$2500 Bliss & Tell “Foodie” Giveaway

I have been very blessed throughout my business journey to work with talented people.  My dear friend Laura created my logo and the beautiful illustrative buttons on my side bar.  Later on, the lovely and talented Reni from Bliss and Tell Branding Company built on Laura’s designs to create a complete look for my products and blog (a new look is coming soon!) Branding is a key part to the success of a business.  It’s not everything, but it’s very important.  How many of us have bought a toilet brush just because it was cuter and packaged nicer than the one next to it?  I know I have! Bliss and Tell Branding Company currently specializes in creating a brand identity for creative businesses…  (You can check out Reni’s work in her look book below.) B&T is now branching out to provide services for “foodie-type” businesses and are offering a giveaway

Furniture Feature Friday – Link Party & a Favorite

Well, I’m still getting back into the groove after being away for a week and FFF crept up on me.  I ended up picking one favorite, but it’s a pretty one…  I love this dresser from Deny of Girl and a Brush.  Sometimes all you need is a simple dresser with beautiful lines painted in a pretty color and finished off with some great hardware.  Enough said.  Love it.  (I guess enough wasn’t said…) Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please, please…just furniture. If you find your link has been deleted, it’s not because I’m mean, it’s because your post was not about furniture. You can share makeovers, awesome finds, favorite pieces, furniture arrangements, or even pieces on your wish list! Built-in furniture like kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities qualify as furniture. 2.) Post a permalink (the link to

Painting Baseboards

I am loving my new tile floors.  Sigh.   We did hire professionals to lay the tile properly, but we still had to do some of the finishing work ourselves.  I was glad to install new baseboards, so they would match the ones in the 1940’s part of the house.  They are simple pine boards.  Modern baseboards were installed in the kitchen, so they didn’t match.  This was a good opportunity to give some continuity to the trim work.  My husband cut and installed 6″ pine boards…   …and of course, the painting was left to me.  Now, some people  like to paint trim before it’s installed, but I almost always paint it after it’s installed.  I like to caulk and fill the holes and then paint.  There’s no wrong way to do it, that’s just my preference.  So, Frog Tape is my friend when I’m  painting trim.

Decor Steals MMS Pick of the Month

Welcome to a very special Decor Steals MMS Pick of the Month.  The two questions I get asked the most are – Where did you get the curtains in your living/dining room? And Where did you get that bamboo mat?  This bamboo mat was a happy accident.  I bought two of them from my friend Karen to use in my booth when I did antique fairs.  I had no intention of ever using one in my house.  When they were delivered, though, I had to play around and ended up putting one in my dining room and it has stayed there ever since.    It’s ended up in a lot of my photo shoots…   …and in my spaces at Lucketts…   …and I have a couple of extras for when I set up at the Lucketts fair. This rug is often sold out an difficult to find, but the

Kitchen Tile Reveal

We finally finished the trim work in the kitchen, so I can show you my beautiful new tile from Home Depot!   Sigh. Here’s the before…     Yes, it’s white.  Yes, I have to mop it every few days.  Yes, it shows all the dirt and drips.  But YES, I love it anyway.  See, I had a floor that camouflaged dirt and I disliked it.  A lot.  I’d rather have a floor I love that I have to clean a little more often to keep it looking nice.  It’s a fair trade for me. I ended up going with the 18 x 18″ Carrera Marble Dal-tile.  It’s not real marble, but a more practical, less expensive, very convincing look-a-like.   I followed the advice of the flooring specialist who installed it and had it put down in a staggered pattern.  I followed the advice of my readers and used a

“smile while vacuuming”

When I was a baby blogger and companies started sending me products to review, my mom said, “You should tell them you have an acting background and you’ll do commercials for them.  You can even sing their jingles!”  Ha, okay mom.  My acting days are years behind me and I’m okay with pecking away at my computer and shuffling furniture around in paint-splattered clothes.  I never pursued it.  Well, a couple of months ago, I received an e-mail from Oreck asking if I would like to be involved in their advertising campaign for the new VersaVac.  I think the product is so clever, so I agreed to give it a try.  I sent in a demo tape and just a few weeks later fives guys and a lot of gear came to my house to shoot a commercial.   It’s a good thing I’m totally used to moving furniture around!   I

Oreck VersaVac Giveaway!

***This giveaway is now closed**** I was initially contacted by Oreck late last year when they signed on as a sponsor and sent me my Steam It mop.  I’m sent a lot of things to test out and review and I can say honestly that the Steam It mop is my favorite and I use it all the time.  So, when Oreck asked to send me their new product, the VersaVac, which is a steam mop and vacuum in one, I was ready and willing to try it.    I must admit I was a bit skeptical when I first pulled it out of the box.  I immediately thought of a spork.  It doesn’t stab things as well as a fork and doesn’t hold as much as a spoon, but it can do both things okay.  My initial thought was, this machine is too small and too light to be
