Goodwill Goodies & Mural Preview

Thank you for the great response to my very first Furniture Feature Friday and my new blog design. Isn’t Laura (my designer) so talented? I love it!

Anyway, I am in the process of working on a mural (preview below), so I don’t have a new pieces of furniture or any tips & tricks for you today. I do have a few new finds from Goodwill yesterday.

OK, hear me out on this lamp. I know it’s brass, but look at the shape! And that shade is just crying out to be tole painted, right? Are you feeling me? It was $6.97.

As most lovers of French Country style, I like roosters…in moderation. I don’t want my house to look like a coop, but I like one here and there. I really liked this towel holder. I’m not sure, yet, if I’m going to sell it or use it in my office (for when I paint.)

And lastly, I found this wood shelf for $3.97. I need some shelving in several places in my house, so I couldn’t pass this up. The wood is in good condition, so I may leave it as is or paint it black or white.

And here’s a little preview of the Star Wars mural I’m working on for my 8 year old client. Just about everything I do is very feminine, so it’s fun to work on something like this. Tomorrow I have to paint another X-Wing and finish Jango Fett. (It’s hard to write that with a straight face.) I’ll give you a full reveal when his room is finished.

  1. Ohhhh my oh my… I have to tell you this. I have an actual metal chicken coop (complete with abit of rust too!!) in my garage ready to be hung up somewhere. Will you still be my friend?!? 🙂

Your finds are wonderful! And my eyes are wide open for that mural. I've done abit of muraling in my day and plan to do more one day when I KNOW more.

  2. Ohh…love the lamp! It looks like a variation of a bouillotte lamp, which do sometimes have black tole shades. I love it! I have an old one of my mother's and need to replace the shade…$$$!! Yikes! You got a steal!! Maybe leave the lamp brass…it's classic. Happy weekend…Debbie

  3. Donna, I actually like coops and hanging one on the wall is a wonderful idea! I would even pay good money for one. I just don't want to have so many roosters and chickens in my decor that my house looks like a coop. Yes, I'll still be your friend.

  4. The mural idea looks sweet! My older brothers had the same color scheme in their room when we were little…but I think they had race cars and drivers on their barkcloth curtains….it was pre Star Wars….well, just a wee pre…not a grand. wa ha!

  5. I love the lamp! even the way it is, but I'm sure it will look amazing when you paint it.
Lucky little boy to have that Star Wars mural, my 6 year old would LOVE that

  6. Wow, I love your blog. I just spent an hour reading all your wonderful tips ! Thanks for stopping by and for following. I know you would put the fabric to good use.

  7. Great finds, like the lamp. I found two lamps at the Salvation Army and wasn't to sure they would work for me. When I went back to get them, they were gone. Oh well, I keep looking.
