the sweatshirt event & magazine features

Every time we have t-shirts printed, my crew and I order sweatshirts.  Hoodies, to be more specific.  And then we pretty much live in them all winter. This year, we ordered a new “throw-back style” sweatshirt and we absolutely love them.  They are so soft and comfy, but have a bit more shape and style to them than the old style we ordered. It was rainy and cold the Saturday of Lucketts, so we all wore them and received so many compliments and inquiries, that I decided we would offer them for sale to our readers. Basically, you asked for it, you got it! Since these are more expensive than a t-shirt, they are special order.  Here’s how the sweatshirt event will work…  The listing is live for the sweatshirts now.  You purchase the size(s) you want, we’ll place the order and have them printed and then shipped out.  So,

in a perfect world…

There are times when I am going about my day…having a conversation, surfing on my computer, helping with homework, working on a project…and a theme keeps coming up.  A common thread, a little gem, is found. Such was the case today. It started with Instagram.  I saw a post Maria from Dreamy Whites shared about the marble she selected for her kitchen makeover.  In the post, she shared that everyone, including the salesmen at the store, tried to talk her out of marble.  Why?  Because it stains and etches and won’t look perfect forever. She said, “I have a French pastry cupboard that has a marble top that is over 100 years old.  I love every scratch and discoloration that the century old marble counter shows.  Don’t let anyone talk you out of marble if it’s what you really want…” A photo posted by Dreamy Whites Lifestyle (@dreamywhiteslifestyle) on Jan 16,

idea overload & glass glitter banner kits

This weekend, I’m presenting at the Holiday Expo at McLean Bible Church, just outside of DC.  (I shared the details HERE, if you’re interested in attending.)  With a sick kid, I was a little behind with getting my presentation together, but I’m going to the set up and rehearsal tomorrow, so I needed to get myself in gear today! As I’ve been thinking about what table setting I want to present, I found my head swimming with ideas.  Too many ideas for one table. Idea overload.  I don’t usually feel that way, so I was very indecisive about which direction I would go. In that moment of feeling overwhelmed with all the possibilities, I realized that a lot of blog readers and Pinterest lovers must feel that way. This expo is about bringing Pinterest and Etsy to life, so I felt like I should share ideas that are popular on those

“miss mustard seed in a box” giveaway

As I’ve been working on my “how my business began” series, I have had to dig through old posts to find pictures and I’ve been reminded of some things I had forgotten about.  One of the things I tripped across was a giveaway I ran when I reached 2000 followers on my blog – the “Miss Mustard Seed in a Box” giveaway. I offered up a few of my favorite things, including ironstone, a feed sack, bakelite knives, a balance scale and more. Seeing that old post made me smile.  It reminded me of a time when I counted every single follower and watched my numbers with eagerness.  I still do that at times, but it’s not like opening a daily Christmas present, as it once was. After “the post” I wrote, asking you what you wanted from my blog, I feel like it’s been a fresh start and some of

made to crave & whole 30

This is the raw post I was talking about writing.  This doesn’t have anything to do with home decor or painted furniture.  It has to do with me and a constant struggle I’ve had since middle school.  This post is about food, body image, addiction and cravings.  It’s going to be real and honest.  I’m going to lay it all out there, knowing that a lot of you can relate. Soooo…this would be a long story, but I’ve told parts of it before.  Of course, I gained weight after having two babies 19 months apart.  And then I lost 35 lbs.  And I put it back on.  And I lost some of it again.  And I put some of it back on.  I’m a classic yo-yoer.  I’m an “I’ll start on Monday”er.  I have every good excuse in the book as to why I should eat something or shouldn’t exercise at any

Decor Steals Black Friday Giveaway

You’ve been hearing about Decor Steals on my blog for a few years now.  In fact, this Friday is their 5th anniversary!   They’ve come a long way in 5 years, haven’t they?  Working with them has gone beyond the usual blogger/sponsor relationship.  I was fortunate enough to meet the girls behind Decor Steals in person and get to know them over the years.  They have always been so supportive and encouraging to me, so it’s an honor to help them celebrate the five year mark. In order to celebrate, they are having several giveaways and they have brought back a few of their best sellers… …the now-famous cow head that I hung in my kitchen and put a wreath around her neck… …reproduction grain sack fabric… …and a few others like this green tote… …ceramic blue & white knobs (you know I love these!)… …and a rolling cart inspired

glittered house & deer

Now that the floor sanding is behind us, I cannot wait to start decorating the house for Christmas.  I walked past live wreaths, garland, trim and tabletop trees at the store this week and was just longing to put one in my cart, but I’m waiting until Thanksgiving passes.  I don’t want my live greens to be dried to a crisp by the time Christmas morning rolls around!  I’ve been satisfying the craving with Pinterest, holiday magazines and some Christmas tunes.  I also started on a few projects, like the upholstered Christmas banner and the mason jar snow globes.  I also whipped out the MMS German Glass Glitter to use on a few things… I found this plastic deer at an antique store for $5.00 and knew it would look amazing glittered. It actually looked pretty as is, but you know how I am.  Can’t leave well enough alone! I brushed it

mason jar "snow globes"

I have to start off by saying how much I enjoyed reading all of the comments in response to my post yesterday.  In a way, it was very therapeutic for me to write and I’m glad it was encouraging to others as well. This is definitely one of those not-new-at-all ideas, but they are so cute that I thought I would make a few mason jar “snow globes”.  Kriste is the one who introduced me to them and she pointed me in the right direction when it came to picking out cute things to put inside the jars… I found most of the items, as well as the jars, on Etsy and at antique stores.  We found a few of the bottle brush trees at Hobby Lobby.  At first, I was a little perplexed at how to fill the jars and Kriste got a good laugh at me.  Just give me a
