French Daybed Reveal

I apologize for missing FFF last night!  My site was down, which you might have noticed if you were trying to link up.  So, we’ll suspend our furniture link party until after the holidays.  Just save up those furniture projects for a couple of weeks. A few months ago, I bought a caned French daybed from a used furniture shop. I think I paid $175 for it and it was in amazing condition with a full down cushion!  The upholstery wasn’t bad at all, but it was a yellowish-gold with a metallic shimmer to it, which isn’t really my thing.  The cane was all intact and the finish was nice, so I knew I wanted to leave those alone.  I did, however, want to reupholster it. I presented a few fabric options and was planning on going with the plain hemp fabric, but then did a “room reset” and changed

“the sofa” update & explaining my shop

Well, my new sofa was supposed to be delivered tomorrow.  I received a call from Pottery Barn today to get my “delivery time window.”  I answered the phone with bubbly anticipation.  Will it come early?  Will I have to wait all day?  Instead of getting a time frame, I received the disappointing news that they had overbooked the route for tomorrow, so they couldn’t deliver it.  Bummer.  Okay, well, when can it be delivered?  It seems they only deliver to my area on Wednesdays.  It quickly hit me that next Wednesday is Christmas and the following Wednesday is New Years.  I’m not going to get my new sofa for at least three weeks.  It’s not a big deal, but I gave away our sofa yesterday and we’re hosting Christmas this year.  I took a moment to remind myself that it’s a small thing.  Some people have to go through the

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY – Favorites & Link Party

I actually have my act together tonight and was able to look through the links from last week’s FFF and picked some favorites.  Since there are so many I liked, I shared some on my FFF and MMSMP pinboards.  Click the links if you want to follow along!  So, without delay, here are my favorites… The festive nature of this piece by Lily Field Furniture immediately caught my eye.  The color is so rich and pretty and I love the little surprise of the white inside the desk.  Beautiful piece! I love creativity when it comes to repurposing forlorn pieces of furniture.  Kammy from Kammy’s Corner turned some orphaned drawers into under-the-bed storage by adding castors.  Very clever! As I was picking favorites, I could hardly ignore this gorgeous buffet (and the ironstone!)  This oak buffet was given a fresh coat of paint by Quandie from Q is for Quandie

Boxwood & My Christmas Tree

I just did a photo shoot today for the MMSMP color of the month, Boxwood, so I thought I would share.  I think this may be my favorite non-blue/gray color in the line.  It’s so rich and pretty.  I’ve sold all of the pieces I’ve painted in Boxwood, but I have a dresser in my son’s room that is just begging for it.  I was hoping to get to that this month, since it is the color of the month, but with slipcovers and upholstering and decorating for Christmas and the family room trim and all of that, I think it’ll have to wait.  Anyway, here are some pictures to give you a good sense of the color… Can you tell I enjoy these shoots?  I really do.  I think the photography/styling aspect of my job has become one of my favorite things to work on.  If you want to

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY – Favorites & Link Party

Well, I had to take one of my boys to the emergency room to have stitches removed (the follow-up of an accident involving his brother, a flashlight and his lip), helped with homework, made dinner, went to play practice, got the boys in bed, finally ate dinner myself and plopped on the couch to watch the Sound of Music on TV and totally missed the boat on picking favorites for FFF this week.  Sorry about that!!  I’ll be on top of things next week.  🙂 Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. “fixing” a broken cane seat

I finished painting, staining and slip covering the four Craig’s List chairs for the dining room a fewweeks ago and have been on the hunt for chairs to use for the ends of the table.  As it happens, I’ve had two other French cane chairs that are almost identical to the Craig’s List ones in my basement stash.  I bought them at Lucketts for $50/each, but haven’t been excited to work on them.  The seats on both of them are broken and I wasn’t sure how to deal with that.  The caning isn’t in sheets, but hand done, so I wasn’t about to try repairing the cane!  So, they’ve been sitting in my basement for over two years.  The ones I bought off Craig’s List had pretty good seats, but at some point, an upholstered seat was made for them, so I used that as my inspiration for “fixing” these
