Custom Clay Family Ornament Giveaway

When I first started my business, finances were very tight.  That was the main reason I started my business! My parents helped me get off the ground by getting me some basic supplies, tools, but after that, I had to figure out how to get a business up and running with pretty much nothing to invest in it.  That meant I sold anything and everything I could sell and I did a lot of bartering.  I also called on friends who I knew would help me out. One of those friends was Laura Dreyer.  She was a student in our youth group, so I had known her since she was in middle school, and I had always admired her artistic talent.  When I started my business, she was a graphic design student in college and the timing worked out for both of us to partner up.  She needed a class

decorating with live evergreens

I get asked a lot of questions about decorating with live evergreens, how I keep them fresh, etc., so I thought I would share all of the details in a post. In previous years, I have just used the put-it-in-place-and-don’t-touch-it-method.  With most greenery, that works pretty well.  Really, just put it where you want and leave it alone.  It will dry out and be a crispy mess when you take it down after Christmas, but it will look nice (in most cases) through the holidays. Okay, I guess I did do a little more than that… Make sure to buy greenery that feels hydrated.  (Or clip from bushes/trees that are healthy and well-watered.)  This will extend their life. Store them in a cool place until you’re ready to use them.  I’ve lived in a cool climate, so I would just leave them out on my deck. Give the clippings some

seasons of home | christmas living room

Disclosure: As a part of the Seasons of Home series, this blog post was sponsored by HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  All words and opinions are my own. Of all of the rooms in our house, the living room is the most finished at this point.  There are still things on the to-do list and I am still getting acquainted with the space.  But, I really enjoyed finding a spot for our tree and, more than anything, decorating a fireplace mantle!  I haven’t had one of those for years!   I found the marble stocking hangers at my local HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  I love how the gold base and hooks work with Eulalie’s frame and the marble is a nice, neutral touch. I nestled a mix of fresh and faux greenery along with some pinecones around the hangers.  I love using some fresh greens, so their scent fills the room. The little trees were

forcing paperwhite bulbs

Last year, I forced paperwhite bulbs for the first time and I loved watching them grow. It was a lot like the gingerbread houses…it was something I wanted to do for a long time and finally made it happen.  Here are a few things I learned about forcing paperwhites…. So, I decided to do it again this year.  I purchased the , but I also saw them at Home Depot. There are several methods for forcing the bulbs, but this is the one I used… Forcing Paperwhites | ONE Fill the bottom a shallow bowl with small rocks.   Forcing Paperwhites | TWO Nestle bulbs into the rocks and fill bowl with enough water, so it just touches the bottom of the bulbs.  Don’t put too much water in or it could rot the bulbs.   Forcing Paperwhites | THREE Tuck moss in around the bulbs and spray the moss

seasons of home | Christmas dining room

Disclosure: As a part of the Seasons of Home series, this blog post was sponsored by Couleur Nature.  All words and opinions are my own. In my last house, my dining room was like old reliable.  It was a great backdrop for photo shoots and the light was always amazing.  Not to mention, I just loved that room.  It was very “me”. As I was decorating this dining room and photographing it, I found enjoyment in the process, but I had to be intentional about not doing this… Oh darn it!  I missed a letter in “refinished”.  Sigh, okay.  You get the idea. This room isn’t finished yet, so just know that.  Let’s just enjoy how far it’s come along, though. We hung my chandelier, but otherwise this is how the room started… And here is where it is today, dressed up for Christmas… Before we talk about Christmas stuff,

gingerbread house recipe & templates

A few years ago, I got it in my head that I had admired gingerbread houses long enough and I was going to make them myself.  Not just the graham cracker/milk carton/kit variety, but ones that I made from scratch and decorated with traditional white royal icing.  I played hooky from working in the studio and we spent the day baking and decorating cookies and houses.  This is the gingerbread recipe I use along with the templates I found and the ones I created. It’s now a tradition and a staple of my holiday decorating. When I share pictures, I’m often asked to share my recipe as well as templates, so here they are! Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I just found and followed this gingerbread and icing recipe from The Food Network.  It’s been the recipe I’ve made three years in a row and it always turns out well.

little scandinavian christmas tree

I am always drawn to things that are European, specifically if they are German or Scandinavian.  I am sure that is heavily influenced by my childhood years spent in Germany.  I still remember the wonder I felt when we took field trips to the Christkindlmarkt and that has always stuck with me. So, over the years, I have found my Christmas decor going more in that direction.  Fresh greenery, handmade gingerbread decorations, white candles clipped to the tree, advent wreaths, etc.  I know those aren’t specific to Germany or Europe, but that’s where I first experienced them. When I first saw the back staircase in our new house, I immediately pictured a small Christmas tree in front of it.  I was planning on selecting a small live table-top tree, but I came across an artificial one at Target that had just the look I wanted… is the 35″ tree I
