Baby Jewel’s Wall Decal Giveaway!

I have the pleasure of working with a lot of amazing sponsors who sell really neat things or provide great services.  I’m so pleased to be able to offer a giveaway from one of them, Cat of Baby Jewels.  She has made some personalized things for me to use for my business, including a fondant stamp… …and a self-inking business stamp… …and she most recently made a fabric decal for the wall in my space at Lucketts.  I received it just before I went on vacation, so I don’t have a picture of it to share.  It looks amazing, though!  The fabric decals feel and look like silk and are repositionable over 100 times!  In addition to the decal designs shown, a decal can be made out of any of the stamp designs in Baby Jewel’s shop in your choice of two colors.  Cat is generously giving one of my readers

my dirty little secrets

Picture this…I have very important dinner guests over to my house.  I welcome them into my kitchen. They compliment my bright white cabinetry.  I’m finishing some dinner prep and chatting with everyone, gracious hostess that I am.  Are you with me? One of the guests asks if she can do anything to help me.  I ask her to grab a bowl out of the upper right cabinet.  She sees this… ..she passes out.  Babies cry.  Children cover their eyes.  The fathers grab their families and leave in disgust. I’m left standing alone in my kitchen…in my disgrace. Okay, okay!  I’m guilty.  I didn’t paint the inside of my cabinets or cabinet doors.  I didn’t and I’m okay with it!  I’ll shout it from the roof tops and show it to the world on my blog!!  I DIDN’T PAINT THE INSIDE OF MY CABINETS OR DOORS!!!! In all seriousness, I was just too impatient (in case

Summer HGTV.com Tutorials

Summer came early for me this year as I started decorating for it in April.  I’m learning that when one works as a freelance tutorial writer for magazines and home decor sites, the seasons get pretty muddled.  It’s been a learning process and definitely a fun one.  My summer decorating ideas and tutorials are now available on HGTV.com.  Sea Shell Mirror I sold this at the Lucketts Antique Market in May. Nautical Twine Lamp and Shade Patriotic Bunting This one was fun to figure out and would be great if you need a custom size.  Simple Outdoor Pillow This pillow is easy to make and will open up an entire world of fabrics to use on your porch, deck, patio or Lanai.  Made-from-scratch Window Boxes You can also read my tutorial on how to make a plastic planter look like concrete in the current issue (July 2011) of Cottages and

John Millen Hardware Milk Paint & Wax Giveaway!

I have a confession to make.  I have been holding out on you, my readers.  I started using a paint a few months ago and have not shared it with you.  Yes.  I confess.  I’m a terrible, horrible, selfish, wretched blogger.  Whew!  I feel so much better now that I have that off my chest.  To assuage my guilt, I am hosting an amazing giveaway.  John Millen Hardware is graciously offering one winner their choice of two Old Fashioned Milk Paint colors, plus one tin of Fiddes and Sons’ Clear Wax and one tin of Rugger Brown Wax.  Milk Paint is the secret behind my super-chippy pieces that always get a big reaction.  I sold this one even before I could get it to the Lucketts Antique Market in May and I had two other people ask to buy it (even with a SOLD tag on it.) (Color – Slate) I’m going to make

the hardware, the cow and more

I revealed my painted cabinets in my post yesterday and here is what it looks like with the new hardware. It is so true that hardware is the jewelry in a kitchen.  It’s like a simple dress that’s brought to life with the right necklace.  The bronze hardware really pops against the white and gives the kitchen a more farmhouse sort of look.  I just love it! I’ll share all of my sources, colors, products, etc. in a future post.  Since I didn’t get to upload the pictures yesterday, I wanted to give a preview of my family room.  I’ll do a full “before and after” post once I get the curtains and some other things finished, but that is going to take me a few weeks and I don’t want to leave you hanging.  A few readers with a keen eye noticed my cow painting hiding behind the pot

Painted Cabinet Preview & Chalk Paint Winner

I am finally nearing the end of my painting project(s).  I should be painting now, but I’ve totally overdosed on painting the past few days and I just couldn’t muster the strength to do it again tonight.  Here’s a peek at the cabinets… (Just ignore the cords, please.) Love them!  I can’t wait to get the doors back on and the hardware installed.  I’ve also been playing around with the accessories in my family room and I am so ready to sew eight curtain panels and reupholster my French day bed to get these rooms done!  Sigh…all in good time. I made a video today sharing some tips on painting kitchen cabinets.  It’s uploading now and I will post it tomorrow.  Until then, here is the winner of the Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint giveaway… Jan Bush-Wood from Lucy’s Baby!  Congratulations, girl! I have another great paint giveaway lined up for next Friday.  It’s

my farm table & cabinet painting prep tips

I received a few comments about the farm table in my kitchen.  You could see peeks of it in my kitchen accessories post, so here is a full view.  (Ugh…excuse the floor!) I bought it a few months ago at an antique store with every intention of selling it.  I even put a tag on it at one point.  I set it in my living room.  It was totally the wrong size and scale for the space, but I really liked it.  I stained and waxed the top and held onto it to use for the farmhouse chic wedding I styled.  Afterward, I decided to try it in my kitchen, which is not really an eat-in kitchen, but I thought it might work. The size worked perfectly and now there’s a place in the kitchen where my family of four can sit together to eat… …and it gives me a good
