A New Look & The Empty Nest

Notice something new?

I’ve been working with Reni on a new look for my blog over the past few months and it finally went live last night.  I still have a lot of work to do on the pages, but it’s getting there.

Today I went to do a book signing in Warrenton, VA at The Empty Nest.   I met Janet, the proprietress, a few years ago through our blogs.  I never thought I would be signing my book in her shop, so it was a pretty amazing day.

Janet also carries my Milk Paint at her shop…

…and her son was giving a milk paint demo.  Milk Paint can be a little intimidating, so it’s always nice to take some of the mystery out with a demonstration.

Janet also carries ASCP…

…and a lot of other beautiful antiques, handmade items and home decor…

…and, of course, I bought something.  I’ll show that to you another day.

Janet set up a beautiful table for me to sit at to sign the books.   Her fabric choice made me feel right at home!

And this book signing was extra special because my entire family was there with me.  One of my sons was fascinated by the fact that people wanted me to write in their books and he figured they would want him to write in their books, too.  A few ladies were so gracious and indulged him.

My other son just wanted to eat cookies.

It was also special because one of my close friends, Shari, and her family came to the book signing.  Shari is the mom of the farmhouse chic wedding bride and the Shari mentioned in chapter 5 of my book.

She’s been a great friend, mentor, shopping partner and fellow decorating enthusiast of mine for several years, so it was special to have her there.

After the signing, we went to her farm to catch up and let the boys burn off some energy before driving back home.

This grassroots book tour is turning out to be an awesome thing.  Some authors get to jet set across the country to chain book stores.  I think they’re really missing out.
