painting the last bar stool…finally

Back in June of 2013 I painted the bar stools at my kitchen counter…well, two of them, anyway. I don’t recall why I didn’t get to the third one, but I’m sure I just got busy with other things and the idea of painting one bar stool seemed a bit boring. You can see the stools peeking up over the bar in this picture… I was getting the itch to paint some furniture and finish projects that have been abandoned, so I finally got the chair done. I wanted it to match the other two, obviously, so I painted it in French Enamel. In my photo shoots, I use vintage brushes, ironstone mugs, silver spoons and grain sack fabric as drop cloths, but in reality, I use plastic cups and wooden stir sticks and real drop cloths. FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY |

I enjoyed looking at all of your projects that were linked up last week and I actually got to do some furniture painting myself today! I know I painted a stool just last week, but I painted a few pieces today and it felt good. I’ll share those projects later…tonight it’s about FFF and these were my picks from last week. I love this boy’s bedroom by Dixie Delights. The room is classic, but playful and I love the side by side twin beds with the brass lights. I wish I had enough space for a setup like that! This dining room by Divine Theatre is absolutely gorgeous! Can you get over that chandelier and the French daybed/bench under the window? I couldn’t help but feature it. Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint

Talking about color…

I get a lot of questions about the milk paint colors in my line. There are only 18 of them, but it can still be hard to tell online if a color is the color that’s perfect for your project. Is Typewriter black or charcoal or blue? Is Shutter Gray more blue or more gray? Is Mustard Seed Yellow too mustardy? Or not enough? So, I’ve added some new collages (for most colors) and descriptions to the MMSMP website. And Jeff and I just made this video of me describing the colors in the line to help clear things up even further… Pastel-ish? (Man, I really needed a haircut before that video. FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY |

Well, for those who didn’t guess it, I’ve been hanging out with Shaunna of Perfectly Imperfect for the past few days and it’s turned into a longer trip because of the snow. Our creative brains are sort of fried at this point and we have stayed up way to late, but it’s been a wonderful visit. The friends I’ve made through my blog has been one of the greatest blessings and surprises. So, I’m sorry to say, we’ve been a little too busy for me to sit and pick favorites this week. FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY |

Sorry I’m late tonight! I would love to give some great excuse, but I was browsing Netflix for a movie to watch and I totally lost track of time! It happens. So, here are my favorites from last week. (Actually, I had a lot of favorites, but these were the three I decide to feature.) I love big, antique clock faces in a space, but the real deal can be super expensive, so I love Liz Marie’s DIY version made out of the end of a wooden spool. Very clever! I think this dining room from Far Above Rubies is so beautiful. There’s such a warmth about it. The framed music, the patina of the dark woods, the feminine slipcovers and the cuckoo clock off center…it’s all very inspiring! Lastly, this dresser by Christina of Remodelando la Casa is so pretty. Before and Afters

1/2 Bath Refresh

Well, today was yet another school snow day. It was a really good day, though. The boys played very well together and there was lots of laughing and toys everywhere and imaginative play. In addition to it being a delight to listen to them play, it allowed me to get some things done. I listed some more things in the online shop and packaged up most things that have sold to get ready for our shipping day tomorrow. In addition, I played around in the house a bit. I haven’t touched the half bathroom since I finished it a few years ago and I’ve been thinking it needed a little refresher. I’ve been leaning pictures against the wall in there and planning things out in my head for weeks and I was finally inspired to work on it today. Some days I just need to paint. It’s therapeutic for me and it makes me feel a sense of accomplishment. With a two hour school delay, I didn’t have a lot of time to get things done today, so I picked a small project I’ve been wanting to work on – painting this little stool. It’s in our master bathroom, so I decided to use MMSMP Artissimo. It’s a deep navy blue. A yummy color, in my opinion. Now, I painted a lot of chairs and stools before I realized that I should start with the piece upside down. That eliminates a lot of the awkward reaching and neck strain and paint on your forearms. Maybe you’re smarter than I am and figured that out on your first try! I decided to apply the paint without prepping the piece at all. I had a pretty good feeling it would adhere

Applying Wax to the Rocking Horse – Video Tutorial

Well, we finally got the camera and lights out and started making some video! We shot this one on waxing last week and short some more today on mixing milk paint and the colors in the MMSMP line. I can’t even say how nice it is to have someone working the camera and taking care of the editing for me! Jeff has taken up that role and has been soaking up all he can about using the equipment we have and making quality videos. We both have a lot we still want to learn, but this is our first video together, so if this is our starting point, we feel like we’re going to get to a pretty good place!
