Gift-Wrapping Ideas with Walmart

Disclosure: This gift-wrapping ideas post is sponsored by .  As always, all opinions expressed are honest and my own. As I shared a couple of weeks ago, I’m feeling extra crafty this year!  I know it’s because we’re home more than usual and creating things not only brings me joy, but it’s a great stress-reliever.  I put on some good Christmas music and I don’t worry about time or what’s happening in the world.  For an hour or two, I can just “be where my hands are” and focus on what I’m making. A few days ago, I decided to use some of that quiet, creative time to wrap some pretty packages for my family and I thought I should share those Christmas gift-wrapping ideas with you!  I ended up with some really cute packages and they were all pretty quick and easy. Before I started on this project, I

Christmas Kitchen 2020

I know you don’t need to hear from me that Christmas is coming fast!  I am definitely feeling it, though.  My house is finally all decorated, though, gingerbread houses have been made, and I’m almost all done with my Christmas shopping.  I’ll be sharing some creative gift wrap ideas tomorrow, but today I thought I would share my kitchen decorated for Christmas along with the gingerbread I made earlier this week… I made the same gingerbread I’ve been making for the past few years.  You can find the mini gingerbread house templates and recipe HERE. Each year, I make some of the same houses, but I’ll also try some new ornaments shapes and gingerbread house templates.  This year, I made some mini houses that sit on the side of mugs… I got that ! …and I hand-cut some ornaments based on 17th-century embroidery designs.  Because, why not? As far as

Blue & White Christmas Living Room 2020

The living room is definitely my favorite room to decorating for Christmas.  I love having a mantel for the stockings and a perfect place to put the tree, so we can all enjoy it.  And I love how everything feels festive and seasonal while still working with my color scheme.  Here’s a little tour of how my blue & white Christmas living room looks this year… You can see more details about the tree in THIS POST. We moved the dresser that is usually in that corner out to the garage and I swapped out the antique birdcage that hangs on the wall with a mirror.  I’ve wanted to try a mirror there for a long time, but haven’t found one that’s the right shape, size, and finish.  I finally found and it works perfectly!  I don’t know if I’ll move it after we take the tree down or keep

easy chunky crochet snowflake tutorial

I wanted to make crocheted snowflakes this year, but I knew I didn’t want to make little lacy, dainty ones.  I didn’t want to get into fine, tedious work with little hooks, but wanted something quick and simple to do while I was watching TV.  So, I worked on making a simple, chunky snowflake that would complement the chunky knit elements in my Christmas decor and would also make nice gifts, present toppers, and components for a garland, etc.  Here is the tutorial for the chunky crochet snowflake I ended up making! It is so sweet and only takes about 10-15 minutes to make each one.  You’ll get quicker as you learn the pattern, and this is a simple project that’s great for beginners. Before I share the tutorial and pattern, I wanted to share some yarn options.  My snowflake is chunky because of the yarn I used, but you

Simple Christmas Decorating in the Foyer

I wasn’t planning on doing much Christmas decorating beyond the living room and dining room, but once I had the Christmas music playing and the tree decorated, I felt inspired and just kept going.  I love it when those moments of inspiration and energy happen. I don’t want to go overboard with trees and decor, but I want to add little touches and hints here and there.  Some greenery, pinecones, a pair of mittens.  Just simple things that make a statement about the season, but aren’t overt Christmas decorating.  So, that’s what I did in the foyer… A large ironstone bowl that was displaced when we shuffled furniture for the tree in the living room tops the pine chest.  I tucked in a few pinecones I collected from the ground around pine trees near the entrance of our neighborhood. I also added a over the antique coat rack.  I wasn’t

Collecting Wallace Sleigh Bells FAQ

I have shared about Wallace Sleigh Bells on my blog (HERE) and social media for a few years and I get the same questions about them regularly, so I thought I would answer them all in one post!  For those who aren’t familiar with them, Wallace Sleigh Bells are collectible bells that were introduced in 1971 by the Wallace Silversmiths.  My Oma, who was an avid collector of anything she wanted to collect, bought one and started a collection she added to each year.  When she passed away and we were cleaning out the attic of her home, we divided her ornament collection, which included the Wallace bells, some antique glass ornaments (like the one commemorating man’s first moon walk), and vintage German ornaments she bought when she visited us in Germany. I ended up with three Wallace Sleigh Bells from her collection…my birth year, Jeff’s birth year, and a

Decorating our 2020 Christmas Tree

Our 2020 Christmas tree is finally decorated!  And, I realize that I’m saying “finally” like it’s December 24!  My tree was decorated on December 7 and that’s not late.  It just feels late when I’m scrolling through Instagram and seeing all of the holiday home tours and my tree is still just wearing lights.  We all need to work on our own schedule, though, and this year, my tree was finished a little later than usual and that’s okay.  It’s up in plenty of time for Christmas! I haven’t changed my Christmas tree decorations dramatically over the past few years, but I’ll just tweak things here and there.  Some years I’ll use certain ornaments and other years I use different ones.  I always reserve the right to add more or less and I like that I can get different looks without having to buy anything new. grain sack tree skirt

christmas decorating | one christmas bell four ways

Last year, I shared a budget-friendly Christmas bell decorating idea post showing six different ways to use some store-bought sleighbells.  You can find that post HERE.  Since I received great feedback from that post, I decided to do another one this year for a set of bells I bought last week. Like the bells I purchased last year, was also from Target and came on a red & white door hanger… You know that red isn’t my color, even during the holidays, but I loved the bells.  They have a nice shine to them, they are heavy, and they hand a handmade look about them.  I think they also have a pretty ring, very important for a bell!  I knew when I bought them that I would want to cut them off of the hanger and use them in different ways. Christmas bell decorating idea no. 1 All of these
