Furniture Feature Friday – Oh, The Wonderful Things That White Can Do!

Welcome to my second Furniture Feature Friday! Remember I’ll have my very first linky party next week, so get your posts ready! For this week I found a wonderful makeover to inspire you. We all have seen those gargantuan 1970’s china cabinets in thrift stores and on Craig’s List for next to nothing. I am pretty brave with the furniture I buy to redo, but I’ve never had the guts to take on one of those. They are huge, heavy, often times have weird hardware and dated details. I now see that I was a fool. Do you see what I mean? The Enchantresses Three saw the potential in this old china cabinet that was purchased off Craig’s List for a song and, boy, did that vision pay off! 2 Tiered Side Table Revealed

Before I get into the makeover, I just have to let all of you know how much I enjoy watching my followers grow! When I first started I thought people who had a couple hundred followers probably didn’t care when they got new ones. I still check my blog eagerly when I have a few minutes to see if anyone new has joined the ranks. I visit all of the sites and really enjoy the inspiration I’ve received from you. Thanks! My Desk – Revealed!

My desk is finally done! This is how it started. It was a very pretty desk (actually a vanity), but it had been poorly treated. It had a huge mirror, but the frame looked like it had been eaten by a rodent of some sort…seriously. The finish was marred and someone thought it would look cuter with stickers on the drawers. I removed the mirror (saved the mirror and pitched the frame), because I thought it looked a little masculine to be a vanity, anyway. I paid $50.00 for it at Goodwill. A little on the high side, but it’s a great piece. So, here’s how it looks now! I sprayed the brass hardware with Krylon’s Oil Rubbed Bronze, finished in the top in Dark Walnut with a Wipe-On Poly finish, and painted the body of the desk in Creamy by Sherwin Williams. I love the way it turned out!

French Style Table Revealed!

I received another award! This one was the Honest Scrap award from Frippery. I received this a few weeks ago from another blogger, but that doesn’t make this one any less special. Thanks! You can click here to see my answers and learn a little bit more about me. Also, excuse my blog as I undergo some design changes. Here is the pretty marble-topped table I gave you a sneak peak of last night. I found this on Craig’s List for $20.00. The top is solid (and I mean solid) marble and it was in great condition. It was just a little tired… Here’s the before (with the top off.) The finish had seen better days and it was a little dated. I sanded, applied Gloss-Off, primed, and painted the piece with 2 coats of semi-gloss Pro-Classic paint from Sherwin Williams. Check out my furniture painting tutorial for the details.

Welcome to the very first Furniture Feature Friday!

Welcome to the very first Furniture Feature Friday at Mustard Seed Creations! This is going to be a weekly event featuring my favorite furniture makeovers from your blogs. In a couple of weeks we’ll add a link party, so everyone can share their makeovers. I can’t wait! I get giddy over furniture makeovers! I have such a treat for you today. If you have not visited Blue Creek Home, you must. I found this gorgeous headboard makeover and had to feature it. It is simply yummy. So, here’s the before picture. Not bad at all, but look at the after… Wow! Isn’t that gorgeous? It’s a subtle makeover, but with a dramatic and beautiful result. Rhonda reupholstered the insert and beefed up the moulding on the top. I believe a good makeover includes knowing what to leave alone. Furniture Stripping Tutorial Table Reveal!

Does anyone remember this table? Does it look a little familiar? Well, how about this one? This was the table featured in my furniture stripping tutorial. Doesn’t it look great? I loved the shape of this table, but the finish…not so much. So, I stripped the thousands of layers of paint off the top, stained it with Min Wax’s Dark Walnut, and two coats of rub on poly. To the base I sanded, primed, and painted it in two coats of Sherwin Williams’ Frost White in a semi-gloss. I finished with a glaze of the Dark Walnut to highlight the details in the piece and take the “newness” off of the white. I love how the stain finds all of the little nooks and crannies. Announcement – Furniture Feature Fridays!

I love before & after pictures, especially of furniture. I have what you might call “lost dog syndrome” for furniture. I’ve been known to make my husband turn the car around, so I can pick up a piece of furniture that’s been discarded on the side of the road. Furniture (most of it) deserves better than that! I must save it and find it a new home. One thing I have loved about blogging is seeing all of the before & after pictures of furniture. I want to celebrate that by hosting Furniture Feature Fridays. At first, I am just going to feature my favorite furniture makeover that I see out in blog land (or you can e-mail me if you’d like to be featured.) Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Crackle

Ok, all of you crackle lovers out there can relax. I actually like and have used crackle. But, I hope we can all agree that crackle in the wrong hands, on the wrong piece of furniture, with the wrong colors can be terrible. I found this vanity at a thrift store sitting outside with a $15 sticker on it. It was in very sturdy condition, had dovetailed drawers, and the cabinets doors worked great. It was just ugly. Someone had done a white and dark blue crackle finish with cheap brass hardware. Now, I recognize that someone put some time into this piece, but it DID end up at a thrift store, so they couldn’t have loved it that much! Anyway, it turned out the vanity was a yard sale leftover and had just been dropped off. It had not been priced by the thrift store (thank goodness), so I
