Vignette Party

When I heard about the Vignette Party for Funky Junk Interior’s Saturday Night Special, I could hardly resist participating. I was really looking forward to running around my house with a camera, playing with all of my things, but I have been bed-bound today. I was pleased to find so many vignette pictures in my album already, so I have plenty to share. Some of these pictures are staged to show off my hand painted pieces and some are from around my house. I have two toddlers at the moment, so I have learned to live with clean tabletops and I can’t wait for the time when I can really start decorating below 3 feet again! Here’s my hand painted bread box with my SLAH pedestal (found at a thrift store) and stone fruit collection. The tea towel was a wedding present to my grandparents. This pedestal was a dark

Award & an ER Visit

Well, I’ve been out of commission since late yesterday afternoon with a virus and I just spent the morning in the ER hooked up to an IV. I’m doing better, but, for the first time in years, I am going to spend the day in bed. Unfortunately, we were getting the keys to our new store today, so I missed out on that. And the Pottery Barn inspired nursery mural will have to wait for another day. However, I am feeling well enough to do some blogging! I did get the rare opportunity to take my time to look through my Country Living magazine while I was hooked up to the sweet nectar of life (saline & medicine) and found some very inspirational stuff. Isn’t this vignette gorgeous? And I love that mirror. I’m already trying to think of a way to make my own… I would love a picture

Think Outside the Office Supply Store

I have several projects in the works, but we’ve had terrible weather and nothing is completed to show you! So, I thought I would share my “new” work desk and some of the unconventional storage accessories I use in my home office. For my work desk, I needed a piece of furniture that was long and narrow. I have been looking for a farm table or waiting for my husband to make me one out of reclaimed wood. Last week, , I realized I had totally overlooked an antique drop leaf table that was given to me a few months ago. It’s been sitting in my basement as a catch-all. You can see it here under a mirror and crib springs (I have a plan for those…) All I did was remove the leaves, rub in a dark walnut stain, and applied two coats of wipe-on poly. The wood is

Lovely Little Lamp

I saw this lamp at my neighbor’s yard sale for $3.00 and had to buy it. I just loved the shape of it and the flower-like shade. (As a side note, I bought an absurd amount of stuff at their yard sale. I bought ironstone platters, 2 ironstone wash sets, pocket watches, crates, cheese crocks, old signs…it was ridiculous. All of the money I made at my yard sale went to their yard sale!) Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture (it was pre-blog), but just imagine it in a dull brass finish. I immediately thought it looked like a flower and the “stem” should be painted in shades of green with a creeping vine. And the base was this great lily pad shape. Perfect! I first primed the brass base in a spray primer by Krylon. I then applied the decorative painting in acrylic paints and finished with a

Rainy Days & Sneak Peaks

I took this picture out of my kitchen window and this is what my view has been for 2 days…cold and rainy. Cold and rainy is not good weather for painting. Although I do my spraying in my basement, I have to open my cellar doors for ventilation in my spray booth. So, no painting for me for the past couple of days. I will not leave my readers with nothing, though, so I wanted to give you a sneak peak of some things I primed and show you how my Craig’s List French Provincial dresser is coming along. I purchased this basket at an auction for $1.00. We have a lot of quilts and textiles in our shop and they are currently folded and stacked. For our new shop, I thought some of the lap quilts would look great rolled up in large baskets like this one. It’s a

Ornate Mirror Becomes a Chalkboard

Today is a good day for my little blog. First of all, my Desk Make Over was chosen as a favorite at Kimba’s DIY Day and my post on Rub On Poly & Glazing Techniques was featured at Funky Junk Interior’s Featuring You Series. It is always so encouraging to know that my work, tips, and posts are appreciated! Thank you so much! Here is my newest makeover. This was a very simple one and an example that starting with a great piece makes all the difference. I purchased this mirror a few weeks ago for $5.00 at a thrift store…or was it a yard sale…all of this junking becomes a blur after a while. First of all, it needed a good cleaning. I then removed the mirror from the frame to apply a Spray Primer by Krylon followed by two coats of a White Satin spray. I really liked

Oldies, But Goodies

Ok, so I’ve got nothin‘ for you today. I have a lot of things primed in the spray booth and things that are in the works, so I will have some great after picture for you very soon! Since I didn’t have anything new, I wanted to share a couple of pieces I completed this summer. I’ve received a ton of compliments on this dresser and I received the highest compliment of all – it sold very fast. I purchased this at an auction for $45.00. That’s a little more than I normally pay, but I loved the shape and it was in great condition. It just needed a fresh coat of paint and some new hardware. The decorative painting was inspired by a painted buffet in a magazine ad that I clipped out a few years ago. Unfortunately, I completed this piece pre-blog, so I did not take a
