Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites & a Link Party

Good evening everyone.  Before we get going on our furniture festivities, I want to say thanks for all of your supportive comments on Tuesday’s post.  It really does mean a lot to me to know I have cheerleaders and girls who are going to hold me accountable.  I will definitely keep you updated! Now for FFF.  Here are my favorites from last week… I picked this dresser as a favorite before I saw that it was painted with MMSMP Shutter Gray with Hemp Oil finish on the top.  Seriously.  Mimi of Blue Roof Cabin was dealing with a piece that had chipping veneer, so she just removed it and hand planed the top.  I love the look of the exposed and rustic wood.  It was a big gamble that paid off.   I love this sheet music dresser by Deb from Twice Nice.  She used the sheet music dresser I

Well, today I turned the big three-five.   It was a quiet day that I spent catching up on e-mail and doing a bit more shopping.  I found a bunch of great ironstone…happy birthday, indeed!  🙂  I had a very nice dinner with my husband, parents and in-laws at a beautiful 1776 tavern in Gettysburg called The Dobbin House.  I even got a fudge brownie a la mode with a sparkler on top.  Due to these festivities, I didn’t have a chance to pick favorites for the week.  Sorry!  Maybe I should have a “guest picker” sometime when I’m busy…hmmm…   Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite

What a week!  If you read my blog regularly, you know I’m always up to something, but this week has been back-to-back DIY projects.  Grouting Monday & Tuesday, upholstery Wednesday and working on counter tops today.  I wish they were installed and done, but we made great progress.  We still need to finish cutting the hole for the under-mount sink and then I need to do the sanding and finishing.   On the to-do list for tomorrow?  Halloween costumes.  Seriously.  My editor convinced me to make some kid’s costume tutorials.  I did let her know that my boys wear polyester super hero outfits from Wal-Mart, but she still had faith in me.  So, my intern, Kelly, and I will be having some fun with feathers, felt and tule and will hopefully end up with some cute costumes at the end of the day.  Wish us luck! Anyway, here are the furniture favorites

I’m not a scrooge when it comes to Valentine’s Day, but to me, it’s just overpriced flowers and way too much candy for the kids.  We make a point not to go out to dinner and we don’t exchange gifts or anything.  It did happen to my husband’s day off work, so we spent it shopping at Home Depot and had a nice lunch at Olive Garden.  Works for me. Anyway, here are my favorites from last week. The folks over at Living Vintage built this amazing mudroom that looks delightfully old and worn.   I love that they celebrated the knotty wood and imperfections in the flooring.  I think it looks amazing. There’s a great tutorial on wet sanding over at For the Love of Wood that is definitely worth checking out.  I’ll have to try this technique!  Lastly, I couldn’t help but share this lovely painted pie safe

I was looking through the links from last week and I had the urge to look for French chairs and Empire dressers on craigslist.  I surfed around and found a pretty Empire dresser for a good price about an hour away.  I was asking my husband about the distance for pickup and he leaned into me and said, “Let’s just focus on one thing at a time.”  I’m feeling the itch to paint some furniture, and I’ll get to for some of my tutorials, but I do need to work through those before I can work on getting pieces ready for the Lucketts Antique Market. Anyway, here are some pieces that caught my eye from last week… I think this table by Tiffany of The Crafty Woman is so pretty and clever.  It’s actually pieces of wood cut in a herringbone pattern and stained.  Tedious work, but an awesome result.
