Furniture Makeovers

Furniture Feature Friday – Favorites a Link Party

All of the links were so great, yada – yada and all that.  I know I say it every week, but I seriously could’ve picked at least ten favorites this week.  There were so many lovely pieces, amazing makeovers, stunning rooms…it was really hard to narrow it down.  I want to let you all know that I enjoy visiting all of your links and seeing all of the projects.  When I leave a comment, it is truly sincere.  Not every piece is my taste or how I would finish it, but that’s what makes this party fun.  You can find everything from mid-century modern to French country to curbside chic.  I have always found something positive to say and I really mean it.  Keep it up and know that I’m not just leaving a copy and paste generic comment.  So, here are the pieces that stuck with me this week… This

Furniture Feature Friday -Favorites and a Link Party

I’m ba-ack!  I actually got back on Monday, but it’s taken me a while to get back into the swing of things.  Those who participate weekly may notice I just visited your links and left comments today.  I have really been running behind on things and am struggling to catch up.  As always, there were some very impressive projects and furniture pieces shared a couple of weeks ago.  Here are three of my favorites. Cassity from Remodelaholic and her $15 headboard made out of kitchen cabinet doors.  I’m just going to speak the truth, here.  There are a lot of DIY projects out on blog land, HGTV, in magazines, etc…that clearly look like a DIY project.  Do you know what I mean?  Someone would look at it and say, “oh, you made that yourself out of some old cabinet doors.”  I saw this headboard and it looks like she ordered

Sheet Music Dresser Tutorial

I purchased this antique dresser at an auction for $6.00 last fall. It was a beautiful bird’s eye maple, so it pained me to have to paint it, but the veneer was chipped and bubbled and beyond my ability to repair. So, I had to come up with a way to cover it. Some free antique sheet music from my grandparent’s attic was the perfect solution.  This project was so fun!  Not only did I relish giving the dresser a new life, but I loved finding interesting and unexpected items from around my house for the “photo shoot.”  A naked lamp shade becomes a cloche for books, ironstone, and coral in addition to a display for old photos.  An antique frame painted white becomes a perfect place to feature an antique christening gown and a family letter from the 1880’s held in place by a starfish. One of the keys to decorating with

Furniture Feature Friday – My Favorite & A Link Party

I’m sorry I was late tonight!  I was working on my next SYTYCD post and lost track of the time.  I usually post at 10 pm EST. Just so your girls know, I absolutely love visiting every link each week, so keep the great pieces coming!  There were a lot of posts that I really liked… a French chair, another French chair, painting cherry wood (gasp) and a piano (double gasp), a great reupholstery tutorial,  and a bed turned bench.  Even with all of these awesome posts, one just stuck with me and I chose it as my favorite this week.  Ok..an incubator becomes a coffee table.  Need I say more?   Jennifer from Studio JRU had been eyeing this incubator in her dad’s barn for a while.  She finally pulled it out, cleaned it (thoroughly), and applied a protective coat to bring out the natural beauty of the old wood.  Her hubby was not only

Furniture Feature Friday – A Winner & A Link Party

Ladies, there were some wonderful submissions last week to FFF.  Thank you so much for your participation and it’s so good to hear that many of you enjoy this party as much as I do.  We furniture lovers need to hang together, right?  So, are you ready to learn who won a precious handmade bunny from Anne of Get Your Marth On? The winner is Candace from Crafty Sisters and her gun cabinet makeover!  She doesn’t think she’s good at styling, but I think this cabinet and the contents look fantastic.  To fully appreciate how far this cabinet has come, you must see the before picture… Oh my.  Candace, you are so brave buying that and having a vision for it.  I don’t think I would’ve looked twice.  Adding the molding, new hardware and painting it that pretty shade of gray was the right thing to do.  Wonderful job! Congratulations, Candace!

Furniture Feature Friday Link Party & My Favorite

My goodness, girls, there were so many great pieces posted last week!  I am amazed at the creativity and talent displayed and it was truly hard to choose a favorite.  There was one post, though, that really stuck with me.  Pamela from Be Colorful and her studio makeover blew me away.  She calls it “painted furniture on steroids”, but it all works together.  The furniture is definitely the star in this room and it’s colorful, fun and functional without being over the top. She did a great job at making this desk look stylish instead of stock.  And I love the color and fabric she chose for this otherwise stuffy Queen Anne chair.   I just can’t rave enough about this room and the furniture pieces in it.  Well done, Pamela!  I can’t wait to look through all of the new posts this week.  Here are the rules… 1.) Your post has

Furniture Feature Friday – Winners & A Link Party!

And my favorites from last week are… A fun and funky chair makeover by Kim at The Inadvertent Farmer.   First of all, this chair was really ugly.  It was a blah oak with an even blah-er seat cover.  She borrowed an idea from BHG’s Decorating Ideas for Under $100 and applied foam stickers to up the “fun factor” on this piece.  She then painted it a bright color and covered the seat in a playful fabric.  If you notice, she used the same fabric in a skirt she made for her daughter, who has claimed the chair as her own.  Who can blame her?  A girl’s gotta have good accessories and a chair that matches your outfit is a great accessory! For those of you who aren’t brave enough (or just flat out do not have the ability, patience, or desire) to hand paint a piece, this is a wonderful alternative.  It adds custom
