Grand Opening

Today was the day!  The shop in Walkersville, Maryland had its grand opening and it was a great success! Here are some of the vendors… From left to right: meet Gail, Lynette, Christine, and me.  Lynette, the woman with the dream, is so talented, has great taste, great ideas, and is a delightful person as the cherry on top (and just to be an over-achiever, she looks cute in skinny jeans!) This space started out as measured out “booths”, but before the shop even opened, it was very clear that things would work better if our stuff mingled.  My vintage industrial chair paired with a more feminine desk owned by another vendor.  Lynette paired things together artfully and it gives this shop a cohesive look.  So, I’ll stop with the narrative and let you enjoy the pictures.  It was a wonderful day.  We sold a ton of furniture, which has us

The Chair and the Box

I was able to fit in one last makeover before moving into the shop tomorrow.  Remember this chair that I bought at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago?  It was sturdy and had a pretty shape, but the blonde finish and the blue vinyl seat cover wasn’t doing this piece justice.  (Nothing against blondes…I am one!)  I primed it, painted it in an “oops” blue, sanded and applied an antique glaze.  I then recovered the seat in a cream matlasse fabric.  I loooove how this chair turned out.  It looks so pretty in so many places in my home, but I’m going to let it go.  Such is my life… I was expecting a very special package today.  This morning, my 3 1/2 year old son, who has K-9 hearing, stopped what he was doing and looked up at me with excitement.  “There’s someone at the door!”  I didn’t hear anything.

Guestroom Updates

First of all, today I have the priveledge of being a guest on Chic Modern Vintage, so make sure you visit! I sold enough things out of my guestroom that it was really time to give it some attention.  I sold almost everything on the walls and the chair in the corner.  It was looking sad and bare.  I was playing with it yesterday and this is what I came up with.  The picture above is how it looks now.  I sold the chalkboard and the “Gasthaus” sign and replaced them with an antique equestrian print and some framed vintage lacework.  The candle sconces didn’t work with the prints, so I replaced those with my $.10 (yes, a dime each) ironstone plates. I sold the chair in the corner… …and replaced it with my new yard sale French chair.  The upholstery doesn’t look half bad in this room, but I’m

Moving Day

I moved into the shop today!  Well, sort of.  (Warning: There was a light breeze blowing during the filming of this and one piece of my hair kept standing straight on end.  I can hardly watch this video with cracking up at it.  My hubby didn’t bother telling me that I was having an Alfalfa moment.  Thanks, dear.) For those who can’t see the video, here are some pictures.  (Minus the Alfalfa doo.) The outside of the shop is going to look so charming once it’s had some minor cosmetic work and has some cute things sitting out, inviting those who stroll by to come inside for more.  This morning, all of my stuff was piled in the car and I was ready to get settled into my new space… …but, there was this… …and this… so I did this… …and put a plastic sheet over the whole thing.  It

What’s Around the Corner

I am waiting for things to slow down, so I can work on some tutorials to share with you, but things keep popping up!  It’s all good stuff…people want custom pieces, want to buy stuff out of my house, I’m moving into a new shop space this week…and the list goes on.  I owe you some good tutorials, so they will come shortly.  Until then, here are some sneak peeks at what is coming up. These pictures are from one of my “photo shoots” for my HGTV.com tutorials.  I live in orchard country, so I had a great time hitting up some local fruit markets for pretty produce and flowers. These miniature pears were my favorite.  You’ll have to wait a few more weeks to see what the projects and tutorials are all about.  I’ll definitely be posting a link, though! This is the French style dresser I picked up at a yard sale this weekend.

Holes in my House

This was what my guest room looked like about three weeks ago… Now?  Something is missing.  Well, quite a few things, actually.  The chair, the Gausthaus sign that was above the bed and the crib rail that my antique dresses were hanging from.  I sold them all (well, the crib didn’t sell, yet, but it’s on the way to my new booth.) Instead of a mirror and sheet music wreath over my sofa… There’s a big white wall with a few nails sticking out (and I need to sew my curtains and make a cover for that pillow form!) And I am no longer greeted by the table I stripped, refinished, and painted… …now there’s just a clock.  So, I’ve got some holes to fill!  Time to play some “musical furniture”, but that will have to wait a while.  I have a list of client projects that runs over a page

HGTV.com and an SOS

I have some very exciting news to share.  A few weeks ago, I was asked to write some tutorials for HGTV.com.  ME!  Little ole me!  I’ve been an HGTV junkie for years, so when I received an e-mail from them, I could hardly contain myself.  My first articles will be posted in a few weeks and I will definitely share the links.  So, while I’m offering design ideas on HGTV.com, I’m also sending out an SOS to True Value Hardware.  I entered my 1940’s bathroom in their contest to win $2500 to makeover the space.  You can check out my entry here or view the video below.  My two-year-old flushed the toilet while I was making the video and I just had to keep that in the edit. Oh, I really hope I win.  This bathroom could be gorgeous with that money.    Anyway, I’m heading out to an awesome community yard sale tomorrow morning
