getting my house back

As many of you know, we put our house on the market back in April and it didn’t sell.  We didn’t even get an offer.  So, we decided to stay put, work towards some goals and look for a commercial space to use as a studio for our business.  We found an awesome one and moved into it a couple of weeks ago. Getting all of the business stuff out of the house and getting some separation between the two has been amazing and eye opening.  I knew the business was taking over the house, and we have the empty spaces now to prove it, but I didn’t realize how much it was affecting my decorating decisions and/or lack of decisions.  I wasn’t viewing my home as just a home, but a backdrop and studio and work space and it was just too much.  It’s great to have multi-functional spaces,

toronto trip & studio tables

This has been such a full week so far and a lot of things have been going on in the studio.  It’s been so exciting seeing my vision take shape and it’s still hitting me afresh every day how much I needed a space outside of my home.  While I have been spending a lot of time on the studio and things for the Chapel Market, another big focus has been preparing for my trip to Toronto next week.  I don’t think I’ve shared much about it, but I am making my “Canadian debut” at the Toronto Home Show for Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.  Crazy, right?  I’ve been having phone interviews and the publicist is lining me up for TV appearances and meet & greets when I’m there. (Yeah, that’s me and Tommy…they guy who works with Sarah Richardson.  I’m sure a lot of people who know who he is and

filming, look books & a gift

Today Kriste, Jeff and I worked on making some more milk paint how-to videos.  One of them involved a plume of Tricycle milk paint and some giggles, but that’s the kind of stuff that’s entertaining and shows that mixing milk paint shouldn’t be taken too seriously.  It’s supposed to be fun! Now that we have the first video under our belt, Kriste was much more relaxed and I felt more comfortable interacting with someone else and not just yakking away.  This is our view when we’re filming… …and the GoPro camera and shotgun mic are hanging from my pot rack.  It’s a little makeshift, but it’s doing the trick! As we were filming, Jeff slinked out because a truck arrived to deliver our look books!!  Kriste and I ran out to check them out.  They are beautiful. I cannot express how proud I am of our team who worked on this…  Heidi,

MMS Yard Sale!

Yep!  I’m having a yard sale.  For the past few years, I’ve focused on antique sales and the idea if having a yard sale on top of that was too much, so I’ve just been taking stuff to thrift stores and giving things away.  It’s just easier.  A couple of weeks ago, one of my friends asked if I would like to join her in a yard sale she is having.  I’ve been doing a lot of purging lately, so I decided to say yes. Here are the details… The sale will be at an old commercial building formerly known as Distelfink.  (Locals will know what I’m talking about!)  The address is 2710 Old Harrisburg Rd, Gettysburg, PA, which is just off the Rt 15 Hunterstown exit.  (Turn west towards Biglerville.)  My dad put up signs that say “Yard Sale MMS” on Rt 15 at the exit.  And just look

what we're looking for…

We’re still waiting for our house to sell.  For those who think I’ll sell my house and we’ll move and it’ll be some big secret, you’re mistaken!  I will be shouting it from the rooftops when our house sells and we are getting ready to move.  I guess I may have to wait until the ink is on the paper, but I will let you know as soon as possible. As I was thinking about it, I don’t think I ever shared what we’re looking for in our next place. A lot of people have asked why we’re moving.  It boils down to two things.  The first one is our business, Mustard Seed Interiors.  We’ve been running it out of our home and basement and we’ve grown beyond that point.  Instead of renting a space that would force me to work outside of the home, we want to have a

Antique Farmhouse Giveaway

I really love that some retailers are catering to those of us who love things that are vintage and antique.  While I almost always prefer the real deal, there are pieces that are best to buy new for reasons of function or practicality or cost.  One of the companies offering some great new/vintage home decor pieces is Antique Farmhouse.  Here are some of their latest finds, fresh off the truck… Pretty awesome things, right?  I love those stools, especially.  If you like their stuff as much as I do, this giveaway is for you!  Antique Farmhouse is offering two $50 gift cards to spend in their online shop.   Here are the five ways to enter (leave a separate comment for each action)… Entry one: Just leave a comment on this post. Entry two: Check their events and leave a comment here letting me know which event you like the most or which

six months with T1D & JDRF walk to cure

I don’t talk about a lot of personal things on this blog.  It’s mostly about my home and business and you learn about me along the way.  I sometimes talk about clothes, food, fitness and things that may be on my mind, but this isn’t a blog about keeping you updated on all the details about my family.  When my five year old son was diagnosed in January with type one diabetes, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share it on my blog.  My initial thought was to not share it.  But it was a lot and I needed support and encouragement.  I get a lot of that from my blog readers, many who have followed me for over four years and have cheered me on.  So, I took a deep breath and, in the wee hours, in a plastic hospital room chair, with tears in my eyes, I poured my
