furniture finds

I’ve been on the hunt for furniture to start working on for the Lucketts Spring Market in May.  Every year, I put pressure on myself to best what I did the year before.  Well, last year was pretty awesome, so I don’t know if I’m going to beat it, but I at least want to match it.

I’ve been shopping at some used furniture stores and on Craig’s List and have found some really great things so far…

I wanted this pair of French bergere chairs in the worst way!  My dad drove into Virginia to get them for me and, as it turns out, I bought them from a blog reader and Lucketts shopper!  She had even talked to me about these chairs last year.  She decided they were too much for her to tackle and I happened to be the one to pick them up off of Craig’s List.  It was meant to be.  She already said she might be buying them back from me!

I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to do with them, yet, but we’ll strip them down and go from there.

I also bought a pair of balloon backs…

These are going to get pretty blue & white ticking slipcovers.

This is another Craig’s List find and was my best bargain…

We’re sort of swimming in chairs at the moment.  Not that I’m complaining.

I also got this beast-of-a-hutch off Craig’s List for a good price.  Of course, it’s getting painted…

…as is this china cabinet with wavy glass…

…and this oak cupboard (imagine it filled with ironstone)…

And I picked up this workbench and a few other things as well.

There is a lot of painting and upholstering in my future, of that I am sure.

As I shared a few weeks ago, the Lucketts Spring Market will be opening on Friday, May 15, 2015, for a die-hard shoppers at a premium price ($40).  You can pre-buy tickets here…

If you’re coming Friday or Saturday, you can buy a ticket at the gate for $10.

  1. Hi Marian – love these chairs! And that workbench would make a great kitchen island! I see so many of these French style chairs on Craigslist and would love to get a couple, but I’m never sure what “a good price” is, since I’m not that familiar with how to determine if they’re antiques or newer construction.

  2. Please keep us updated as you remake these wonderful pieces.
Some of them are close to pieces I have and have been stuck
in what creative direction to go.
    You are the best !

  3. Oh gosh, you have so many great pieces! Lol, the photo of the chairs lined up (“Get on the Bus”!). I’m heading up to Lucketts for the April opening weekend, but so wish I could be there in May and that it wasn’t so crazy for shoppers, but that’s all good. Just wondering…does that oak cabinet have shelves, and are they glass or wood?

  4. count your blessings….you’d never find those in Southern California. Well…not in the vast numbers you find them on the East side of the U.S.

  5. You have a lot of nice pieces to play with! There’s never anything like that where I leave on Craig’s List.

  6. Would you consider painting the “beast-of-a-hutch” like you did your jelly cabinet from a few months back? I think the Flow Blue/ Artissimo combination would look stunning on it!

  7. Oh my goodness that’s a fabulous haul!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with them! Ticking stripe on those chairs will be gorgeous!

  8. I’m so excited to see the ticking on those chairs. I think my heart skipped a beat when I read that. I liked your thought of taking off the old upholstery on the one chair and deciding after that. I imagine it is easier to see different options once the old upholstery fabric is history.

  9. Wow. You hit the mother lode of furniture. I have the chair in the 4th photo. It will also be getting a makeover…eventually. love everything.

  10. Love EVERYTHING! Aren’t you glad you have a studio now! Your house would be crammed with all that furniture in it!

  11. Can’t wait for the update on the “Mauve” chairs … i have duplicates of these here at home … i too have been stuck like many of the posts here … need a magic wand & a free weekend!

  12. you certainly are filling the studio up with goodies. great finds!! I’m always drawn to balloon backs. those are some gorgeously curvy chairs! Can’t wait to see how you mustardize the up.
