Lucketts Spring Market Preview (available original paintings)

As I shared a couple of weeks ago, I’m heading back to the Lucketts Spring Market as a semi-vendor.  Since my business has changed so much over the past eight years, I’m just testing the waters to see how my original art will sell at that venue.  I’ll be there just one day, Friday, May 15, from 1-4 pm, to do a bit of painting and be available to say hello.  I’m also bringing along some of my original oil paintings to sell.  As is my custom with Lucketts (and my online art sales), I’m posting a preview of the items I’m bringing along with measurements and prices.  I do this so potential buyers have an opportunity to consider the piece without the rush and pressure of the market.  They can consult their significant other, if necessary, their budget, and make sure they have the perfect spot for it.  Since my past Lucketts shoppers haven’t rushed to my booth for original oil paintings, I felt like it was even more important to share the details in advance.

Here are the pieces I’m bringing to the market.  All are in antique or vintage frames, so they are ready to hang on the wall.  I also enjoy the process of pairing a painting with a frame that showcases it well, so it was fun to put the finished pieces together.  Works that don’t sell at Lucketts will be in the next original art sale, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026.  There will be early access for subscribers at noon, and then it will be open to everyone at 1:00 pm.  If you would like early access to the sale, subscribe HERE.  This is separate from a blog subscription, and you will only receive e-mails about original art sales when subscribed to this list.

This has to be one of my favorite pieces I’m bringing.  Sometimes a painting comes off the brush just right, and you don’t know why or how to repeat it, which is a part of what makes some paintings so special.  I feel like this is one of those paintings.

The problem with that painting is it looks good everywhere in my house!  I held it up in a few places, and it was so hard not to keep it.  I’m going to sell this one and paint one for my house later.

I enjoyed painting the snowball viburnum bouquet, so I painted another on a panel custom-cut to fit this antique Victorian frame.

I bought a batch of new frames for 9 x 12 paintings, since it’s a popular size, and I sometimes have difficulty finding antique and vintage frames that size.  This is one of those frames.

This painting has been hanging on the wall in my house for a while, but I decided to put it up for sale and replace it with a charcoal drawing I did of my youngest son.

Runaway Rocky, original oil on 16 x 18″ board, in an antique gilt and wood frame.  Overall measurement is 21 x 23 x 2.5″. $650

I did this study a few years ago, and I’ve always liked it.  I had it hanging in my studio in our previous home, and in our dining room in this house.  When I painted the mural in the dining room, though, it ended up in a bin in the basement, and I haven’t found a spot for it.  It seems a shame to have an original painting sitting in the basement, so I decided to sell it.

Tonal Master Study, original oil on 8 x 10 canvas panel, in antique gilt, gesso, and wood frame.  Overall measurement, including frame, 14.5 x 12.5 x 2.5″. $300

I changed the frame, but this is how it looked in my studio…

The story is the same with this Velázquez study.

I’m also bringing some original landscape paintings on index cards (A-H), mounted and matted ($65/each).  When I sold at the Spring Market each year, I tried to have a wide range of prices, some as low as $1.00, so everyone could afford to buy something at my booth.  It’s hard to do that with original paintings, because of the materials and time required for each one, but this is my more “affordable offering.”  I also have a few prints I ordered by mistake that I’ll bring.

Lastly, I’m bringing some copies of Feels Like Home in case anyone would like a signed copy.

Let me know if you have any questions!

  1. Beautiful work! I’m especially fond of the viburnum paintings and the antique frames. I snatch one up whenever I come across them. I think I may have to snatch up one of your works, as well!! (I’ve always wanted one of your cows!)

  2. Beautiful work, Marian. Good luck with your sales. Hope the weather and the trip there is perfect for you.

  3. I hope you enjoy a wonderful return to Lucketts. I hope to make the long drive there from New Hampshire one day to see it all for myself. Your paintings are beautiful and you have a wonderful eye for just the right frames for them. I’m sure they’ll all sell – they’re so special.

  4. Beautiful work, Marian. I am just beginning painting after a long hiatus, ie college days until slightly early retirement. You are such a source of inspiration! Best of luck at Luckett’s! I am going to try my hand at selling a few vintage finds at the end of this month at a local parking lot sale. It’s always really well attended. If you ever wanted to do a post sharing your tips on selling at a temporary show/market, I would be first in line to read it!
Thank you again for such great content.
