moved in

I moved into my current room (more like an alcove) on the first floor at Lucketts back in December, but I have never really moved in.  I sort of dropped off the boxes and made do.  Karen and Jennifer have been filling the space for me while I worked on my book and went through a few other things that weren’t quite as fun.  When I brought my stuff there on Thursday, it felt like the first time I was really moving into the space and getting settled there.  I am still planning to patch and paint the walls, do something new with the curtains and hang a few things from the ceiling.  I’m looking forward to when I have the time to do that.  Until then, it’s starting to look like “me.” I’m working on some rewriting for the book, so I’m just going to let the pictures do

restocking my room

My *plans* have been derailed so often lately that I’m hesitant to use the word. I’m afraid my spleen will burst or we’ll have an epic snow storm in April or maybe lose power for two days. Who knows. I am just using the word *plans* generally. So, when I planned to go to Lucketts this Thursday, I wasn’t going to hold my breath. Tomorrow is Thursday and the plans are looking good.  (I’m wincing right now…) I’ve been pricing, sorting, cleaning, loading (only a little) and working on last minute things I can take to restock my space.  It’s almost like I’m moving in all over again.  I moved into my new space on the first floor in December, but Karen and Jennifer started babysitting the space for me almost right away.  I had a few pieces in there, but now all you’ll find is one dresser, a handful

Lucketts Eye Candy

On the way back from the Annie Sloan workshop yesterday, I stopped in at Lucketts to pay my rent and check out my space.  I really miss that place!  I was looking forward to getting my space filled again after working on the book, but then my gallbladder decided it wanted a divorce, so that upended those plans.  I’m hoping to get some pieces ready this week, so I can move back into my space next week.  I can’t thank Jennifer and Karen enough for keeping my space full and beautiful in my absence. While I was there, I couldn’t help but snap some pictures of some things that caught my eye…   I love these chairs and was pretty tempted at $98/each, but I know I can find ones like this on Craig’s List for a lot less and I have enough upholstery projects to keep me busy. Hello legs…

A Visit to Lucketts

Well, I finally crawled out of my writing-induced hermit shell yesterday and spent the day at Lucketts and running some errands.  It was mostly book-related, but it was so nice to be out and about (and out of sweatpants.)  I went to have my picture taken by the very talented Jody McKitrick.   We had never met before, but we were providentially brought together last year by my Union Jack dresser and now she’s helping me out with a little photography for my book.  I really needed a few professional shots of myself for promotional purposes, for the book jacket and some interior shots of me shopping, taking pictures, etc.  Lucketts was the perfect backdrop.  What’s so funny is that I ended up finding (and buying) an awesome primitive table in the process.  I picked out the pictures I liked this morning and can’t wait to share some of them as well as

Lucketts & the “big thing”

Before I get to the “big thing” I’m working on, I wanted to let you know about a special event happening at Lucketts this weekend.  Not only is the Design House going to be open, but a very special guest will be there…Dinah Corley, the author of Gourmet Gifts, for a book signing.  The book looks like a feast for the eyes and I’ve heard that Dinah is a delight.  Here are a couple of photos from her website…       Beautiful, right?  There will also be doughnuts to snack on while you’re shopping, a wreath-making demo on Saturday and smores and Christmas lights Friday from 5-8pm.  Oh, I wish I could go!  It’s going to be a special weekend, so try to make it if you can. Speaking of Lucketts, I’m going there tomorrow to downsize my space.  I’m moving to a small alcove in Karen’s room on the first floor.   It’s

{right back where I started}

This phrase is usually about something negative.  Oh, like…I lost 35 lbs, but now I’m right back where I started.  Not that I have any idea at all what that feels like.  But in this case, it’s a great thing.  Many of you ask how I do all of the things I do.  When I sleep.  Is my energy for sale.  Am I bionic.  (I’m double-jointed, but I’m not sure that does anything for me other than making my thumb bend back at an angle that grosses people out.)  I wrote a post answering that question a while ago, but since then I have taken on even more and despite my boys in preschool and bringing in babysitters to help out, I’m still struggling to keep up with everything.  AND I have more exciting things around the corner, so the time came to reassess things.  What can I give up?

Lucketts Holiday Open House

Yesterday was all about Lucketts. I went down there to get my room ready for the open house.  (Minus the sofa.  Poor Ruthie was up until 3:30am on Thursday working on that thing and just couldn’t make it to Lucketts in time, so she’s bringing it early tomorrow and will help me haul it up the stairs.  Talk about above and beyond.)  I did have some great help today, though, and we got the place looking sparkly and ready for Christmas.   OK, I have to explain this tree topper.  I know it’s ridiculous on that dinky tree.  I had planned on getting a lush, live tree, but it just wasn’t going to fit and the thought of dragging it up the steps and everything that was involved just didn’t seem worth it.  So, I pulled this little guy out of my basement and the paper star I had intended

shopping while hungry, snow & speculoos

You know the saying, “Never shop for groceries when you’re hungry.”  Well, I went “shopping while hungry” so to speak. My space at Lucketts was empty and I was pretty anxious about getting it stuffed to the gills for the holiday open house (November 4-6.)  Well, I shopped and sourced and scrounged and made bins and bins of ornaments and now the place is definitely stuffed.  Busting at the seams.  And I still have more at home.  I was planning on bringing in a live tree, but I think that will just take up too much space (I still have to fit a sofa somewhere in this space!)  So, I’m going to bring in the plastic slim tree from home.  Not exactly what I wanted, but it will fit a lot better. Here’s what the room looks like now…             All in all, I’m really
