antique pine chest

With the new bed and the new wall color, things in the master bedroom were falling into place nicely. I’ve been looking for a small dresser/chest of drawers to use as a night stand for Jeff’s side of the bed for a few months, though, and have come up empty.  The ones we used in our last house looked dinky and out of proportion in this new room. For my side, I used this marble-topped chest, which used to be next to our front door in PA.  The size, scale, and color are perfect, so I was looking for something similar to complete the pair. Well, when I was out shopping before Christmas, I found a lovely antique pine chest at a local antique store.  I had seen it on their Facebook page, but it was from a picture taken in the spring, so I doubted it would still be

Stonington Gray

After not writing for over a week, I feel like there is so much to write that I don’t even know where to start.  Really, I’ve been sitting here for about an hour… writing something, getting distracted, strolling Instagram, coming back to the post, deleting it, starting again.  It’s silly.  I think I’m just feeling a little rusty and I need to gather my thoughts.  So, I’ll get a blank piece of paper and do that.  Until then, I’m just going to share about the painting I did.  Well, some of it.  I sort of went on a tear.  And it involved Stonington Gray, as the title suggested. As I’ve mentioned before, and I’m sure you have experienced, decorating is like dominos.  A new mattress leads to a new bed frame (we got on clearance from ), which leads to painting a wall before the bed frame and mattress are

bed crown take two?

Years ago, back when my blog was just a wee little thing, I made a bed crown for our master bedroom.  I wanted to make our cheap mattress on a metal frame look more important and high-end.  And, it doubled as camouflage for a doorway that made arranging furniture in the room awkward. And here it was… This is sort of like looking at an old year book photo! This was before blog beauty shots had to be beautiful and when revealing a finished project with fabric wrapped around pillows and wrinkled bedding was completely okay.   And this was my phase when I decided to forsake blue and give aqua a try.  Which didn’t last very long, so the bed crown, that I pestered Jeff to hang and I was so elated over, soon became something I wanted out of my house. Memories of that fickleness hang around me as

master bedroom | fabric, color & furniture

We knew, even before we moved, that we might be switching some things around when it came to the bed/sleeping situation in our house.  We wanted to get through the move and some projects that were a priority before we made any decisions on it, though. Now that we have some of those priorities behind us, like paint and climate control for the studio, kitchen appliances, etc., we are ready to do some furniture shuffling and make decisions about the master bedroom. I’m going to share more about this in a couple of days, but Jeff and I have been talking about getting a new mattress for a while.  We have a very nice mattress, but it’s too soft for Jeff and too hard for me, so this compromise results in neither of sleeping as comfortably as we’d like.  So, we have found a solution for that and, while we

dining room christmas tree

I wasn’t sure if I was going to get a second tree this year.  It’s been a little hard to really dig into the holiday decorating with it being our first year in this house, but as Christmas crept closer, I just couldn’t resist.  I mean, I had acquired an antique goat cart this summer with the idea that it would hold a Christmas tree.  So, it just had to happen. I picked out a squat spruce tree, which somehow seemed perfect for the goat cart… The tree is kept in a wooden bucket with a box and a paint bucket liner inside to hold the trunk and the water.  I also added a couple of rocks from the yard to keep the box from shifting. Because the tree is so squat, the branches rest against the wall, making it a little sturdier in my make-shift stand. It’s decorated with

master bedroom tour

It occurred me to, as I was angst-ing over spending my entire Thanksgiving trying to get this room holiday-blog-ready, that I haven’t even shown our master bedroom in this new house.  I started doing a room-by-room home tour when we moved in and I got busy with other things and never finished. It also occurred to me, as I was even dragging out bins of Christmas decor and planning on buying a live tree and figuring out how to strategically hang fabric to make it look like I’ve made curtains already, that I need to give myself a break. So, instead of playing with my room like a life-sized doll house just for the sake of pretty pictures, I’m going to share how the room looks now and share my plans for it.  And there’s not one bit of Christmas decor. The first thing about this room is that it’s

seasons of home | christmas living room

Disclosure: As a part of the Seasons of Home series, this blog post was sponsored by HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  All words and opinions are my own. Of all of the rooms in our house, the living room is the most finished at this point.  There are still things on the to-do list and I am still getting acquainted with the space.  But, I really enjoyed finding a spot for our tree and, more than anything, decorating a fireplace mantle!  I haven’t had one of those for years!   I found the marble stocking hangers at my local HomeGoods/TJ Maxx.  I love how the gold base and hooks work with Eulalie’s frame and the marble is a nice, neutral touch. I nestled a mix of fresh and faux greenery along with some pinecones around the hangers.  I love using some fresh greens, so their scent fills the room. The little trees were

seasons of home | Christmas dining room

Disclosure: As a part of the Seasons of Home series, this blog post was sponsored by Couleur Nature.  All words and opinions are my own. In my last house, my dining room was like old reliable.  It was a great backdrop for photo shoots and the light was always amazing.  Not to mention, I just loved that room.  It was very “me”. As I was decorating this dining room and photographing it, I found enjoyment in the process, but I had to be intentional about not doing this… Oh darn it!  I missed a letter in “refinished”.  Sigh, okay.  You get the idea. This room isn’t finished yet, so just know that.  Let’s just enjoy how far it’s come along, though. We hung my chandelier, but otherwise this is how the room started… And here is where it is today, dressed up for Christmas… Before we talk about Christmas stuff,
