leather boots & linen aprons

If you’re observant, you may notice I have a favorite pair of boots.  They are my go-to for events, photo-shoots, videos, church, tooling around, etc.  Basically any time I need to wear “real clothes”. They are the Deerfield boots from LL Bean and Jeff bought them for me for Christmas a few years ago.  They don’t carry the exact style any longer, but they offer a few that are similar.  Anyway, they are comfy and they just get better with age. I honestly don’t mind that they are scuffed and wrinkled, but I figured they could use a little TLC. Kriste wrote a post for the MMSMP blog about hydrating and polishing her leather booths with our Hemp Oil and 100% Beeswax Finish.  Her boots looked amazing and I happened to have both products on hand (duh), so I tried it on my favorite boots. Believe it or not, I

fancy little flea

I can’t believe I haven’t share about the Fancy Little Flea, yet!  I just got busy with other things, but I have to circle back and share about this event.  It was a small market put on by Stephanie Jones of Me & Mrs Jones in Germantown, TN (near Memphis). The venue was absolutely adorable.  Little barns and gardens, beautifully maintained. The community, including the man who made the park what it is, came out to support Stephanie and the event. I was there with my good friend, Shaunna, to teach a MMS Milk Paint demo and host a “chat” about running a creative business. For the demo, Stephanie hauled an empire dresser OFF OF THE CURB for us to paint!  Shaunna and I took turns painting and talking through the process of prepping, painting, and finishing a piece of furniture. I’m so glad we were able to do it together, because

January Favorites

I’ve been thinking about sharing a “favorites” post each month for a while now and finally decided to actually do it!  There are so many times when I find a show, a website, an Etsy shop, a beauty product, an Instagram account, etc. that I am smitten with and I want to share them with others.  So, I’m going to *try* to do it each month, collecting things that are my favorites along the way. And I hope you find some new-to-you things that you enjoy! Self Care I go through spurts with this… I really try to go beyond my daily routine and find products that will make me feel pampered.  I had some gift cards from Christmas and I recently took a trip to Sephora, so I have found some new favorites in the self-care department… My sister-in-law introduced me to  hair products over Christmas.  Her hair looked shinier

Christmas 2016 recap

For the second year in a row, I actually took a break over the Christmas holidays.  I did some inbox maintenance and spent a little time on business stuff here and there, but I didn’t write any blog posts and I didn’t work at the studio.  I was even pretty quiet on social media. I spent a lot of time, like entire days, in my jammies.  I played video games and board games with Jeff and the boys.  I watched TV at night without a computer in my lap.  I was a general unproductive loaf, which is not usually my style, but it was welcome and needed. Unfortunately, I seem to be coming down with a cold or something, so I’m not feeling ready to hit my stride at full speed just yet, but it’s time to start at least heading in that direction. Before I get into my plans, changes, ideas, and

Christmas Song 2016 | Born is the King (It’s Christmas)

It’s become a tradition here on the Miss Mustard Seed blog to share a Christmas song.  It started with me sneaking into another room and playing a song on the guitar with a camera propped on a chair.  One year, Jeff and I did a duet, written by a friend of ours.  Last year, I extended a last minute invitation to my family and Kriste & her husband to join in and we recorded Oh, What a Glorious Night. It was so much fun, that we decided to do it again. I picked out the song in November, though, so we were all able to actually practice before hand.  My brother, who owns a recording studio, was also able to bring some better recording equipment. We introduced some new instruments this year, too.  My mom played a toy xylophone last year, but we needed a real one for all of

marinated skirt steak recipe & an All-Clad giveaway

The pot rack in my kitchen might be the one thing in my house that we installed a week after we moved in 10 years ago and hasn’t moved an inch.  It’s never even been under threat of being moved.  I love, love, love my pot rack.  That’s an odd thing for me, because it’s not an antique, but it is so functional and I honestly like having all of my pretty pans and copper pots on display.  Yes, we’re here to talk about All-Clad pans, but I’m also here to share a marinated skirt steak recipe. And yes, I use my pans.  Not all of them, but I use most of them. Most of the pans I’ve picked up here and there at discount stores and even yard sales.  (I bought that gorgeous antique copper bunt pan from a German woman at a yard sale in Florida for $25.)

Thank you, New England…

I’m still in Massachusetts as I write this, but I’m hanging out in a hotel room and wanted to share how my trip has been going so far. First of all, I just love New England!  I felt that way when we came up here on a family trip to Maine and I feel even more so now.  I love the architecture and little towns and the brilliant fall colors and the history. So, my trip started with a short flight on a beautiful day.  I usually pull out my computer and watch a movie or work offline on some e-mail, editing, or writing, but I just sat in my seat, listened to music, and looked out the window.  The entire way. I was looking specifically for cities that I recognized and was excited when I had a good view of New York City.  (You can see Manhattan is the
