Miscellaneus

I’m ready for my closeup!

You may think, “Miss Mustard Seed hasn’t posted since Lucketts.  She must be getting some rest.”  And you would think you were right, but you’re not.  I’ve been cleaning my house, sewing cushion covers for a special project, and pulling my hair out trying to get some of the Lucketts video to work for you.  My camera doesn’t like Vista, my laptop needs a four prong firewire cable and Staples only has a nine, I don’t have codecs on my computer and couldn’t find the right ones to download.  I’m ready to pull my hair out.  It’s almost 11:00 pm, but we hung in there and got it to work. So, at long last, here is the first installment of my Lucketts video.  It’s about 12 minutes, so hang in there with me.  Get a beverage and a snack and enjoy the show!

A Quick Update

Well, girls, Lucketts Day One was a banner day.  I sold so much stuff that I had to shop my house for more merchandise.  Some of it is going to hurt. See below.  Sniff.  In addition, I’m bringing my large sheet music wreath, hall table, a caned seat bench, a feed sack upholstered bench, the slipcovered chair from my guest room, mirror from my living room, my antique iron crib, and more.  Thanks so much to all of the girls who came out to meet me.  I’ve been making a Lucketts video and I can’t wait to get it up on the blog, so the rest of you can “join me” on the journey.  I’m sunburned, tired, and my brain is mush, so I’m off to bed.

Lucketts Love Seat & Something’s Missing

As most of you know, I’ve been working like a maniac to get as much done for Lucketts as I possibly can.  It’s next weekend and the anticipation (and pile of stuff) is building.  This is the latest addition. This is how this love seat looks underneath the slipcover.  It reminds me of something that would furnish a dentist’s waiting room.  You know that textured pastel wallpaper that is in almost every doctor/dentist office?  Yeah…this looks like that.  The curvy French Provincial shape was perfect, though.  I made the slipcover out of bleached drop cloths and used some grosgrain ribbon to tie it onto the wood frame.  I love how it turned out and how it looks with my feed sack pillows.  I found this folding camping table in my grandparent’s attic and painted it in a soft, distressed gray.  I purchased the balance scale at a yard sale this morning.  This

A few more things…

So, are you sick of seeing all of the things I’ve been working on to take to the Lucketts Fair?  If so, you may want to stop reading my blog for a couple of weeks, because that’s all that’s happening around here, lately. Anyway, I found this…trophy?  Urn?  Thingy with a bird on top?  …at the jack pot yard sale last Saturday.  It’s hard to say how much I paid for it, because I bought everything in one big heap.  This is an aluminum piece and was in sad shape, but I love the lines of this piece, so I took a chance on it.  A layer of silver leaf and some antiquing glaze gave it a new lease on life.  Isn’t this bird on the lid so sweet? I also cleaned and painted this shutter in a “chippy” blue/grey and hung a moss wreath from upholstery webbing on it.

A Big Day

Today is a big day for me and my blog, but before I tell you why, I want to share what some of my blog friends are up to and how you can get involved in the fun.  There is an upcoming party event that will be taking place next month.  It is a Gorilla Glue Party event that is running in addition to their regular parties and will run Sept 9th through Sept 30th over at the The DIY Club.  (I actually just used some Gorilla Glue today to turn vintage clip-on earrings into clip magnets.)  If you have not visited the DIY Club, you are missing out on great inspiration and a chance to win some killer prizes. The giveaway for August was worth over $500!  The theme of the upcoming GORILLA GLUE party is: Something OLDSomething NEWGrab the CREW (Yeah, get the family involved)And the GORILLA GLUE Head over to

Painted Pail

My hubby gave me a wonderful gift yesterday – the afternoon off.  This meant that he took care of the house and the kids and I could do whatever I wanted.  So, I took an hour nap…glorious!  And then I got down to business.  I did an amazing amount of work in the time that was given to me.  I finished a dresser, stained a door, sanded and stained an oar, hosed down some crates, and painted this galvanized pail.  I’ve have been working at such a frantic pace, that I have stunk at taking “before” and “during” pictures.  This started out as a plain and ordinary galvanized pail that I purchased from an antique store.  I tested out some new techniques on this one and I love how it turned out, so I’m going to make some more and I’ll write a step-by-step tutorial for those who like this look.  For

Gearing up!

I am working like mad at the moment to get everything ready for the Lucketts Fair at the end of August and some sales that are coming up at the shop.  In the last two days I have painted three frames, made three pillows, painted a bench, primed a dresser, table, and chair, stained an arm chair, and…I’m sure I’m missing something else in there.  It’s crazy, I tell you.  So, here are a few things I’ve finished… I painted and antiqued this ornate frame and then filled it with a chalkboard. I love how this finish turned out. …and I made another blue and white feed sack pillow… …and a Funk’s Hybrid pillow.  This is a shot of the back.  I thought of my friend, Funky Junk Donna, the entire time I worked on this.  I think this feed sack is so quirky.  On another note, I sold my “Gasthaus” sign.
