Vintage Pillow Cases & Sofa Update

When I went shopping earlier this week, I found an amazing pair of vintage pillow cases.  I’ve never seen any as long as these.  They’re probably a good 12-18″ longer than the pillow.  They were exactly what I’ve been keeping my eyes opened for.  My pillow, which is down, is always popping out of the case through the night.  I have tried at least eight different cases and they all did the same thing.  So, I was looking for one that was longer or one that had an envelope closure.  Jeff was having the same problem with his pillow because it’s a flat memory foam pillow, so he was using a flannel Snoopy pillowcase I had since I was a kid.  Of course, I always got a little twitchy when I made the bed and saw the Snoopy pillow peeking out from all of my pretty pillows.  But, the man’s

Ladies, I am so giddy with how well things have been going on The Mustard Seed Pages!!  If you don’t know what that is, check out THIS POST.  Hundreds of items have been listed and I know a lot of things have been bought and sold.  It seems like it’s a success so far.  Many of you have had great suggestions for it and I’m making the immediately tweaks that I can and keeping the rest in mind as it grows.  If it gets big enough, I’ll have it moved to its own site where we can customize it even further.  For now, it can just be our little marketplace (that’s not very fancy.) Today, I finally got out of the house.  I realized I haven’t been out for weeks!  I mean, I’ve been to the grocery store and church and to the hospital, but not any fun trips.  Today,

the new horse

The new horse actually arrived yesterday, but I was so busy listing things in my online shop that I didn’t even open the box.  That’s unusual for me, because most of the time the arrival of a box causes me to drop everything as I get distracted with new, fun things.  But it had to wait.  Jeff and I spent hours today packing up almost 40 orders that were placed yesterday.  We’re still figuring out a good system, but we learned a lot today.  I am going to switch to a different kind of online shop that will work much better for the kind of shopping frenzy that ensued yesterday after I posted a bunch of stuff.  I’m holding off on listing more until we get the technical stuff figured out in order to minimize frustration for shoppers.  I also am aware that my site has been down some over

The new sofa has arrived!

Today was the day!  For someone who usually hauls their furniture from a thrift store, yard sale, auction or antique shop, it’s a luxury to have a piece that’s finished delivered right to my home and placed in the very spot I want it.  I’ve only experienced that one other time – with the bed in the master bedroom. (For those who are catching up, I bought the Brooklyn Sofa from Pottery Barn a few weeks ago.)  Last night, I started getting nervous about it.  It’s a huge purchase and I am fickle when it comes to furniture.  Would it look as good in reality as it did in my head?  I started to imagine that it would look hideously orange in my space or too big or too small or just all wrong…  Or, that it was perfect, but had a huge slice in the leather or a leg

Horse Trade

I found this rocking horse at an antique store a couple of years ago.  I had seen it there for a long time…maybe even a couple of years and it always caught my eye, but I never took the plunge and bought it.  One day, though, I decided I couldn’t resist it anymore and I bought it with the intention to sell it at the Lucketts holiday open house.  As soon as I got it home, though, you can guess what happened.  I wanted to keep it.  So, I did. I liked the quirky charm of it, but the red details always felt a little off to me.  I was willing to overlook that, because I loved the horse so much. Now that I’m purging things that aren’t just right, I decided it was time to let the horse go to a home where it is just right.  (I actually

Ironstone & an Ektorp Sofa Review

I mentioned I got a new haul of ironstone last week.  Well, here it is… Not only is it a lot of ironstone, but a lot of really great pieces including this four piece tureen set with platter, lid and ladle. The details on the handles are really pretty.  I love this piece, but I already have a few tureens, so I’ll be selling it. Another stunning piece is this large compote.  It’s chippy, but I’m cool with that. …some sugar jars… …lidded casseroles, a couple of butter dishes, butter pats, pitchers, small plates… …platters… …and a huge footed bowl (behind the pitcher.)  Lots of ironstone goodness.  I need to figure out what I want to keep and put a collection together to sell.  I will list some in my online shop, but let me know if there’s something you’re interested in.  I am a little nervous about shipping ironstone,

French Charmed Pillow Slips & Eye Candy

I am a total sucker for a good decorating book.  I know there is Pinterest and blogs and all sorts of online goodness when it comes to decor inspiration, but there’s just something different about having a book in your hands, turning the pages and taking in the scenery.  My husband and I used to go to bookstores and go our separate ways to browse and put together wish lists of the books we wanted to buy or receive as gifts.  There’s almost always a decorating book under the Christmas tree for me. So, when French Charmed, one of my sponsors, asked if I was interested in receiving the new book, Vintage by Nina, well…yeah!  And this book didn’t disappoint in the inspiration department.  It’s an expensive book, but it’s big and thick and filled with beautiful pictures. I don’t look at decorating books to copy them exactly, but to

German Glass Glitter

** I’m sorry I sold out of glitter so quickly.  I just ordered more and will have it back in stock ASAP! ** Years ago, I read an article about German glass glitter featuring Wendy Addison.  I think I even clipped out the article and put it in my old school, pre-Pinterest “idea binder.”  Fast forward to when I started my business. The very first thing I made was hand painted wooden ornaments, but the second holiday season, I wanted to do something different, so I sought out the German glass glitter I fell in love with in that magazine article. I remember getting my first order.  It was so sparkly and beautiful…not like any other glitter out there.  I started glittering anything that would hold still long enough… Paper pinwheels… …Pine Cones … …a metal star found for a dollar at a thrift store that topped the Little tree in the living room last
