a mirror, new plants & a sneak peek

When I was shopping for the Lucketts Spring Market, I found this amazing mirror at a nice price.  I think it was about $20.  I was planning to sell it, but I was just so smitten with it that I decided to keep it.  I didn’t know where I was going to put it, so I was breaking my own “rule”, but I figured I could sell it down the road if I couldn’t find a perfect spot for it.  I at least wanted to give it a try. I forgot about it after Lucketts, but brought it home during the photo shoot a few weeks ago.  The stylist asked if I had anything large to hang on the wall and this mirror came to mind.  We didn’t end up using it for the shoot, but it reminded me that I wanted to find a home for it. I decided

Lucketts 2015 | more finds

I shared a few of my Lucketts finds yesterday and thought I would share the other two today. So, it’s Sunday afternoon at the market and things are a little slow.  I had spent most of the day rearranging furniture as things sold and as sprinkles came and went.  The rest of the time, I was hanging out in a folding chair or behind the counter.  I finally wanted to take a stroll around with some pocket money to see if I could find any bargains.  I already had my patio set and some ironstone, so I was just looking for small things that “spoke to me.”  Kriste, Jeff and I headed down to a tent we hadn’t been to, but I bought an architectural blueprint from last year, so I know the vender usually has some cool things.  We were chatting with the vendor and a tall, steel rack

Lucketts Finds 2015

Between the heat and humidity, bruises and goose-eggs from moving furniture, early mornings, and take-out and fair food, my body was crying out for rest, healthy food and a bit of pampering.  I’m finally starting to feel a bit more like myself this afternoon.  I slept in, spent the morning unapologetically binge-watching Masterpiece Classics, ate mixed veggies and baked chicken for dinner and even soaked in a lavender epsom salt bath.  I could probably spend a few more days like this, but there are deadlines and things to be done, so Kriste and I are back in the studio tomorrow. We literally dumped everything from Lucketts on the studio floor.  The things that didn’t sell and the boxes, bags, tents, tarps…it’s all haphazardly cluttering up our creative space, so we need to get things sorted and organized.  I also want to inventory what’s left, so we can put it up for sale. Since I’ve

a sea of furniture & 500+ pieces of ironstone

Some of you have noticed and commented that I have been sharing a lot of furniture pieces that I’m going to be taking to Lucketts and you’re right.  Last year, I brought about 12 large painted pieces to sell (dressers, cabinets, tables, etc.).  This year, we’re at about 25 and that’s not even including all of the chairs and benches, which are pretty large in number, too. The studio has been flooded with a sea of furniture… And, on top of all of the furniture, we’ve been shopping about once a week to find lots of ironstone and other smalls to sell.  We packed up the ironstone earlier this week and it took three of us several hours to get it all packed.  Kriste and I estimate that we have over 500 pieces of ironstone.  And that’s probably a conservative guess. We have stacks and stacks of plates, bowls and platters.  We

bHome, a desk & the most awesome typewriter ever

Before I get to the desk and the typewriter, I wanted to share a home & garden community app that my blog is a part of.  It’s called bHome and is a great way to connect with some amazing bloggers.  It not only grabs our blog feeds, but it also shares our most recent social media posts, so you can get the full picture of everything we share.  It’s really pretty cool how it gathers posts and pictures from across different platforms. The bHome app is free and you can get it for your smart phone or tablet HERE. Today, Kriste and I started working around the studio, pricing pieces and adding them to the unorganized pile of things to take to Lucketts.  We both have a hard time creating when things get too messy and out of control and things were definitely getting out of control.  We had an

primitive hutch makeover

Last week was a busy one and we got a ton of things accomplished.  I’m a bit whipped from it and I need to pace myself better, but it feels good to be really productive. Here’s one of the pieces I picked up and painted this week… I spotted it on Craig’s List and immediately texted my dad to see if he could get it for me. I have been looking for a great hutch or cabinet that could be a focal point of my booth at Lucketts and I knew this one was perfect for that.  It reminds me a lot of the hutch I use in the studio… I love how that one turned out, so I painted it the same way…MMSMP Mora on the inside and Shutter Gray on the outside.  Here is a video showing how I prepped the piece and applied the first coat of paint…

furniture finds

I’ve been on the hunt for furniture to start working on for the Lucketts Spring Market in May.  Every year, I put pressure on myself to best what I did the year before.  Well, last year was pretty awesome, so I don’t know if I’m going to beat it, but I at least want to match it. I’ve been shopping at some used furniture stores and on Craig’s List and have found some really great things so far… I wanted this pair of French bergere chairs in the worst way!  My dad drove into Virginia to get them for me and, as it turns out, I bought them from a blog reader and Lucketts shopper!  She had even talked to me about these chairs last year.  She decided they were too much for her to tackle and I happened to be the one to pick them up off of Craig’s
