Before and Afters

glass glitter milk bottles

Before I get into the project, I want to share that Miss Mustard Seed’s Glass Glitter (used in this project) is the Decor Steals daily “steal” today!  They are offering Tiara Silver, Fallen Snow and 14 Karat.  I’ve partnered with them for a long time, so it’s fun to see them carrying a product with my brand on it.  As always, it’s offered at a discounted rate due to their savvy shopping skills, so this is a good time to buy… I’ve been browsing Pinterest a lot over the past few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised to find a lot of glitter projects and products out there.  Hmmm…is glitter trending right now?  Some of the glitter went a bit too far for me, but it was fun to see all of the ideas.  I love glitter, but I prefer it in small doses…as an accent that adds a little sparkle.

german glass glitter letters & giveaway

I have been making German glass glitter letters for years.  See the old school watermark? I was so excited when I finally found German glass glitter and some great chipboard letters in amazing fonts.  I made them for myself in the beginning and then started making them to sell in my retail space and it was a staple for several years. Great chipboard letters have become harder and harder to find, though.  I am hoarding three sets of the original letters I used in the first picture, but otherwise, what I’ve found has been pretty run-of-the-mill.  I thought I found some great ones, but when they arrived, they were different than what was pictured.  Bummer!  So, I’ve been looking for some alternatives and I found a good option… These plastic letters don’t come in the prettiest fonts, but they are simple, cute and already have magnets attached, so it saves some

my favorite pizza | margherita pizza recipe

I’m going to change things up a bit today and share on of my favorite go-to dinner recipes – Margherita pizza.  I’ve shared snapshots of my pizza on Instagram and Facebook and I always get requests for the recipe.  It’s really simple, but here it is…   I became a vegetarian almost two years ago and that changed my regular rotation of dinners.  Pizza, Margherita pizza, specifically, quickly became a favorite for me.  It’s filling, it’s ooey-gooey comfort food and it’s quick.  Now, we’re not talking takeout or freezer pizza.  I know there are good ones out there, but I prefer to make food with fresh, whole ingredients as much as possible.  I think it just tastes better. I’ve tried a lot of variations and this is the recipe I came up with…   Since the ingredients are very simple, it’s important that they are high quality.  Now, I’ve hated

a fresh way to organize

I’ve been working on organization for the past year or two, off and on when I have the time.  And I’ve been getting better and more proficient at decluttering and organizing with every pass.  I started with getting rid of the obvious items.  Then, I took it further and got serious and asked myself why I had certain stuff.  I think I just got used to the things around me, so I didn’t even think it.  But, if I don’t really love it or need it, why is it in my house?  Does it matter how much I paid for it or who gave it to me or how nice of a thing it is?  On a very rare occasion, it does.  Most of the time, though, it only dictates how I get rid of it.  Do I sell or donate the item or try to keep it in the family?  But I’ve

children's book bunting

We launched our line of MMS German Glass Glitter just before Lucketts and, in such a busy time, I didn’t get to announce it until after the fair.  Now that I’ve had the chance to catch my breath and get back into a bit of a routine, I’m ready to start giving you some ideas for how you can use the glitter and showcase the different colors.  Really, it’s simple.  You can use it anywhere you want glitter, but I know some people like a bit more direction than that! Here’s what I came up with today… This project is a good example that a little glitter adds just that extra something and it doesn’t have to be reserved for froo-froo-sparkle-princess projects. I started with a tattered vintage children’s book.  I love the old illustrations and the colors, but the book was in really rough shape with a lot of scribbling,

shopping vicariously in France

When Soft Surroundings reached out to me a few months ago, one thing that attracted me to working with them was the way they developed much of their home decor line.  Robin, the creative brain behind Soft Surroundings, travels to a place that inspires her…  France. This would be such a dream for me, so I found it so enjoyable looking through Robin’s Pinterest board containing photos of her recent trip. Oh my…it looked like so much fun!  The food, the quaint cobblestone streets, the beautiful architecture, the sun-faded colors, the delicious food and the shopping…sigh. Robin does two things while in France – one thing I can’t do from my couch and one thing I can.  The first thing is that she buys pieces to bring back to the US and sell in the Brocante section on the Soft Surroundings site.  Maybe some day… Here’s the part I really like.

award-winning packaging

I have been really blessed in my business to partner with people who are wonderful to work with and also wildly talented.  Sometimes they find me.  Sometimes I find them.  Sometimes we knew each other already and we suddenly realized that working together made sense.  Due to these relationships, I’ve ended up with a business that is exploding and a heart full of gratitude. A few of those partnerships came together and made our Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint packaging award-winning. Jennylyn of Homestead House manufactures and distributes the paint world-wide.  Laura Dreyer, a former student in our youth group, drew the dresser illustration and designed the greenish-blue “wall paper” background used as borders.  Reni of Bliss & Tell Branding Company started with those elements and designed all of the packaging.  Maria of Dreamy Whites styled and photographed the products in the photo above. Because of the work of all of these women, Bliss

Decor Steals Giveaway

It’s that time again!  I’ve been working with Decor Steals for a long time…even before they were even Decor Steals!  So, if you’ve read my blog for a while, you know all about them.  If you haven’t they are a company that offers one home decor “steal” a day and they really do come up with some awesome things, as you’ll see in this post. The steal for today is this wall organizer…good for mail, a small office, etc.   The cubbies are a perfect size for mail and stationary, but will not fit full sheets of paper.  Just an FYI. And there’s a magnetic/chalkboard in the middle and smaller cubbies on the left side.   And, I always give a preview of the steal coming up tomorrow, which is this wall clock… I’m pretty picky about reproduction clocks and I really like this one.  I think I like the
