free shopping resource & $250 RetailMeNot giveaway

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by RetailMeNot.  All opinions and experiences shared are, as always, honest and my own. It’s that time of year.  Along with the decorating and baking and parties, there is shopping.  (And wouldn’t it be nice to win an extra $250 VISA gift card to spend on some of those expenses?  Scroll down to enter the giveaway.) And not just present shopping, but the-boys-have-a-Christmas-concert-and-need-black-pants-and-a-white-dress-shirt shopping and Calvin-needs-a-new-pair-of-of-winter-gloves shopping and the-heel-on-my-favorite-pair-of-boots-is-flapping-so-it’s-time-to-look-for-a-new-pair shopping.  (I am planning on getting them repaired as well, but they have worked hard for many years and they are looking tired.) Believe it or not, I don’t particularly enjoy months with lots of shopping.  Drop me in the middle of an antique market and shopping is my favorite, but drop me in the middle of a busy mall during the holidays and it’s definitely not.  I also get a little stressed trying to fit

Linenbees Giveaway

A few months ago, I was browsing around on Etsy and found a simple linen dress that looked comfy, but stylish.  I ordered two.  They are now a wardrobe staple for me and I’ve added more linen dresses to the mix. I also started working with that Etsy shop, as a blog sponsor. The shop is run by a mother-daughter team in Latvia and each garment is tailor-made for the buyer.  I love pulling something out of the package, knowing it will fit me perfectly. One of my favorites right now is this simple black .  I paired it with some leggings and an 1800’s petticoat (isn’t that lace to-die-for?)  The boots are from and the necklace is Lucy’s Inspired. A bit Little House on the Prairie?  Maybe.  But I feel good in it, so I’m okay if some people think it’s eccentric.  I am “artsy” after all and you can

leather boots & linen aprons

If you’re observant, you may notice I have a favorite pair of boots.  They are my go-to for events, photo-shoots, videos, church, tooling around, etc.  Basically any time I need to wear “real clothes”. They are the Deerfield boots from LL Bean and Jeff bought them for me for Christmas a few years ago.  They don’t carry the exact style any longer, but they offer a few that are similar.  Anyway, they are comfy and they just get better with age. I honestly don’t mind that they are scuffed and wrinkled, but I figured they could use a little TLC. Kriste wrote a post for the MMSMP blog about hydrating and polishing her leather booths with our Hemp Oil and 100% Beeswax Finish.  Her boots looked amazing and I happened to have both products on hand (duh), so I tried it on my favorite boots. Believe it or not, I

a shopping trip & a cleaning day

A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to “breakfast at Ballards” a celebration of the opening of the new Ballard Designs store in the King of Prussia mall near Philly.  Usually, invitations like this are too far for me to travel, but this one was just a couple hours away, so Kriste and I decided to take the day to attend the event and do some non-antique shopping. We started super early, so we could make it to the mall in time for the breakfast and to tour/shop the store.  I’ve never been in a Ballard store before, but I have to say that it’s worth it if you have one near you.  I’ve been getting their catalogs, but everything is even prettier in person. I now have the distinction of being the second shopper ever at that Ballard store.  I bought some blue and white checked pillow cases for

royal scout giveaway

Once the milk paint line started taking off, my business became more about no’s than yeses.  I said no to blog tours, giveaways, almost all sponsored posts, antique fairs and special events I was invited to.  I was saying no to pretty much everything and I think that’s what I needed at that time.  I needed to simplify and focus. I got to the point, though, where I felt a little isolated.  I wasn’t plugged into this amazing online community of entreprenuers, creative souls, kindred spirits and all-around fun people like I once was. I decided to start saying “yes” more.  Intentional and careful, yeses, but more of them.  And I’ve had a great time being a part of a few blog tours, working with more brands again and introducing my readers to great products (and giving them a chance to win some!) So, when I recently received an e-mail from

golden tote review

If you went clothes shopping with me, you would notice a trend in the things I collect to try on.  Most of the items are navy, black or gray and I don’t stray far from jeans and a cute, but comfy shirt, scarves and jackets.  I always feel a little out of my depth; trying to find what will fit, flatter and be current, yet age-appropriate, funky, yet professional.  I worked with Ella, a stylist, a few months ago and that helped a lot.  She didn’t push me into a new style or buying a bunch of clothes.  She just showed me how to wear the clothes I had.  I’ve slowly been adding new pieces to my wardrobe and have been trying to step out of my comfort zone a bit. So, when I received an e-mail from Golden Tote about working with them, I figured that would be a fun way

whole30 results & styling session giveaway

I know some of you have been waiting to hear about my whole30 results and I can’t believe I haven’t shared them before now!  I wanted to share, but I’ve been debating with myself about how much to share and I always need a little extra time to work up the courage before I get really personal. So, here is my whole30 review and the results… Deep breath, muster that courage and here we go. In case you missed it, I spilled my guts about my food/body image/yo-yo dieting issues HERE.  I gave an update on day 11 of whole30 HERE.  All of the tears and tantrums happened before day 11, so it was pretty boring from that point on.  I got into a rhythm and eating real, whole foods became a habit.  I still had my ups and downs, though.  I really wanted to see “miracle-esque” weight-loss results after just a couple
