Today my finds were about quality, not quantity. I ran over to the church yard sale across the street from our house (we live in a little downtown area) while my husband was home for lunch. There wasn’t a lot there, but I found a couple of great things! This vintage Pyrex refrigerator box set was in fantastic condition and was only $3.50! I scooped them up so fast I thought for sure I would drop one. …the sticker to prove the wonderful price. I then saw this stack of white bowls. I got a feeling in my gut that I need to turn them over…and bingo! Ironstone. One of my very favorite things. …and the price? Fifty cents. FOR ALL OF THEM! I’m almost afraid to show all of you everything I found all at one Goodwill yesterday. I have been very fortunate lately with my thrift store & yard sale finds…don’t hate me. This vintage suitcase was $1.97…I already had the bench. The frame was one of my most expensive purchases at $6.97. It is old and heavy! Not sure what I’ll do with it, yet, but I couldn’t pass up a nice frame. I’ll spray this $1.97 display stand either white or oil rubbed bronze. I’m not a gold/brass fan. Another piece that’s getting some spray paint. Really neat candle holder, though. It was $1.97. This wooden rabbit pull toy is hand made. Today I made a run over to Goodwill and it was very good to me. Lately, I have been scoring big time, but I do have dry spells, too…just wait. Anyway, I found all of this great stuff at one place for $24.00… This is an antique cobalt blue enamel roasting pan. A great find at $6.97. I’ve been told you can tell a really old roaster by the bottom. If the sides are like the picture below, it’s an old and valuable piece. This is the third mirrored vanity tray I’ve found in the last 3 weeks! Check out my other vanity tray makeover. This set of 4 plates was $2.97! I bought a small green one exactly like this at World Market a few years ago for about $6.00. All of my dishes are blue & white, so these will fit right in. The jury is still out

Here are a couple of simple thrift store makeovers. I found these ceramic birds last week at a Goodwill and fell in love with them. They were pretty as is, but had this weird goldish kind of spray over them, so I decided to spray them a glossy white… …and here they are 2 coats later. Very simple and low cost. Love it! The question is…should I add an antique glaze? Any thoughts?Again, this resin jewelry box was fine, but some of the “gold” was chipping off and I’m not normally a gold kind of gal. So, I sprayed it in Krylon’s Oil Rubbed Bronze (one of my favorites!)And here it is. Very subtle change, but it looks fantastic. I just finished the aqua vanity that was in my basement and I have several other furniture projects in the works. Lots more before & after pics to come!

I love old things and antiques, so I thought I would share some of my very favorites with you… Antique trophies…I found two of these in my grandparent’s attic. Anything silver or silver plated, especially family and monogrammed pieces. I’ve already shared my love of Ironstone and Bakelite flatware. I just learned today that my Uncle’s fiance had a ton of Bakelite and she threw it away! Just kill me now or maybe kill her now…ok, I’m getting a little too violent about Bakelite. Let’s move on… Linen napkins, tea towels, table cloths, and serving pieces, especially if they’re monogrammed. I don’t even mind ironing them. Old quilts. This was one out of my husband’s grandmother’s collection. Old family photos. Isn’t this one gorgeous? I found it in my grandparent’s attic. I’m not sure who it is, but I love it. You never know what to expect when you go out to yard sales. Last week was gray and wet and I came back with a great haul. This week, the sun was shining, the weather was gorgeous, there was a community yard sale…those are the makings of a great day of treasure hunting. I got $60 out of the ATM, ready to spend. It was after 10:00 and I was empty handed. Then I spotted this neat little table and some gutter parts sitting on a driveway. A sign said “Free.” I looked around in disbelief. The table is free? I grabbed it up half expecting that someone was going to yell at me for stealing! I’m not sure what I’ll do with it, yet, but how could I pass up FREE? Look at this beautiful inlay!
