French Style & a fabric wall

I received an e-mail a few months ago, asking if I would contribute to a new magazine, French Style.  Well, that sounds right up my alley!  Yesterday, I found the magazine in Target and snapped it up. First of all, it really is a beautiful magazine.  I loved looking through it and I felt so proud that I was a small part of it and I was very pleased with how my article and photographs turned out.  I always felt like my pictures in print looked yellowish and not as sharp as the other pictures in the magazine.  I felt like these were my best and that’s a great feeling. You can find the magazine on newsstands now. One of the rooms featured in the article is my master bedroom and the fabric wall behind the headboard.  Most people assume it’s wall paper, but it’s actually fabric!  I used an old Army

Announcing – MMS German Glass Glitter

Today, I want to share some super exciting news!  Some of you may have guessed this was coming some day, but it’s finally here.  I am so proud to announce the launch of Miss Mustard Seed’s German Glass Glitter by Meyer Imports! I’ve been selling it for a while, but I’ve been bottling it myself, so I’ve only sold it in small quantities in my retail space and online.  It was time to think bigger than buying canning jars at the grocery store and filling them in my basement.  Literally!  (Why do all of my plans involve me boxing up stuff in my basement?!) So, to get me out of my basement, I have partnered with Meyer Imports, who is going to distribute my custom blend of fine & course grits that makes, in my opinion, the perfect glitter.  The coarse grit gives texture and the fine gives full glittery coverage. So, how do you use

Barn & Willow

A few months ago, I decided I was ready to change out the drapes in my family room.  I had wanted to for a while, but the idea of actually making eight drapery panels (the proper way…lined and hemmed) was overwhelming and prevented me from actually doing anything. Enter a timely e-mail from Barn & Willow.   Barn & Willow’s founder, Trisha, contacted me to see if I would be a guinea pig for their new drapery line. When I learned that French pleats and Belgian linen were involved, I was happy to sign on.  I also loved the idea of working with and supporting an entrepreneur who was pushing towards her goals.  Trisha wasn’t new to textiles and drapery and home decor, but she had a vision that finding the perfect drapes for your home shouldn’t be difficult, so she launched her own company. I know exactly what she means, because I’ve been

While getting ready for Lucketts…

A lot of food gets burned, because I’m trying to fit too many things into one day.  I’ll check my e-mail or set up a photo shoot while I’m trying to cook and inevitable food burning happens. I should be making my bed and picking up every day, since our house is on the market, but that doesn’t always happen. I stay up way past my bedtime, because I’m working in the basement all day and then doing computer work at night and there just aren’t enough hours… We carry a lot of furniture.  A piece gets carried to the car, to the basement, up to the house for photo shoots, back to the basement, up again to be loaded, unloaded at the fair and then loaded one last time into the buyer’s vehicle.  It’s a lot and I’m sore! I get really dirty during the day.  We should have

Antique Farm House Giveaway

I don’t usually have two giveaways in one week, but that’s just how things worked out! If you’ve read my blog for a while, I’m sure you’re familiar with Antique Farm House, the sister site to Decor Steals.  They have awesome reproduction antique-ish, farm house-y things.  My kind of things.  They are launching a new “French Bistro” even today with lots of new products as well as some popular favorites.  Here’s a peek… These candle cloches are actually featured in the May issue of Better Homes & Garden, which is pretty exciting for the AFH team! I like that you have a pretty cloche when the candle has burned down. So, for the giveaway… Two lucky commenters will each receive a $50 gift card to Antique Farm House  AND they are offering a third prize: one candle jar in the scent the winners chooses.  Here are the five ways to

the perfect jeans

When I set out to go shopping for jeans last Wednesday, I was about 87% sure that tears would be involved…or at least that I would go home in a discouraged funk.  Jean shopping is just hard.  They might fit well in one place, but not in another.  They’re comfy, but they’re not flattering.  They’re flattering, but they’re not comfy. Living in a small town, I have limited options.  When I didn’t find a winning pair at GAP, I went to the Levi’s Outlet.  Of course, Levi’s, being a jean company, had a wall full of jeans.  I started exploring all of the options and combinations.  There are a lot!  Different styles, rises, colors and Curve IDs.  I knew I wanted skinny jeans (I looked at the skinny and slim), so I could wear them with boots and I think they flatter my figure best.  I don’t like low rise

Going to SNAP!

Today I’m heading to Baltimore to board a plane bound for Utah.  We drove through the corner of Utah last summer on our family vacation to Colorado and the Grand Canyon and loved every second of that state through the car windows.  I wish I was going to hike in Zion National Park and take some pictures in Arches, but those will have to wait for another trip.  This trip is about creativity, hanging with friends and sharing my love of milk paint. I’m going to the SNAP! Conference to teach a hand’s on milk paint workshop. Getting ready for this one has made me think of the first blog conference I attended – Blissdom in January 2011.  I was a baby blogger then and had only met a couple of other bloggers in real life.  I was a mess as the conference was approaching.  I felt like I needed

HGTV.com Photoshoots

Today was about getting all of my freelance stuff finished and, I’m happy to say, I was able to do exactly that.  I had a few final photo shoots and a lot of writing to tackle, so that when I get back from the SNAP conference, I can just focus on pieces for Lucketts. My favorite photo shoot of the day was of the handmade breadboard… We have the most amazing bakery right down the street from our house, so I went there to get a rustic French loaf for the shoot.  It definitely made the breadboard look even better. We made two bread boards out of a nasty old board that I think used to be a table leaf.  It was very rough, but I had faith it would look good once cut, sanded and waxed.  I think it looks amazing and the board was only $5, so that’s
