deconstructed chair progress

Remember this “deconstructed chair” I wrote about a little while ago?  Okay, a looong while ago?  Let’s do a little update on the deconstructed chair and see how it’s coming along… Well, Kriste and I have been chipping away at it here and there, but I made some real progress on it today.  I had been at my desk, painting, sketching, writing, and creating, and my eyes were starting to cross, so I needed to shift gears. I decided to upholster the inside of the deconstructed chair in an antique French linen sheet that I purchased a couple of years ago off Etsy.  It had my initials on it and I just couldn’t resist.  I haven’t had the nerve to cut it up, but this felt like the right time, the right piece for it. Now, my nice “break” from eye-crossing tasks turned into a frustrating wrestling match with fabric.  I

“I knew you were here…”

I went shopping on Friday to get some fresh inspiration and to find some things for the online shop.  I stopped at a couple of local stores and then one of my favorite local antique malls.  When I went to the checkout, one of the vendors said, “I saw that pile on the counter and I knew you were here!” I looked over to the pile and, yep, it was pretty much “me” in a collection of items found spread over dozens of booths.  Mostly blue and white finds and lots of ironstone. I’ve been shopping antique stores for a long time and that’s always been one of my favorite things about it.  Someone can shop from many different vendors, curating things that catch their eye, and by the end of the trip, you can see their style in the collection of items. There’s something cool about that. Anyway, my favorite

four chairs, a pin cushion & poutine

I totally missed announcing that I was listing some new things in my online shop tonight, but they are there!  I listed a few larger pieces as well, including the hand-painted nightstands that were in our master bedroom for a few years. I’m going to head out tomorrow to do some more shopping, so hopefully I’ll have some more awesome finds to list next week.  And, speaking of awesome finds, I picked up a couple of things on my trip to New York last week.  I found these chairs for the bargain price of $45 for all four! I love how they have both a Swedish and farmhouse feel to them. The rushing isn’t in perfect condition, but the seats are still sit-able and the chairs themselves are sturdy.  A seat cushion will solve the cosmetic issues, so I’ll either order or make some soon.  I’m leaning towards making them, just

ironstone, linen tea towels, quilts & more

Last week, I set out to find a desk for Calvin’s room in a local antique store and, while I was out, I picked up a few things to list in the online shop. I found a bunch of ironstone – some very pretty tureens were the highlight, but I also got sugar jars, small pitchers, a set of dinner plates, platters, bowls, etc. This one is particularly special, but I have enough “special” tureens and I already swapped out two in this bunch to keep for myself, so I’m letting it go. ..a set of four vintage coffee cups… How cute are they?  I’m not a coffee drinker, but I hope this style of coffee cup makes a comeback. I also listed this great breadboard… …and a couple of red and white quilts… … a bunch of heavy linen tea towels from Europe… …as well as another group of hemp

antique haul | 8.22.16

Late last week, I hit a wall.  I love my work, but sometimes I need to step away from my house and the studio and recharge creatively.  A day out shopping usually does that for me.  So, my mom and I hit a craft store for more watercolor and sketching supplies and we also hit one of my favorite antique stores. I was shopping mostly for inspiration, but I also kept an eye out for things I could sell in the online shop and I found quite a few goodies. Here’s a video showing my “haul”… And here are some detail shots of a few of the items… That huge ironstone platter has the most amazing pattern on it… I did decide to keep the linen napkins.  Just for a little while, anyway!  They are just too sweet to not use in a few photo shoots before I sell them.

fresh finds, pretty flyswatters & studio flooring

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to take a day to mill around an antique store.  There has just been too much to do at the studio and, of course, things have been off-kilter with the summer schedule, my recent trip to Atlanta, etc.  School starts in a couple of weeks and then it’ll be back into the routine. Hopefully. While I haven’t been able to make it out shopping, a few things have made their way to me and we’ll be listing them in the online shop this Thursday (the sale will go live at 8:00 pm EST, which is becoming our usual sale night.) I love these blue and white napkins with fringe detail…  As with all things blue and white, I’m tempted to keep them, but a drawer full of linen napkins in my dining room tells me I need to let these go on to another

a white cabinet, antique textiles & ironstone

I’ve found some beautiful things lately and I was inspired today to put them together for a little show-and-tell post on the blog. First off, the cabinet… It was a craigslist gem and I just might be keeping it!  It’s a really special piece with that wavy glass… …and the old hardware and paint.  It’s also a petite size, so it would be great in a hallway or bathroom. I also got in a shipment of European linens.  In addition to a bunch of hemp sheets, I got some beautiful linen tea towels with blue stitching and monograms. I really want to keep them all and just stack them in a cabinet, but I’m going to sell almost all of them.  (I will take pictures of the cross-stitching patterns to share first, because there are some great ones!) I also have some rolls of blue windowpane toweling as well… When shopping last week, I

latest furniture haul

First of all, thank you so much for the amazing feedback on our latest video project!  Just like the “yellow dress and the dresser” video, it literally popped in my head and then happened so organically.  I am very much someone who does their best work out of inspiration, not on demand!  I imagine most of us are that way and we don’t feel as proud of things we created just because necessity or obligation dictated. Anyway, as I shared yesterday, I needed a piece of furniture to paint for the video.  For the first time in a really long time, I was fresh out. So, my mom and I went to a few local antique and used furniture stores to find a piece. We found this pretty little dresser.  It really was gorgeous and not one I would usually buy to paint, but I was on a time crunch,
