Furniture Makeovers

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY | favorites & link party

Good evening, all!  I finally had the chance to do some furniture painting of my own today and I still have a few pieces waiting in the wings, so I enjoyed getting some inspiration while looking through last week’s entries.  There were a lot of good ones!  Here are a few of my favorites… I think Steve and Meg of Furniture-Ology did a remarkable job bringing this desk back to life.  The transformation really is incredible from what it was to this beauty… Angie from Knick of Time worked with her husband to make this cabinet out of new lumber and antique windows.  The styling and the paper wall behind it are perfection. This piece is far from my style, but I think it is amazing.  Martha of Martha Leone Design has a knack for making thrift store/yard sale pieces look modern and like works of art.  The weathered X

the rocking horse – part 2

Here’s what the horse looked like when I received it from Restoration Hardware.  I loved the shape, but the wood and finish didn’t have as much character as I was hoping for.   I wanted it to look more like one of the inspiration antique horses I shared HERE. Well, that’s not a problem in these parts!  So, yesterday I took some time to apply the first coat of paint – MMSMP Trophy.  You can read about it HERE. Yesterday, I was a good blogger and took lots of pictures of the process.  Today, I hauled the horse to the basement and started working and didn’t stop for pictures.  It’s sort of a good thing, because I was in my creative bubble, but it’s not a good thing for blogging!  I’ll try to talk you through the process, though, which was basically paint, sand, paint, sand, paint. Now, I’ll tell

I keep hoping and planning to get back into some sort of schedule or groove, but snow days, cold days, hospital visits, doctor appointments, holidays…all sorts of things have prevented that.  And this week has been the same story.  We had a normal Monday, but then school was cancelled today because of the snow and, as of now, is delayed for tomorrow with the possibility of a closure  Well, it is what it is and we’ll have fun with it.  There will be more games of “Sorry” and more Rainbow Looms and more of finding ways to fill the time if that’s the case. Even though the boys were home today, I had a bit of time here and there to sneak away and do some painting.  I needed that kind of “therapy.”  So, I worked on a small project – my Restoration Hardware horse. It ended up looking too

I can’t express how loved and supported I have felt this week from all of the e-mails and comments you have flooded me with.  It has all meant so much and has encouraged me and made me feel connected with all of you in a way that seems more real somehow.  Like you’re all really out there…not just numbers that add up on the analytics dashboard.  That’s just one of the sweet things that has come out of all of this and it’s really awesome.  Thank you. So, in keeping with trying to get back to normal, I picked some favorites from last week’s FFF.  I can’t tell you how ready I am to get a paint brush in my hand.  I feel like I’ve been planning to paint for weeks and other things keep popping up.  I’m hoping next week will be the week.  That horse is calling my

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY – Favorites & Link Party

Today was an eventful day!  Those who follow me on Facebook may have seen that I posted a bunch of stuff in my online shop today.  I spent almost all day photographing, writing out descriptions and posting items and everything that I listed today sold.  Everything.  Most of it within minutes.  So, that was very exciting, but we were having some technical issues with the online store that made the shopping experience a little frustrating for some, understandably.  I once had a stack of blue and white dishes bought out from under me at a yard sale and it was not one of my finest moments.  I get it and apologize to those of you who missed out on something you really wanted because the system wasn’t cooperating.  My “tech guy”, who is awesome, is working on getting everything fixed and running smoothly. If you missed out on the listings today,

living room sofa makeover

I shared the new arrangement for my living room, but I thought I would share an “official” before and after of the sofa.  The sofa that was in my living room was a lovely piece my aunt let me “borrow long term.”  I slipcovered it in drop cloths and used it for about four years before I gave it back to their side of the family.  It belonged to my uncle’s mother and now that I have a steady stream of furniture coming and going because of my business (and that’s what I do), I offered it back to them and they accepted. So, I was on the hunt for a new sofa for the living room.  Since our TV isn’t in that room and it’s more of a formal space right off the front door, so the sofa can be a “pretty sofa.”  It does need to be comfortable,

Arranging linens, silver and ironstone…

As I was preparing for Christmas day, I realized what a mess the cabinets, drawers and shelves where I keep my tableware, serving pieces and linens were.  After a few years of buying, making and using things for photo shoots and then shoving them in no particular order behind a closed door, it was hard to find anything.  Linens were balled up, unorganized.  Serving pieces were stacked, balanced and piled haphazardly.  It not only looks messy, but it’s very inefficient.  I had to hunt and dig for things. I started purging and organizing this fall and have continued with a drawer here, a cabinet there.  After experiencing the frustration while setting the table for Christmas, I was motivated to deal with it.  I also needed to clean out the hutch in the living room, since a buyer is coming for it on Sunday.  So, I started with the corner cabinets
