HGTV.com Tutorials

Some of the HGTV.com articles I wrote back when I was working on my kitchen and master bedroom are live now!  Here they are… Add architectural interest to a room with crown molding…    DIY Bolster Pillow…   DIY Butcher Block Counter Top… Milk Paint Night Stands… Starched Fabric Feature Wall… I was visiting the site to get the links for this post and saw this on their home page… At first I thought, “Oh!  I need to set up my DVR to record that!”  Then, I noticed the thumbnails below.  “Hey!  That’s my bedroom!  And THAT’S my bedroom, too!”  I still dork out at stuff like that and I hope I always will.   I even called my husband over to show him.  “See, that’s Vern and Genevieve…and that’s ME!”  Well, my bedroom, but still. Anyway, I’ll let you know when others are available including the custom shams, French

Master Bathroom & About My Upholstery Skills

Now that Lucketts has past, I’m turning some attention to my next round of freelance projects, which includes giving my master bathroom a makeover.  (Insert girly squeal that occurs when makeovers are on the horizon.) So, this is the direction I’m heading…   It’s right off of the bedroom, so I want it to flow with what I have going on in there…   Here are some pictures of my bathroom that I dug up from the archives.  It basically looks the same today, except I changed the wall color and the mirror.  Sorry for the crummy photos.   Would you believe I have never painted that vanity or even replaced the knobs?!  I know…so unlike me!  I have basically written this room off.  It’s not worth trying to work around the almond fixtures, pinkish linoleum and things that are fine, but just not me. Since the bathroom is small (one sink,

THE chair and letting go

If you followed my Lucketts preparations, you know that I made a last minute decision to sell THE chair.  Kristi, one of my readers and a shopper at Lucketts this year, was hoping the channel back chair I kept mentioning in my posts looked similar to THE chair.  When she saw it was upholstered in plain grain sacks, she mentioned being interested in a wing chair with blue, striped grain sacks similar to THE chair.  Hmmm…  That got my wheels turning. I didn’t have the time to find and upholster a chair before Lucketts.  Would I be okay with selling THE chair?  Not a similar one, but the actual one? I walked into the living room and looked over THE chair.  I imagined not having it.  I imagined the thrill of finding something that worked just as well or even better in that space.  I imagined how neat it would

Lucketts 2013 Day Two Recap

Day one of Lucketts is all hustle and bustle.  Day two is much more relaxed.  It was still the busiest day two I’ve experienced in my Lucketts fair career, but it wasn’t anything like the Saturday craziness. I actually had a chance to stage my space and take some pictures before the gates opened… …and I had more time to spend with people who came just to say hello.  Lorraine brought me a beautiful ironstone sugar jar with a daisy planted inside. Does she know me or what? Candace of The Love Tag Shoppe, who had waited in line since 8:00 am Saturday in order to shop, came back for day two to hang out.  (Thanks so much for sharing your pictures, Candace.) I also had a chance to see my dear friend, Funky Junk Donna, in action over at the Hometalk booth next door.  She was teaching how to

Carrying me to the finish line

I feel like I could write for a week straight and still forget to share things I want to share about the time leading up to Lucketts and the event itself.  The recap and tutorials and before & afters and stories and pictures and lessons learned will come…but not in this post. Yes, we had some stinky weather. Despite that, this was my most successful Lucketts Fair ever.  By a lot.  And in more ways than can be kept in a money box and counted at the end of the day. I took enough to Lucketts to fill a 20 ft truck and my van.  I came home with a van load and a few things in the back of a pick up.  I met amazing people, cried with some of them, laughed with others.  It was all amazing and I can’t wait to share more about it. Tonight, though,

A guide to shopping my space at Lucketts…

If this is your first time shopping my space at the Lucketts Antique Market, this post is for you!  If you’re a regular, this will just give you some updates or maybe get you geared up for the event.  I’ve been asked a lot of questions about what to expect from the fair and my booth in particular, so I thought I would share a shopping guide to answer everyone’s questions at one time.  Here we go… THE WHERE For those who have attended before, I’m in the same place I’ve been for the past two years.  If you’re new, I know an overhead view of the event might not help very much, but here it is.  My booth is located in the red circle.  So, I’m located on the gray gravel at the corner of the pea gravel.  If you’re in grass, I’m not there.  If you’re in pea

Joss & Main Curated Event |

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to curate a collection for Joss & Main.  When they recently asked me if I would like to do another one, it was a no-brainer.  YES!  Of Course!  I had such a good time shopping for things that captured my style in order to make them available to my readers.   This collection is still centered around the staples of my look…blue & white, a little farm house, a little French country, a little bit of the rest of Europe thrown in and, of course, everything has a vintage feel. Since I’ve completed a couple of rooms since my last collection, we were able to include finds that would be right at home in my kitchen… (like this preserved boxwood wreath…)     (…and x-back chairs) …and my master bedroom. We were even able to include the exact Park Hill bedding that’s
