Design Consultation Finalists – You Vote!

I had an amazing response to my call for guinea pigs willing to allow me to consult on their spaces and I just couldn’t pick one.  I settled on eleven that appealed to me because of the challenge they offered, their potential, or they just piqued my interest.  So, I need your help to pick the one that will get a free full consultation of their space.  Here are the finalists! ONE Elizabeth from Blue Clear SkyI would love the opportunity to win your design consultation! I have a family room that needs some creative advice. It has great floors and lots of windows and light. I’m going for a rustic farmhouse lakeside feel. I have an awesome old sideboard that we are using for a TV stand that needs to be stripped or painted and I don’t know which way to go. The room also has a fireplace wall

Dining Room Table

Months ago, while almost four feet of snow was on the ground and my spray booth was closed for the winter, I got the itch to paint.  My Craig’s List dining room table had been staring at me for over a year and now it was time to make it what I knew it could be. Would you believe that I found the table and chairs separately?  They are a set, but I bought the table in Carlisle, PA and the chairs in Richmond, VA.  I loved the table and took a gamble that I would be able to find complimentary chairs.  I had no idea that I would find the matching chairs a few weeks later.  My awesome aunt and uncle (the same ones who brought me a truck load of furniture recently) picked them up and stored them for me.  The set has a great shape, but an orange,

Sneak Peek – Dining Room Curtains

It was a giddy moment when my new curtains went up in my dining room this afternoon.  I still have one more panel to make and a few more finishing touches and the dining room will be done**.    The best thing about these curtains?  They look luxurious, but each panel took about 20 minutes to make and cost me only $22.00.    I even made a matching cord cozy to cover my chandelier chain and wires. More to come… **I reserve the right to add, tweak or change anything in the room, large or small, even if the room is declared done.  Such changes may happen without notice and may be changed back at my discretion.  These changes do not need to be submitted in writing and require no pre-authorization.  A state of doneness may only be declared for a limited time.  This dining room is non-transferable and void in states where

Determination and a Treat

Can you believe I fit both of these lanterns in my suitcase and they arrived (on a plane from Florida) intact?  I found them at Ross for only $12/each and I was determined to get them home with me.  Mission accomplished. This is not a foodie blog, but I couldn’t resist sharing a simple and yummy summer treat with you.  A homemade ice cream sandwich is sure to please kids and adults alike.  Simply bake your favorite cookie.  You can use a mix or make them from scratch.  Allow them to cool.  Stuff with a complimenting ice cream, wrap with saran wrap, and freeze until hardened.  Yum. PS – I have not forgotten about the free design consultations.  I picked a few of my favorite comments and I am going to put it up for a vote in a few days.  The winner of the vote will be my test subject.  I’m snapping

A Tribute to Our Creator

This post is totally off-topic, but I thought I would give you a peek into my life as a youth pastor’s wife.  Every year, for a week in late June or early July, a middle-of-nowhere farm in Pennsylvania becomes a tent city of tens of thousands.  They are all gathered for one purpose: to celebrate the Creator of the world through music, speakers, and fellowship.  (And you can buy a killer “cheesecake on a stick.”)  Just to keep it from being boring, my husband is camping with 14 teenagers and I am staying in a hotel room with two toddlers.  It’s going to be a crazy few days. A real highlight for me was seeing Downhere live this afternoon.  They are one of my very favorite bands, so it was a real treat.  I’ll be chasing my boys around the campsite most of my time, there, so I won’t get to attend

It’s the Perfect Kitchen, but…

…it’s not “me.”  You can put me down as the biggest whiner on earth.  I have a big kitchen with tons of storage, nice cabinets, new counters, quality floors, good lighting…and I still want to do a total makeover.  I have not shared a whole lot about my kitchen, because it’s not my taste.  It’s all great, but I can’t wait to change it.  I would almost prefer a really dated kitchen that is falling apart, so it would have to be a priority!  (Okay, not really.) Here are some of the things I want to change… I want this modern kitchen to have the look of an old farmhouse kitchen that will blend better with the rest of our 1940’s home.  I want it to be in blues and whites with French Country flair.  I want to be able to display all of my ironstone, blue and white dishes,

Fresh Cupcakes

Before we go into my post for today, I want to thank you all for the wonderful comments on my post about design consultations.  I am really excited at the prospect and I can’t wait to get to work on one.  I must admit…I want to work on them all, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day.  I’ll select one in a few days, so you can still leave a comment if you’re interested in a free design consultation by yours truly.  I found this wonderful antique window at the Lucketts Market for $4.00 and couldn’t pass it up.  I’m a sucker for wavy glass.  I didn’t take a “before” picture, because it was a crazy weekend, but just image this window without the writing on it.  I decided to experiment with painting on glass and this was the perfect opportunity. After looking around online for some ideas, I settled on a “Fresh

Design Consultations & Design Star

I get a lot of e-mail with design or technical questions about furniture or room makeovers and have even had a few people suggest I offer design consultations.  I have thought about it, but I really felt like I work best when I can physically feel a space, but maybe I’m wrong.  Wanna be my guinea pig?  I am offering a free full room consultation for one of my readers, so I can test some things out.  I have no idea what the consultation will look like, but we’ll find out together.  I promise that I will give your room a lot of attention and thought.  So, if you’re interested, simply leave a comment letting me know which room you need some help with and what the main challege is.  If I choose your room, you will have to provide pictures, measurements, what you have to work with, and what your skills and budget are.
