Dear Lillie Giveaway

The minute I landed at Dear Lillie I knew I had found a kindred spirit in Jennifer. I love her photography, style and her shop.  She’s an all around classy gal with a lovely family and an inspiring blog and business.  I’m really honored to have her as a sponsor and blog buddy.  So, now that I’ve gushed all over her (all true, mind you), I have a treat…     Jennifer is offering up a pair of her Silent Night, Holy Night pillow cases as a giveaway for one lucky reader.   I love the classic, quiet look of them and the scrolly script.  I also like that you can bring some Christmas to your decor and it’s not red and green and snowmen and santas and all in your face. The Dear Lille Shop sells a lot of other goodies including tutus (almost makes me wish I had a

family room curtains

After having a bolt of fabric sitting in my family room since this summer, it was finally time to turn it into what it was meant to be – curtains for my family room.  I don’t enjoy sewing, but I do it because I can make curtains better than ones I can buy at the store (and for a LOT less money.)  If I wanted to purchase long, full curtains that were exactly what I wanted (for all four windows), I would spend hundreds of dollars.  Instead, I spent about $22/panel. I made them the same way I made the panels in my living & dining rooms.  I used the same aesthtic idea as well…use a bold, blue & white fabric to set off everything else and make the room pop.  The fabric is from Fabric.com.  It’s now $8.98/yard, but when I bought it, it was $6.98/yard and I used

Miss Mustard Seed’s Wuslu Pick of the Month & Giveaway!

It’s that time again! Once a month, I get to scour wholesale catalogs and pick out something that is my very favorite. Wuslu then sends me one and makes it their featured deal of the day. When I spotted this chippy pie safe I knew that was “the pick.”  It reminded me of one I’ve been oogling over at an antique mall, but I never bought it because it was too expensive and pretty rickety.  I love the grass-green color, the authentic-looking chippy paint and the potential…oh, the potential of this piece.  It can sit on a counter or buffet or it can be hung on the wall.  Of course, it would look fabulous in a kitchen or dining room, but I think mine is going to end up in my half bath.  The pop of color and worn finish will look great against the bright white bead board.  Just

FFF

Welome to FFF on the new blog.  I’m assuming it’s all going to happen without a hitch…fingers crossed. Here are some favorites from last week… I absolutely adore this bench painted by Kim from Savvy Southern Style.  The lines, the caning, oh…those legs.  Just stunning. Whitney and Dustin from The Rooster & the Hen show their resourcefulness with a whitewashed pallet headboard.  It looks so fabulous, it’ll have you looking at any blank wall in your house… Gina from Shabby Creek Cottage took the plunge into the upholstery world and turned a $2.50 chair into this cutie.  Awesome job, Gina.   Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite

a clipper & a photo shoot

Some of you may have seen on the news that we’re expecting quite the snow storm today. In OCTOBER. In PENNSYLVANIA! Now, if you’re in Colorado or somewhere like that, you may be rolling your eyes, becuase you just had a foot of snow and that’s totally normal. But it’s not normal in PA to get 5-9″ of snow in October. I have mixed feelings, because I love snow, but it is putting a cramp in my plans a bit. At least the ground is warm, so the roads won’t be bad. Yesterday was all about photo shoots. I had three on my to-do list…one of them was for HGTV.com and another was for Cottages and Bungalows. Here’s a peek at that one… This may be my favorite shoot for them so far. The farm table from October is a very close second, though. I usually use my dining room for

Silhouette Cameo Review & Promo

My blog is a lot of work, but there are some really sweet perks.   My home is my hobby and my business, I have been able to meet some lovely ladies through this community, it’s been great exposure that has brought along amazing opportunities AND I get to test out very cool products.  Enter the Cameo, Silhouette’s newest electronic cutting tool. I knew I wanted to make something custom, so I decided to test it out by putting my logo on a pillow to use in my office (which is a total mess again due to the open house!) I’m going to state right off the bat that I really love this machine.  I have been a Cricut owner for a few years and I always felt so restricted by all of the cartridges (not to mention how expensive they are.)  I was pretty bummed that I couldn’t make anything

Haven Conference Updates

If you’ve been hanging around the DIY blog world for a few months, you may have heard whispers about the Haven Conference.  Well, it’s true.  We’re having our very own conference…just for DIY/Home bloggers and readers.  It’s going to be an amazing event and I wanted to give you an update on some of the things we’ve lined up.  First of all, we have some amazing sponsors who have signed on, including…  That’s right.  The Home Depot!  MinWax, Rustoleum and, one of my sponsors, Royal Design Studio, have also joined in on this event.  We have others who are working out the details and will be signing on soon, so this is going to be big.  We have also brought on our keynote speakers, John and Sherri from Young House Love!  (I can’t wait to meet them and see what kind of wisdom they have to share.)  The courses we’re offering are shaping

a day in the life

I awoke about 7:00 this morning to my oldest son asking me to make him an apple pie.  He had come down to our room in the wee hours of the morning with a fever, but he was trying to convince me that he could go to school anyway.  I put the kibosh on that and tried to persuade him that a relaxing morning and the promise of apple pie would make this “sick day” a nice day.  With both boys fixed up with some Cheerios and chocolate milk, I turned on my laptop to check my e-mail.  I admit, at this point I grabbed a small handful of Raisinets.  They are my favorite and I crave chocolate in the moring and they were calling to me from the pantry.  An e-mail from my mom pointed out a typo in yesterdays post.  I logged on, fixed that and read through
