Great job on the darling shade!
That’s a super sweet dining set up you’ve created! Very appealing!
So many lamps I could use from Lamps Plus ….I really like the Franklin Iron Works Plymouth Bronze Mica Shade Torchiere Floor Lamp.
Love the give away. I would definitely order the Charleston 13 1/2″ Clear Glass and Black LED Pendant Light. Fun for a new house we are building.
I Love It!
I fell in love with the Possini Euro Julian 22″ Wide Rustic Bronze Metal Drum Pendant Light
Yes please! I’ve had their web page open trying to make a decision, thanks to your partnership in the past, and this reminded me!
I really like the Leila. I’m trying to decide if clear glass is the way to go.
I love the pleated lampshade! It may be my favorite thing about that area of the kitchen!
I have purchased from Lamps Plus before and was very satisifed w both the service and product quality.
My guest bath would look so cute with the Quoizel Trafalgar 8 1/4″H Matte Black 2-Light Wall Sconce:-)
I had no idea that Lamps Plus offered furniture. I would love a leather couch. A shopping spree would be such fun!
Thanks for offering the give away.
I’d like the Madrid 30″ Ford Brown Faux Leather Swivel Bar Stool.
I would love the Abigale wall sconces for my hall . I love the pleated lamp shade cover!!
I love how you personalized your kitchen light! It looks perfect in the room. Just the right finishing touch❤️
We’re moving next spring and I’m already looking and dreaming about our next and hopefully our forever home. I never love the existing outdoor coach lights so I saved a screen shot of your Stratton ones when you shared them. Without a doubt they would be my choice. I just love the style and love that they come in different sizes. The finishing touches on a home are what really bring it to life and light fixtures are like the jewelry of the home.
I would love the Possini Rochelle. I love Lamps Plus and all you’ve done to your home! Love your talent.
Possini Euro Danvers 22 1/2″W Brushed Nickel 3-Light Bath Light
This would be my choice if I won the gift card
I love the checkered shade you made! I’m actually looking for a new light fixture for my living room and would pick the Stiffel Hartley Warm Antique Gold 9 light ring chandelier.
Oh man…I would be interested in the Possini Euro Julian 22″wide rustic bronze metal pendant light! I love the slipcover you made for your chandelier….you have amazing vision!
I love how it turned out Marian! It does add a real softening touch that I like. Also, at first glance I thought your dad was wearing a big, funky chain….hahahaha! Then of course I realized it was the chain for the light fixture!
There are a number of lamps and fixtures I love, it’s hard to choose just one!!
I almost feel like Big Brother is listening LOL My daughter is renovating her house and called and asked if I would look for some bathroom fixtures for the 4 bathrooms and help her find something cool. And then I get this post!!! I took some screen shots of the Possini Euro Wrapped Wire fixtures because I think they are right up her alley! Those would be my choice for sure! LOVE the pop of color you added to your fixture!
So many beautiful things! I do love the Stiffle Hartley 6 light ring chandelier. It would look great in my dining room!
I love the cover you made, I am wanting to make something similar for a lamp I purchased at a garage sale this summer, I am pretty sure I can figure out how you made it, but it would love it if you shared a tutorial! I love Lamps Plus , and plan on changing out some of our lights. If I was to win I would surely be able to put it to good use!
I would purchase a Stiffel swing arm floor lamp. Love what you have done with your new home.
I’d probably go for the Possini Euro Milne 14″ Wide Bronze and Brass Ceiling Light, but there are SO many lights I’d love to add to our home!
Love the covered shade!!! It is so you!
our family room ceiling fan and lights are very dated and i would love to replace it. So that’s how I would spend the money if I was lucky enough to win. Love, love, love your lampshade slipcover.
I need a pendant for over our kitchen island. I love the look of the
Possini Euro Verndale 11 1/2″ Brushed Nickel Industrial Mini Pendant.
I love that the pleats ar loose at the bottom. I love it and I love the tablecloth with it. I also like that you covered the cord. I just went through a bit of that, but had the same chain that matched.
I would choose Possine Euro. I had to change things up this year,, it it is perfect.
Thank you for the opportunity.
I’d love to have the Ibeza 15 1/2 inch flushmount ceiling light for our foyer. I hate our current light so much. It looks like a boob hanging down!
I’m a retired interior designer and love the slipcover! I think it makes the space so warm, expresses your personality and does have a very European feel. Don’t worry about what your online audience says! Go with your instincts…they’re very good. How did you attach the slipcover to the shade?
I don’t need a fixture, but it’s a very nice thing to do for your readers. 🙂
I knew it wouldn’t be for everyone and that’s okay. I think it’s rare that even one person would like everything in my house and, I remind myself, I probably wouldn’t like everything in their house! And that’s what makes our homes uniquely ours. 💙
As far as attaching the skirt to the shade, I used small tabs of fabric that are pinned onto the spokes of the shade. It’s just a temporary solution until I make some little ties. I was sort of testing it out to make sure I liked it!
Lovely! Lovely! I have about 300 simultaneous projects going on — Inclucuding, finding lighting for the dining room and living room. Looking for something large and unusual for this large second floor balcony ceiling that currently has a dead lightbulb where something amazing should be. I’m slowly removing some of the farm fixtures in our farm house, and adding some modern touches. The funky gold chandeliers from Lamps Plus may be just what we need. I just replaced some candle sconces with their brass articulated lamps and they’re perfect. Love your stories — and those geraniums!
I’ve been in desperate need for additional lighting in my kitchen. A couple of those nice LED under cabinet lights would be great to win!
p.s. Your parents just make me smile. They are the best!
I love Stiffel Hartley 28″ Wide Warm Antique Gold 6-Light Ring Chandelier – classic! I can see it in the room we use as an office over the desk! Perfect.
Marian I loved the lamp shade cover. How is it attached at the top?
I would purchase the Bransford 21″high Black-Speckeled Gray Outdoor Wall Light lantern. Have needed to replace the light by my front door and this could be the perfect opportunity.
If I won I’d have to go with either pendant lights for my hall, or one of those fabulous wooden fans. Actually, I’d probably by both as I can use both, and their lights are really beautiful.
So many pretty lights! My favorite is the Ferris 15″ Wide Oyster 3-Light Ceiling Light. It would make any space feel special.
I need a floor lamp and
like the Possini black floor lamp.
Your shade is beautiful, and enhances the other homey elements.
Love the Tamryn side table. Thanks for the giveaway.
The Evan Gold Lux Table Lamps would be perfect to add an updated touch to our traditional primary bedroom. A touch of glamour with the interesting rectangular shade would be beautiful! Love your blog and your beautiful home and your artwork too. Thanks!
I would love to buy the Possini Euro Raymond Brushed Nickel Adjustable Boom Arc Floor Lamp for a corner where we have 2 recliners.
Your kitchen is coming along & it looks great.
I love the Possini Arc floor lamps…and I would choose one of those for out den to provide light over a game table.
I love how your light fixture turned out! I’m always amazed how you transform with fabric!❤️ I am looking at the Mitzi Reese 10″ Wide Aged Brass and White Glass Modern Mini Pendant for my entryway. As always, thank you for sharing your beautiful home and process of decorating/transforming!
Sorry to say that although I like the drum shade fixture, I am not a fan of the “skirt” or of a swagging chain. It seems too busy in an already busy area of your lovely new kitchen.
I think this is the first ever time I didn’t like something in any of your homes!
That being said, I would order a pair of Crystorama Lloyd 131/2” aged brass wall sconces.
Possibility Crystal Cube—so many beautiful fixtures!
I want to get a Tiffany style chandelier for over my dining table. They have a beautiful selection! Wish me luck!
What fun to window shop at Lamps Plus! I can see the Regency Hill Rustic Table Lamps as a perfect addition to our bedroom. Thank you for the encouragement and practical ideas you share in every message!
I would love new lampshades or maybe a chinoiserie lamp.
I would choose the Marinec 42″ Wide Black 8-Light Round Chandelier from Lamps Plus. It’s time to update my nook light fixture.
First, I’m sorry but usually I love most of your stuff but that lamp cover does not look right in your kitchen. The print clashes with your table cloth and is too busy looking with your background shelves. It also looks crooked from that side view. The plain shade looks so much better in the kitchen.
Could use 2 pendants & the Possini Eura Asn pendants would look great!
I love the pleated shade. It’s a wonderful homey touch. I like the wood of
your table so I would probably go with a runner or placemats with your
fabric instead of a tablecloth. I think I’d choose one of the beautiful
outdoor wall mount lights from Lamps Plus!
If I won I’d order a new lamp shade for a lamp base that I have. I’ve been looking for a shade of the same dimensions of the broken one that’s on the base now.
I love your pleated lamp shade cover and I think it is a charming touch!
Lamps Plus has so many wonderful options to choose from. I love the Ingalls Schoolhouse Vintage Milk Glass shade, in the wide size. I love most everything vintage and the added bonus is how easy this would be to keep clean. Thank you for this fun opportunity.
Not sure my comment went through, as I don’t see it. Oh well! I love the Swell Ava pendant chandelier! Thanks! Love your creativity.
You are so creative!
If I should be the lucky winner of the shopping spree, I’d choose the Versailles Giclee ceiling light. I’ve been wanting to replace the light in our foyer for a long time.
I love your checked lampshade. Definitely reminds me of Bavaria. I looked through the Lamps Plus chandeliers and fell in love with the Wallingwood and all its beautiful crystals. My birthday is September 18. 😘
Love the lampshade slip!
If I won I would get Izuell 30 inch 6 light chandelier for a much needed update in my dining room.
I recovered 2 bedroom lamp shades with gold toile fabric, using your wonderful tutorial! (Burnt fingertips from the glue gun) 😂
Thanks for all the inspiration!
I would purchase 2 Stiffel Wright French Gold table lamps for my bedroom. I love your kitchen and do feel like the light fixture looks European with the “skirt”.
I think the Brighton Hammered Pot Bronze Table Lamps would look great in our master.
If chosen, I would love the Possini Euro Vaile Desk Lamp with Dual USB Ports Warm Gold with Glass Shade. I need some lamplight for a table in my craft room. The seeded glass shade caught my eye. I love to decorate and I’m working on making my craft room a little cozier.
Thanks for the inspiration. Your sewing skills have added a very unique look that suits your style very well. I’ve looked at the Lamps Plus site many times and if I was selected, I’d love to choose the Orwell 10″ High Chrome Navy Blue 2-Light Wall Sconce. I think it would add some needed charm (and light) to the small bathroom renovation I have started. Fingers crossed!
OH, so many beautiful choices. Right now, I am loving the Eucalyptus Giclee Brushed Nickel Garth Floor Lamp!
I would love to replace ‘boob lights’ with the Roma 14 inch flush mounts in the upstairs bonus room where my daughter resides. The ceiling height isn’t very tall and they would really be an improvement!
I would love the Possini burlap modern pendant for the dining room of my 1960’s era ranch house! I love your choice of the drum shade pendant in your kitchen.
I love gingham anywhere, and drawing the eye from the chair to the kitchen table is wonderful. I’m looking for a ceiling-hugging fixture for my kitchen and the Possini Euro Adri looks like it meets all my requirements. And it’s on sale!
I like the shade but I am very partial to the plain white shade. I just sold my 103 year old house and bought a very bland builder spec home, the Metal No. 1 Antique Distressed Bronze Pendant would look fabulous over the island. I would need to purchase 2. This is my last home I will own in my lifetime, I am headed to the no stairs everything on one floor lifestyle. I do love your kitchen, that stove is like jewelry to me. The colors are so spot on and that island you bought is awesome. I love the history you see in the top. Cannot wait to see what you do next.
Lovely as always Marian!
If I were buying a new lamp, I would purchase the Wray Warm Antique Gold Modern Luxe Adjustable USB Desk Lamp.
Alese Neutral Earth Finish Textured Dot Jug Table Lamp would be such a lovely change for my living room.
Never would I have thought of a shade slipcover! Brilliant.
I have been reading your blog for year and have never seen so many comments.
I purchased a home built in the 80’s and would like a new light fixture for the dining and bedroom. There were so many lovely fixtures it would be hard to select just one.
I found several that would look great such as the Filmore and Kathy Ireland also the magnificence Crystal Pendant.
Enjoy seeing all the updates you have done to your homes.
I like the pleated shade but agree with other posters that the tablecloth is too matchy. In the Lamps Plus giveaway I would choose the Possini Euro Hazel 24″ Wide Warm Antique Brass Ceiling Light for my entryway.
The checkered lamp cover looks very cute and adds that little extra something to the room. The Sylvan 14″ Wide Modern Oatmeal Fabric Drum Ceiling Light would be great for a replacement hallway or bedroom ceiling light fixture or maybe one of the outdoor lights for the porch .
The checkered light cover is cute, adds that little something extra. The Sylvan 14″ Wide Modern Oatmeal Fabric Drum Ceiling Light would be a good replacement for our hallway light or maybe one of the bedroom lights. I don’t think my first comment posted so giving it another try.
You did a great job covering the light with your coordinating fabric! I liked the Nicholas Collection Polished Chrome Bathroom Lights (mine are looking outdated and could use some sprucing up)!
We just moved into a new home and what worked in our old home as far as spacing and light needs is completey different! Absolutely able to re-use some lamps from Lamps Plus in our new home but a few could use a refresh! Thanks MMS!
I love your pleated shade so much that if I won, I would have to copy exactly what you’ve done! It’s perfection!
I would be interested in purchasing the Bath Art 16″ Wide Brushed Nickel 2-Light Bath Light.
Well, I am in the LOVE IT camp on that shade. So adorable! And at Lamps Plus I would love the Rolland antique brass and glass table lamp!
I would love to replace the “boob” ceiling lights in our home. Your home is always cozy & welcoming, Marion. Thanks for this opportunity.
Once again you’ve inspired me to enhance my home with ‘finishing touches’ I love checkered material so this beautiful idea fits my vibe.
I am looking for proper floor lamps for my living room. I like the Spenser Brushed Antique Brass Traditional Floor Lamp that Lamps Plus offers. Thank you for the inspiration and giveaway opportunity
I’m not sure about the lamp shade cover with the chain cover too. Will look forward to seeing it in more posts. I’m sure you will style that area many more times.
I would love the Franklin Iron Works Maison Loft Antique Brass Table Lamp if I won.
Hi, Marian, I just had to stop to say hello. You commented a few months ago about a woman who purchased your dining room table and that was me. We went with a group to Raleigh to a flea market one time. I moved to Colorado from Virginia and, of course, still have the dining room table set I bought from you. It’s as lovely as ever and has wonderful memories attached to it. I saw your current table set and chuckled as I know you have purchased and sold so many dining room sets in your travels. I’m staying with the one I bought from you. I love to decorate and enjoy the inspiration I received from your wonderful ideas. My style is French Country Cottage and since I moved here, I’ve been downsizing and started selling on etsy. Thanks for the ideas. Take care.
I always wanted this lamp, The English Blue and White Porcelain Temple Jar Table Lamp. Right next to the front door.
I’m needing to replace my 25 year old outdoor post top; the Moray Bay post light would be perfect!
Your style has certainly changed …. guess I’m in the camp for the original linen shade; too much checky, checky with the table cloth. Too bad you couldn’t get additional chain to add and not need to cover it. It really is a lovely chain that plays with the other beautiful metals in the room. But, of course, you do you!!! 🙂
The kitchen is looking so great! From Lamps Plus, I love the look of the Bellagio 20 1/2″ High Bronze Downbridge Outdoor Wall Light. I’m looking to replace all my outdoor fixtures with a closed style that will be harder for the spiders to get into.
love the aged look of French Scroll 15 1/4″ Wide Three Light Iron Foyer Chandelier
57 Reviews, i would put it in my toilet room
Have wanted a new light fixture in the kitchen for years. Just have never found one my husband will not bang his head on….
Alese Neutral Earth Finish Textured Dot Jug Table Lamps Set of 2 Are very beautiful lamps. Very stylish
I can’t wait to check out their website. I’ve been wanting to replace our kitchen, dining room and living room lights since we moved into our home four years ago. I hadn’t found any light fixtures locally in Washington County that we like. Thank you for the chance to save extra money!
I love the shade cover you made!
I have had my eye on the Kathy Ireland Venezia chandelier for my new sewing room!
Love your choice and all of the progress there! For my home, I would put the credit toward a new pendant light in our kitchen area over the sink. I have wanted to replace it since we moved in 8 years ago. I like the look for the Donovan 13” brass and glass pendant light. Thank you for the opportunity! ❤️
I fell down the lamp rabbit hole! So many beautiful lights to choose from. I would pick the Tierdra Bronze 18” industrial cage pendant light.
PS. I love your cats. I have cats too.
Lisa
I like the look of your pendant! Very cozy old world vibes. I like the Gorham 16″ Wide Wood and Metal 4-Light Pendant Light. It also has an old world feel in a lantern shape. Crossing my fingers for the win!
It is always nice to repeat a fabric. The pendant slipcover looks especially nice looking through the doorway where you see the continuity between rooms. For a lighting fixture, I would go for two of the Liberty Gold or perhaps a pair of Possini Euro Design or Possini Euro Deco to replace a pair of flush mounts in the hall.
Great job on your lamp cover. Definitely European looking. I love your Possini gold Euro light. I have been looking for a drum pendant for over our dining room table. This would be perfect. Thank you for the opportunity.
I would probably select the Hampton Hill Brighton 40 1/2″ Wide Matte Black 6 Light Chandelier if I won.
Thanks for sharing your home with all of us.
I love how the new light and shade change the whole look of your area. Love the pleated shade. I am looking to replace my 3 porch fans and I think the 52” casa veija would be perfect.
I love the look of the pleated shade on your fixture, I think it would look best with out a matching tablecloth though, and just the bare wood table. I am almost at the end of a kitchen renovation and one thing I’d like to do is switch out the light fixture over our kitchen table. I think the Thayer 12″ Wide 3-Light Antique Gild Gold Mini Chandelier would work just right!
Our 1990’s home is in constant Reno/makeover mode and all of the lighting needs to be updated. The foyer light is my focus at the moment and I’m loving the Golden Lighting Haiden 15 3/4″ 4-Light Burnished Chestnut Wood Pendant light. It has the exact look I’m going for! Love the pleated shade! Thank you for the opportunity!
I love the slip cover you made for your chandelier. If I won I would love to have the Minka Lavery Harbour Point Chandelier.
It’s all just so pretty!! I’ve been eyeing the Savoy Eman Chandelier for my master bathroom that we are finishing up renovating. So many great ones it’s hard to decide on the perfect light!
Imbalance in decorations catches my eye quickly. I like what you did with the lamp shade however, in my opinion, the fabric pleating should end just below the lamp shade to create a better proportion. There is something making the shade hang crooked and I suspect it is more fabric on one side of the shade than the other, perhaps in a deeper pleat. I agree with other posters – the tablecloth adds too much pattern. The eye needs a place to rest so either try a solid table cloth or downsize the checkered table cloth to a table runner. Again my opinion- but it is your house and if you like it that is all that matters.
Thank you for the offer
My kitchen would sing with Possini Eiro design 15 light Nimbus.
Have a joyous weekend
I need the Possini Euro vogue modern tray table and usb floor lamp for my bedroom reading chair. It can stylishly hold by book and charge my phone at same time. May order even if I don’t win it 🤩
I am in great need of a flush mount lamp in both my closet and main hallway. It’s been bare bulbs for awhile now. There were SO MANY CHOICES on Lamps Plus. I like the look of the Maxim Fairmont 16″ Wide Aged Brass Ceiling Light, Fingers crossed!
Love how homey the lampshade makes it! I would order the Rainbow Desert Southwest Candlestick Table Lamp.
I would totally wear your lampshade slipcover as a skirt, only at my age, it would need to be several inches longer. 🤣 I need a new, kind of glammy light fixture for my master closet. The Primo 6 Light Royal Cut Crystal Flushmount Chandelier would possibly do the trick.
I would order the 70″ Kona Wind ceiling fan. It’s sliik and I love the wood color. Love your kitchen too.
I would love a new light fixture for my front porch! Thank you for the giveaway!
Our old home could use many updates, I would start with the Maxim Prime 16″ Wide Grass Cloth Drum LED Ceiling Light. It is perfect for our hallway!
I love your slipcover, tablecloth, and chair!! Definitely something that I would do!!
I am in need of 4 schoolhouse pendants for my kitchen. We can not replace the bulbs anymore, and I have been living without for too long!!! Time to remodel the kitchen!!!
I like the Tyce 11″ Wide Soft Gold Schoolhouse Pendant. I need the sloped ceiling adaptable.
Thank you for the giveaway!!!
Love reading your posts and learning from you!!!
Your house is really turning into your home now! I would 10/10 drink tea at that table. 😂 We had burst pipes over Christmas that caused extensive water damage and still haven’t replaced the light fixture in the laundry closet. Since it can’t really be seen due to bifold doors, I think the Minka Aire Spacesaver ceiling fan would be a good option to provide good airflow for drying hanging clothes and still provide good light for folding, etc. Great giveway!
I love what you did with this shade! If I won, I would buy new exterior sconces. I would love the same lantern ones you just installed at your new house. They are beautiful and easy to clean which is a plus!
Love the Ibeza 15.5” Crystal Filton at top of my steps.
give ’em the slip!
i’m looking for sconces for my forthcoming bathroom redo and Lamp Plus’ Monica 1-Light Antique Polished Nickel Wall Sconce is definitely in the running!
Mom said it best when she say the hanging light. It is so “European”. It was the perfect set of shoes for this space. It was what the romm was missing. Marion, you got it right. I love Kathy Ireland Venezia Gold 8-Light 26″ Wide Chandelier from Lamp plus.
Looking at your light fixture for an area over your table reminds me how desperately we need new lighting in our dining room. The fixture we have is so dim we can hardly see in the room at all. I need a really bright light in there as I do painting in the room from time to time. It would be fantastic to win money towards a new fixture from Lamps Plus. I would love a chandelier or pendant light
Love your blog. I would love a new floor lamp
Thank you for opening up your home for us to see. So many wonderful ideas. I especially love seeing your beautiful cats. Construction will start soon at our home on an outdoor pavilion and fireplace. Lamps Plus has a Minka Aire outdoor ceiling fan that I’ve been looking to purchase for this new area. Winning this contest would be fantastic to offset the cost!
Love the fabric light over the table especially the view from the living room.
The Bellis Verde outdoor light from Lamps Plus is on my wish list for our front porch makeover ❤
I love your new fabric covered light fixture, very European!
I would love to replace all my weird hall lights with the Possini Euro Angeline fixture if I was lucky enough to win the $250 spending spree!
The slip covered light fixture is adorable! I’d pick the Bellhaven Antique Brass Swing Arm Floor Lamp if I won the giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity!
There are several I like: the Stiffle Hartley 35′ wide warm antique gold 9 -light, the Stiffle Hartley 28″ wide warm antique gold 6 – light ring chandelier, Possini Euro Gable 40 1/2 Wide Soft Gold Modern 10 light , and the Maxim Furmont 30″ wide aged brass chandelier. Tough to decide.
The pleated cover is cute and it is always fun to try small inspirations like that to se how they turn out. Lamps Plus has many beautiful fixtures. I like the Cuthbert Iron and glass geometric star ceiling light.
As much as I love a great light fixture. At my age I have purchased all that I need for now. We did buy a little lake cabin and I have been eyeing the wicker/ rattan dining chairs. What a great assortment of home goods they carry!
As soon as I saw your fabric lampshade, I was reminded of my dining room light in Germany! I lived in a older rental house that a German family had fixed-up to rent to Americans working at the Army facility in town. They asked me which items I wanted them to leave for me to use, and a “vintage” hanging lamp was among the items I selected. It was a gathered, bubble-shaped tweedy-beige fabric with embroidered lace at the bottom, but your creation immediately brought my years in my little yellow house to mind. Thanks for the memory.
I moved into my new house in February and still haven’t chosen mirrors for my bathroom. I’m also thinking about getting a new headboard for my bed.
Perfect timing! I currently have 20 tabs up as I try to select new lighting. I’m trying to find a good connection between the ceiling fans I like, and the flush mount light that would be in between them. It’s been much harder than I thought it would be! On Lamps Plus I have the John Timberland Beverly Drive ceiling light and the Cassia15″ Wide Gloss black tabs up. Unfortunately, they don’t have a ceiling fan/light to match either of these. 🙁
Love your fixture. Looks darling. I would love the ceiling fixture Crystal buds, a drum shade, to put over my dining table. You’ve inspired me again.
I’ve had the harbor point ceiling light on my wish list for a while now.
With so many options to choose from, I don’t have a specific piece in mind but I’d love to get new, updated light fixtures for my owner’s bathroom.
Possibly the Milanese Candelabra Chandelier. I need to replace our dining room light.
I would choose something for my dining table like the Possinni Euro concentric wide bronze pendant.
I love your “lamp skirt”! You always have the best details!
I would go with the Possini Euro Alia. It would look great in my kitchen!
I think the ceiling fixture will look great with or without the skirting. I’m amazed how you can just “whip” up a cover, curtains, upholstery, etc. You are so gifted.
I like the DeMallo 6 light crystal chandelier for the bedroom.
I love the vintage fabric and how you transformed the light! Your blog is so inspiring and I look forward to reading about each project and design. I have my eye on the Jenson Aged Brass Adjustable Swing Arm Pharmacy Floor Lamp! Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I would love to add some new light to my home.
I love all the touches. Especially the light with the wrap shade- how clever. Lampsplus is a great vendor. I’d love to win the shopping spree.
Your home is looking more and more European with each touch! Lots of great inspiration to be had! I would love to update the lighting in my kitchen/dining area. My current lighting is builder grade and matching so adding personality with new lighting would be fun!
I love the Stratton Street 22″ High Black Outdoor Lantern. Thank you for the opportunity to win.
I would love the Kathy Ireland Venezia Gold 8-Light 26″ Wide Chandelier!
Your kitchen is a dream Marian! I love the new light fixture and slipcover!! If I won, I would purchase the Donovan Antique Brass and Clear glass pendant light or the Possini Euro black and gold dome pendant light… I love them both!
Hi Marian,
I love following you because you’re always up to something interesting. I’d love to enter the giveaway from Lamps Plus. My choice would definitely be Marinec 42″ Wide Black 8-Light Round Chandelier. I’ve had my eye on a chandy like this for over my kitchen table forever! It’s simple, but classic. I’m crazy for it. Thanks for the opportunity. 🩵🤍💙
I love how you personalized that light! You inspire me to think of ways to do this myself. I like the Quoizel Grant 13 1/2″ Wide Bronze Pendant Light. I have a table downstairs this might be fun to have over it. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my so sweet. I love it. If I won I think I would love this pendant lamp: Charleston 13 1/2″ Wide Clear Glass and Bronze Pendant Light. So many cute lamps, so hard to choose.
I’ve been browsing Lamps Plus and there are so many beautiful things there! Our family is moving to a larger house in a couple of weeks, and I know I’m going to need some more lighting, so I’m definitely bookmarking the Lamps Plus website!
I love everything you e done in your new home. I am looking at the Stffel chandeliers and they are gorgeous!
I’d love to get the scalloped lamp shades to upgrade some of my existing lamps.
I’d love the same lamp you chose! My current fixture is brushed nickel and I think the gold tone would warm up my space. And I love the idea of making a slipcover for the shade. You have the best decorating ideas.
I absolutely love your style! I’ve been following since your milk paint furniture tutorials! 😊
I think I would choose the Marinec 42″ Wide Soft Gold 8-Light Round Chandelier to replace my fluorescent fixture in my kitchen! 😍
I’m enjoying the magical transformation of your new house! Every angle of every room is just delightful!
I have a very funky, modern light fixture over my guest bathroom mirror that needs to go. The perfect light fixture to replace it on Lamps Plus is the Duncan 24 1/2″ Rubbed Bronze 3-Light Bath Light. It would transform the room!
I have been looking for a new chandler for my dining room. I really like the Charleston 13-1/2” brass pendant. It would be hard to pick though because I also saw several floor lamps that I like.
Hi Marian, I’ve been following your blog since the early days. You always inspire me. If I won I would pick some bathroom sconces like these. Hudson Valley 16″ High Gold Flower Blossom Wall Sconce. I’ve been on the hunt for the right ones since I’m about to redo my old run down bathroom. You always have great ideas for everything and this is a great contest. Thank you!
Hi Marian, I’ve been loving your blog since the early days. If I won I would get these sconces for my bathroom I’m about to get redone. It’s pretty old and run down and these would be beautiful. Hudson Valley 16″ High Gold Flower Blossom Wall Sconce
Hmmm. I like the Mid-century wood and hammered metal table lamps. I really need to replace my outdoor lights on the garage so now I am headed back to check those out.
I think the chandelier slipcover looks great. Definitely your style. The kitchen is beautiful.
Oh my fun lamps. I like that they had some battery powered options, and I am currently mainly looking for bedside table lamps.
It all looks so lovely! I was literally just on the Lamps Plus website earlier in the week looking for a picture light for over a new piece of artwork I just got. They have a lot of great choices! Fingers crossed.
I would love to be able to buy a ginger jar lamp. I’ve been obsessed with them lately, but they’re usually out of my price range.
I could really use a new ceiling fan and saw several great options!
Possini Euro Jevan 18″ Wide Brass Globe 3-Light Ceiling Light would look lovely in my cottage!
Oh I love the Downbridge Pharmacy Floor lamp. I’m putting it on my Bucket list!
Possini Euro Casa Star 16” in brass would look so beautiful in my colonial revival home’s living room.
Great inventory to choose from….. was pleasantly surprised! Love, the Hinkley Cartwright 11 1/2″ Wide Rustic Brass Mini Pendant!!!
Soo hard to choose…I was amazed at the inventory!!
One I thought was super sharp was Hinkley Cartwright 11 1/2″ Wide Rustic Brass Mini Pendant!!!
I just love this! I’ve been looking at this drum shade chandelier for a while now as I love the clean lines for my smaller dining room. But I’m moody and like to change things up. So I’ve put off buying it forever. Your solution is perfect! I’m enchanted! Bravo!
Love how you cozied up this space!
Lamp Plus has such a great collection. I’m being drawn to the Julia Traditional Gold and Crystal Buffet Lamps. But my, so many to choose from!
I’m on the hunt for a brass finish bathroom vanity light. The Harbor 3 point light is beautiful.
