whole30 results & styling session giveaway

I know some of you have been waiting to hear about my whole30 results and I can’t believe I haven’t shared them before now!  I wanted to share, but I’ve been debating with myself about how much to share and I always need a little extra time to work up the courage before I get really personal. So, here is my whole30 review and the results… Deep breath, muster that courage and here we go. In case you missed it, I spilled my guts about my food/body image/yo-yo dieting issues HERE.  I gave an update on day 11 of whole30 HERE.  All of the tears and tantrums happened before day 11, so it was pretty boring from that point on.  I got into a rhythm and eating real, whole foods became a habit.  I still had my ups and downs, though.  I really wanted to see “miracle-esque” weight-loss results after just a couple

whole30 | day eleven

I told you I would write some updates here and there on whole30, so I thought I would check in now that I’m over 1/3 of the way through.  (In case you missed it, I shared my struggles with food and yo-yo dieting in THIS POST.)  If you’re not familiar with whole30, it’s an elimination diet that you commit to for 30 days.  No dairy.  No sugar.  No grains.  No alcohol.  No legumes.  No cheating.  No excuses. While I think this diet can benefit just about anyone, I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone.  You have to really be ready to submit to their strict, black and white, no flexibility rules and you’ll learn quickly that it isn’t easy.  I chose this plan, because I really need strict boundaries.  I need to experience freedom within those boundaries before I can allow myself to make judgement calls about food.  It’s judgement calls that

made to crave & whole 30

This is the raw post I was talking about writing.  This doesn’t have anything to do with home decor or painted furniture.  It has to do with me and a constant struggle I’ve had since middle school.  This post is about food, body image, addiction and cravings.  It’s going to be real and honest.  I’m going to lay it all out there, knowing that a lot of you can relate. Soooo…this would be a long story, but I’ve told parts of it before.  Of course, I gained weight after having two babies 19 months apart.  And then I lost 35 lbs.  And I put it back on.  And I lost some of it again.  And I put some of it back on.  I’m a classic yo-yoer.  I’m an “I’ll start on Monday”er.  I have every good excuse in the book as to why I should eat something or shouldn’t exercise at any

an adventure in new york

I received one of those e-mails last week.  The kind that seems sort of crazy and surreal.  It was from Pinterest and they were asking if I would be interested in traveling to NYC to be interviewed for a Fox News extra on upcycling.  It seemed a little far-fetched and I wasn’t sure if it would actually work out, but just a few days later, I was driving up to New Jersey to take a train into Manhattan. Kriste and David escorted me there, which was fortunate, since I proved to be a bit of a mess when it came to public transportation.  I was always putting my ticket in upside down or backwards or swiping it twice, so that I had to pay again to get back.  I somehow even messed up exiting the parking lot at the train station, even though I did everything right.  They had to

six months with T1D & JDRF walk to cure

I don’t talk about a lot of personal things on this blog.  It’s mostly about my home and business and you learn about me along the way.  I sometimes talk about clothes, food, fitness and things that may be on my mind, but this isn’t a blog about keeping you updated on all the details about my family.  When my five year old son was diagnosed in January with type one diabetes, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share it on my blog.  My initial thought was to not share it.  But it was a lot and I needed support and encouragement.  I get a lot of that from my blog readers, many who have followed me for over four years and have cheered me on.  So, I took a deep breath and, in the wee hours, in a plastic hospital room chair, with tears in my eyes, I poured my

my favorite pizza | margherita pizza recipe

I’m going to change things up a bit today and share on of my favorite go-to dinner recipes – Margherita pizza.  I’ve shared snapshots of my pizza on Instagram and Facebook and I always get requests for the recipe.  It’s really simple, but here it is…   I became a vegetarian almost two years ago and that changed my regular rotation of dinners.  Pizza, Margherita pizza, specifically, quickly became a favorite for me.  It’s filling, it’s ooey-gooey comfort food and it’s quick.  Now, we’re not talking takeout or freezer pizza.  I know there are good ones out there, but I prefer to make food with fresh, whole ingredients as much as possible.  I think it just tastes better. I’ve tried a lot of variations and this is the recipe I came up with…   Since the ingredients are very simple, it’s important that they are high quality.  Now, I’ve hated

there are just no excuses…

I’ve had a relaxing long weekend.  It’s nice when there is a holiday, because blog and social media traffic are slow, anyway, so I don’t feel like I need to post.  I pretty much ignored my computer for a couple of days, except for browsing Pinterest and making sure my e-mail inbox didn’t get out of control. I think the weather didn’t get the memo that it was July 4th and it was supposed to be hot, sticky and gross like it usually is.  Instead, the weather was absolutely delightful.  It was clear and warm with a breeze that had a slight chill in it as the day progressed.  The weather was so nice that we went to parks two days in a row.  On Friday, we went to a local lake, ate a picnic and walked a flat trail that runs along a creek.  Two overly-tired boys meant we didn’t stay

life updates

I suppose I’m not providing an update on everything, but just a lot of things that have been going on over the past year that I’m often asked about.  I don’t want to throw something out there in a blog post and then never let you know how it’s going, so here you go… Fitness/Health Journey In the summer of 2012, I made some big changes in the way I ate and took care of myself.  You can check out my full fitness plan HERE.  Since then, I completed P90x, some of Insanity until my back informed me that I was asking too much of it.  The result is that I have lost over 20 lbs.  It’s been a very slow weight loss that stalled around October of 2013.  I’ve gotten a little sidetracked.  I’m still working out (running and doing p90x3) and I’m still sticking to my eating dos
