A Fall Day and A Before & After

Today is a wonderfully brisk fall day here in south central Pennsylvania.  I love fall.  It’s time to pull out the sweatshirts and football jerseys, the dutch ovens and the soup recipes, and the excitement of the holidays is just around the corner.  Today, I’m just going to hang out with my boys and watch the Redskins lose to the Eagles…probably, but I’ll still have fun doing it.  I may even bake some cookies.
Since it’s a lazy day for me, I’m going to share the before and after of the table I showed yesterday.  Here’s what it looked like before.  As I said, it’s a pretty table, but something about it looked a little stuffy and dated.  Is it just me?  Can I not leave well enough alone sometimes?

Well, distressed paint is all the “thing” right now, so that’s what I went with.  I wanted this piece to look really rough to contrast the formal shape, so I distressed it and antiqued it a lot.  I think  it looks much more casual and “today.”

Oh, how I love paint!
I hope you’re enjoying a fall Sunday afternoon in your neck of the woods!

  1. Hooray for you! I often catch a bit of grief for making over a "good" piece~ I think it was a nice improvement, much better after!

  2. I have to agree, I like it better after. It looks like a table my grandmother had and well her home always seemed like a museum to me;
    OK place to visit but not very comfy. (Oh and the Eagles are not all that and a bag of chips).

  3. I like the table painted. It brings out the detail so much more. Pretty pillows in the background! I love Fall, too! Glad you are having a day with a little relaxation, Marian! You deserve it!

  4. That table is just beautiful!! Of course I would love it stuffy of the way you have, looks like a wonderful vigenette you have going there, I spotted some beautiful pillows, also an eye popping little bench. Come on show us more!
    Thanks for sharing.

  5. I do love the transformation…before looks kinda ordinary and after has some stories to tell. By the way, I made my first book page wreath this week and left it on my craft table. The cat slept in it! Needless to say, it is rather flat now!

  6. I too would have walked right bye that table before… LOVE IT with all the detail enhanced! Love everything you've added in fact and wish my budget weren't so tight… Been out teachin n ridin but am now baking cookies and thinking how much I hope we can connect soon!

  7. I love the look of how you distressed it. Do you have a tutorial or instructions somewhere on your blog that explains what steps you took to get that look?
