Houston Trip | Part Two

I took some time today to recover a bit from my trip to Houston this weekend.  I got a lot of things done around the house, too, and I’ll post about that later.  Tonight I’ll share a bit more about the trip and the workshop. I must start with saying Mandie and her husband were such wonderful hosts.  My mom and I stayed in comfortable rooms and ate delicious food.  Their shop in LaPorte was really cool and a perfect place for the signing and workshop. I arrived in Houston on Friday morning and then we had several hours to eat lunch, get some rest and change.  That was so important because I rolled out of bed at 3:00 am, threw on some sweats and went to the airport and I would’ve been toast that evening if I didn’t have a catnap.  The first event that evening was a free

Houston Trip | Part One

I just got back today from my weekend trip to Houston, Texas with my mom.  Whew, these trips are so fun, but so tiring.  I’ll give a full account later this week, but I wanted to share something tonight. First off, the hospitality was amazing…   …the people were gracious and inspiring…   …we had a fun time playing with paint… …and other products… …I saw Milk Paint do things I didn’t know it could do (like cover rusted metal beautifully)… …and saw first time painters discover hidden talents… …and I even got to see a belt buckle. I was in Texas, after all. More to come…

You can read part one of laying a floating floor HERE.  It shows how we stripped the carpet and installed the underlayment.  Today, I’m going to talk through how we installed the actual floor.  As I said in part one, we’re not professionals at this, so this isn’t meant to be a comprehensive tutorial, but more of a testimony of our experience.   I was a very good blogger and took lots of pictures as we ripped out the carpet and installed the underlayment and then I got tired and the sun set (so my natural lighting went away) and I just wanted to finish, so this was the last picture I took.  When we lay the floors in the bedroom, I’ll take more. As I said in part one, laying the floor was the easiest part of the project.  Since it is a floating floor, there is no gluing,

Furniture Feature Friday – First of 2013

Welcome to the first official FFF of the new year!  If you’re new(er) to my blog, you may wonder what this Furniture Feature Friday is all about.  Well, a few years ago, I noticed some link parties around the blog world.  Bloggers would allow other bloggers to link posts of projects or recipes or whatever they wanted to share that week.  I started participating in these parties and saw a huge increase in my blog traffic and interaction with other DIY/Home bloggers.  At the time, there weren’t any furniture specific parties, so I decided to start one.  I think that was about 2 1/2 years ago.  Now, here we are. This is a place for people to share furniture projects, makeovers, great finds, new furniture arrangements, etc.  It’s JUST furniture, though, so please don’t link up crafts and recipes and stuff.  I do count kitchen cabinets as furniture, so that’s

French Blue | Farmhouse White

My Joss & Main collection, French Blue, Farmhouse White is live and it will run through January 12, 2013.   I shopped for items that I would put in my own home and ones I felt were clearly “Miss Mustard Seed” style.  You can almost recreate my living room with these pieces…       (I would use the cabinet in place of the piano.) Some of the pieces in the collection were even custom made with “my” fabric…     Actually, it’s not my fabric, but it’s pretty darn close.   I hope you find lots of inspiration in the collection and some ideas for how you can replicate my look without having to upholster, sew, strip and refinish everything yourself.  I realize not everyone finds that sort of thing fun and exhilarating as I do.       If you’re not a member of Joss & Main, click HERE

Furniture Feature Friday – Best of 2012

Welcome to a very special Furniture Feature Friday.  This week, you get to share your favorite furniture makeovers and finds of 2012.  You can link up any furniture related posts you want to or a collective post of your favorites pieces of 2012.  Please try to keep these links the best of the best, so we can all enjoy a collection of the most awesome furniture from last year! Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture. 2.) Post a permalink (the link to the post), not the link

Home Projects for 2013

I said in my post yesterday that I have a home improvement list a mile long.  That might be hard to believe, but you have to remember that you see very strategic shots of my home and I’ll often use pieces for photo shoots and then sell them, leaving a big hole in my house.  2012 was a crazy year for me that started with cramming in home improvement projects to get ready for a Better Homes & Gardens photo shoot, the Nate Berkus Show House Proud home tour, then the book, then the Flea Market Style shoot.  The May fair came right on the heels of all of that, then I had the Women’s Day home office shoot, the launch of the paint line, moving to a new space at Lucketts…you get the idea.  It was nuts.  All of these things prodded me to “finish” some rooms in my
