As you probably know, I’m on the hunt for things to fix up to take to Lucketts, especially furniture. I have to be focused on building the stash, but a couple of pieces that I intended for the fair are staying in my house. One of them, the vanity/desk is just too perfect for my bedroom to sell and this dresser…
…is the perfect candidate for a project I was just hired to do. I recently finished a round of kitchen and bedroom project tutorials for HGTV.com and now have been hired to tackle some bathroom projects. Our master bathroom was pretty low on the makeover priority list, but when it’s my job, it gets bumped way up the list! Woohoo! This dresser is not only beautiful, but it’s the perfect measurements to convert it into a bathroom sink vanity, so I can’t let it go. Just imagine this dresser with a simple white drop-in sink and this faucet…
The Weymouth Nickle faucet from Moen is the one I have my eye on, anyway.
The dresser has amazing details…
…turned legs, casters…
…and even came with a mirror that I can mount on the wall. Perfect! And I think I’m actually going to refinish it instead of painting it. The wood is so pretty and I’m picturing the bathroom with soft blue walls, white tile & fixtures, a shower curtain (also an HGTV project) with the fabric used in my bedroom. The dark walnut will warm up the room and make a nice statement.
We’re also going to install a skylight tube to bring in some natural light. (There will be a tutorial for that as well!) I can hardly wait to start the demo work, but that will have to wait until after the fair.
So, speaking of the fair, I am actually buying things I plan to sell (and I’m selling pieces that I currently have in my home to add to the stash.) I showed you the table base I found a couple of weeks ago and last week I found an old barn door that made the perfect table top…
It has tons of character and fits great… The perfect match!
I was tempted to keep this as well, since I’m selling my dining set, but it’s big (4′ x 8′), so it’s too overwhelming for my space. My husband will be building me something very similar, though. Right, hon?
…and the bathroom.
Tomorrow I’m setting out for New York just outside of Brooklyn. That area was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Sandy. We’re going to a church there that was without power for months and had to deal with cleaning up their church building and parsonage after flooding with 3′ of standing water. They need some help installing flooring and painting some rooms…right up my alley! I’m bringing what I need to keep my blog updated, so I plan on sharing when I have the chance. I’m excited about using things I enjoy doing to serve others.

Love the pieces you have shown…..the master bathroom sounds lovely, as well as the piece you are going to use as a vanity. That lonnnnnng table is delicious, too!! And as exciting as this all is, you bring a smile not only to my face, but to this reader’s heart. That probably has something to do with your own heart, MMS….and the warmth that flows from it. God’s richest blessings on you, dear one.

Marion, just wanted to wish you luck in New York. What a beautiful, nice thing you’re doing!
If you can squeeze in two sinks into that dresser, it is Always Worth it. Trust me. I put a skylight in my bathroom about twenty years ago. It is still thrilling, especially at night. There’s nothing like taking a bath with the moon out. Everyone deserves a nice bathroom. Period.
Marion, God bless you for doing something wonderful for others in need. I will keep you in prayer for safe travels to and from NY.
I am looking forward to reading/seeing the work you are able to do in New York. I’m sure your talents will be a blessing.
Thank you for going to serve.
That dresser will make a gorgeous vanity for the sink. Love it and the table.
Safe travels to NY and continued blessings to you & yours.
I can’t wait to see the master bathroom redo, especially the repurposed dresser for a bathroom vanity! I’d love to try that myself in our guest bath! 🙂
Lovely blog you have
Have a nice day
Tina!
Love the dresser turned vanity idea!! I actually done the same thing in the house I built 3 years ago. It was a family piece passed down to me so that made it even more special. You seem to stay so busy I don’t know how you do it all!! God bless!! Marti
I am bringing a dresser/vanity sink to Lucketts too!
Lovely furniture piece and it WILL make a wonderful vanity! Furniture, lovely as it is, will only last for a time but working for The Lord is an eternal investment! Blessings on your mission trip!
Marian, That’s an awesome thing to do for the people of NY…you will be blessed beyond belief for your service! There is a reason why you’ve been given the gift of such talent and service. Praying for safe travels for you and your whole crew going with you! Thanks for sharing all that you are doing! God Bless!
My husband and I built our home in 2009 and incorporated 2 dressers as sinks, and I absolutely love them. They’re unique and add a special warmth to both of the rooms. We love antiques and history, so they fit right in. I also insisted on a refurbed clawfoot tub and a chandelier:) Do it – you won’t be sorry!
Looking forward to seeing you at the May Market! Kriste’s wedding is in September and we need a few more pieces for the barn wedding! Have my eye on a scale you posted a while ago. We will be there bright and early! Yipeee
Hi Marion….I have been a faithful reader of your blog since the beginning and want to say thanks for coming to the NY area to help with Hurricane Sandy reconstruction. We were hit hard too in NJ and are still in the process of rebuilding – just when we had finished our renovations!! I read your blog daily for inspiration and to help keep me motivated that there is an end in sight and things will be beautiful again. Thanks for all you do and all you share!
When I first began reading this post and saw that dresser – I thought “oh the finish is awesome on that piece, I hope she isn’t going to paint it!”…so glad you are going to leave it as is, it’s going to be amazing when it’s finished…can’t wait to see it!
Also think it’s amazing that you are taking some time to help out others in NY… 🙂
Will your HGTV tutorials you are working on be in the magazine or on TV in the future? You are such a blessing to help out that church. God gave you all those gifts and he knew you would use them wisely.
Great table. I would be tempted to keep it as well.
You are amazing and have so much engergy, you are like the energizer bunny. I love the idea of that piece being turned into a vanity….PERFECT! Love the table too and you’re right a perfect match. Love the way your brain works.

Dear MMS, I love that you’re not going to paint it, I think the natural wood is beautiful too. It all sounds so lovely and I’m sure it will have your signature look! Hugs, Anne Boykin
Ohhh man… that is going to be soooo gorgeous in your bathroom. Can not wait to see it!
Cindy
Love that!! here in Chicago, I just purchased the EXACT Chest/Dresser for $35 at thrift store near my home.. It is in PERFECT Shape.. after Cleaning it up just a tad, its now sitting in my Victorian Foyer until I figure out where I will put it as a perminant place.
i cannot wait to see the dresser converted to a bathroom vanity! beautiful piece you found.
Our master bath is a sort of Lucketts green walls with white vintage-looking fixtures & white bead board tub surround. We put a tall antique dark mahogany/cherry end table with claw feet between the pedestal sinks and did the linen cupboard to match. Until then the space seemed to float or be too sweet…the natural wood furniture anchored eveything & showed off the paint even better. It was just right. Looking forward to seeing you do what you do!
Just wanted to say that it is so kind of you to go to NY to help! My family was hit hard by the storm and there are not enough workers to go around. My parents finally got their floors put in last week! It has been a slow process. God bless you and keep you safe!
Marian, God bless you for helping with the needs in New York!
I love, LOVE the dresser you will be using in your bathroom!! I can’t wait to watch the transformation.
Love love love the dresser for a vanity and the table is amazing! That is awesome you can use your talents to help those in Brooklyn! Have a wonderful trip!
Marian, I’m going to be eagerly watching your bathroom makeover because I’m so wanting to makeover my three bath sometime soon. I’d love to use a old dresser as the sink base in my half bath. Love the piece you found and can’t wait to see it in use in your new bath. I know it will be wonderful just from your description!

Please let me know when the HGTV shows are on! You are amazing!
YAY! That was what I visualize on this green table base. ..
That dresser is simply gorgeous!
…And I am sure you will love the skylight in your bathroom. The bathroom in our new house has one, and I love all the light that this small space gets during the day without the risk of us being seen when we are in the shower, like we might if we had a regular window in the bathroom. 🙂
Have fun on your service trip! I bet the church members would appreciate the expert help they are getting. Hope your group manages to accomplish everything you are planning to do on this trip. I will be looking forward to updates.
WOW, Marian!!!!
I love everything!!!!
The dresser, the table (LOVE LOVE LOVE) and the fact you are being HIRED to do projects YYYYYAAAYYYY!!!!!
I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD to this bathroom redo!!!!
I have a 60’s bangalou and I want to redo my bathroom BADLY. I want to make it black and white (mostly white) subway tiles. Clean, marble (or quarts) sink top. I will definitely look here for guidance!!!! I also want a shower with CURTAINS! I want a pretty white ruffled curtain.
I want to make it “Frenchy”!
Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!! I want to be like you!!!! (Remember Mogli dancing on Jungle Book???)
Claudine
Marian … What a great piece for your bathroom. Glad you are refinishing, not painting. Can’t wait to see how it finishes out. I am sure you will make it work beautifully. Have a successful trip and God bless this group for taking time to help these people.
Hugs,
Audrey Z @ Timeless Treasures
Marian, this piece will be beautiful in your bathroom! Can’t wait to see it all finished.
Good for you – sharing your expertise with those who are so much in need.
The dresser for the bathroom is stunning!!!! Wow. Where in the heck do you find such wonderful treasures???? That will be outstanding in a bathroom OR any place where you want to use it. Looking forward to seeing the finished project.
As I am in the process of remodeling a bathroom, I thought the faucet was really nice too so I clicked on the link…over $800!!! Is that for real?
This table is just great! But it sure demands a grast kitchen!
I love that table. Maybe I can get my husband to make me one. My dining room table has seen better days and this table would make a great replacement.
pretty pretty dresser. your bathroom plans sound perfect! as always, can’t wait to see it come together…I mean I can wait but I don’t want to. 😉
Perfect! I LOVE how you were able to use the legs & I CANNOT wait to see it as a vanity! 😀
I can’t even begin to imagine how you transport all your goodies. You’ve got some pretty big pieces! Your booth space must be huge! And what a dream to get paid to update spaces in your home…lucky gal;)
