Petite Salon Chair

I think it’s been established and well documented that I love French chairs.  That love encompasses the Gustavian/Swedish/Scandinavian varieties as well.  I’m not particular when it comes to a pretty wood frame with panels of beautiful fabric.  I mean…come on.  Anyway, when Soft Surroundings contacted me about their new home decor line based on French antiques, well, I knew working with them was a good match.    If you’re not familiar with them, they are known for clothing and accessories and have recently branched into home decor and, after looking at their beautiful collection, I was excited to partner with them.  I selected the Petite Salon Chair to take for a “test drive”  in my house. I was thinking about using it at the head of my dining room table, but it is a pretty generous arm chair and I felt was too big for that, so I put it in the corner

Antique Farm House Giveaway

Before I get to painting and photo shoots today, I have a giveaway for Antique Farm House, a sister sight to Decor Steals. If you know me at all, you know their featured sale today gave me heart palpitations.  Feast your eyes on this grain sack goodness… Since I have the advantage of seeing the sale before it launches, I asked for some of the yardage with blue stripes!  I’ve become quite the grain sack (and French chair and ironstone) hoarder, so I can’t help myself.  Here are some peeks at other upcoming items that will be featured on Antique Farm House… Really cool stuff, right?  As you may have noticed by the post title, Antique Farm House is offering a giveaway.   Today’s giveaway is for a $50 credit to Antique Farm House for TWO winners.  Here’s how to enter… Entry one: Simply leave a comment on this post.

A great gift…

A few weeks ago, I shared the new pictures that Maria of Dreamy Whites took for my milk paint line.  They are so beautiful and she captured exactly the feel I wanted to convey.  This picture was one of my favorites… She had painted one of her antique French pitchers in “French Enamel” milk paint.  She let me know she had sent a package to me containing the thumb drive with the high resolution version of the images, so I wasn’t surprised when a delivery truck pulled up and there was a knock at my door.  I was surprised, though, when I opened the door and saw a large box.  I know there’s more than a thumb drive in there!  When you get a large box from someone like Maria, you drop everything and open it.  The scent of lavender wafted out and I hurriedly dug through the tissue.  This

FURNITURE FEATURE FRIDAY – Favorites & Link

Today was all about little tasks like shipping, bills, mail, e-mail, paperwork…all of that mundane stuff that I push aside, so I can paint and create.  It feels good to get that off of my plate, though!  Anyway, let’s get to the furniture… I know that super distressed pieces can sometimes be the most controversial, love-it-or-hate-it-pieces, but they can also be the most striking.  I think this piece by Kathy of Petticoat Junktion is definitely striking…in my opinion. I think this piece by Repurposed Gems is so pretty with the color, distressing and hand painted detail and, of course, the wood top. And I also love the white on wood dresser by Fab Rehab Creations.  The wood grain is fabulous and I love the casual nature of the rope handles.  Great makeovers! Here are the rules for our furniture get-together… 1.) Your post has to be about furniture. Please, please,

Vintage Bliss & Sporting my Colors

Well, two days of retailer training sessions yesterday wiped me out!  Here’s a shot of me teaching yesterday (Thanks, Allison, for the photo!) Last night, I was trying to catch up on e-mail and such, plus I needed time to wind down, so I was up way too late. Well, it was just two days and it was all worth it.  It was such a creative high and so nice to get out of my bubble.   While at the workshop yesterday, I got to check in on the shop of our hosts in Ellicot City, MD, Vintage Bliss. Oh my gosh.  I don’t know how these girls put all of this together.  It’s three floors of loveliness from clothing and boots to kitchenware, furniture, paper goods, jewelry and all things pretty. And I loved seeing their beautiful display of all of my milk paint line and products… They’ve made

St. Elmo & Horses

I spent the day at MMSMP retailer’s training again and it was such an amazing day.  I learned so much from my retailers and have all sorts of ideas.  I also learned some new techniques, which is so exciting.  I know a lot about how to use milk paint, but I can always learn more and it was so great to get outside of my little bubble and see how other artists are using it.  I’ll definitely share some of the tricks of the trade with you down the road.  Today, though, I decided to show off some photos from our vacation to Colorado this summer.  I meant to share them sooner, but I got busy and excited about other things.  With the packed days away from my computer, I figured it was a good time to share them. The first series of pictures was taken at St. Elmo, a

Stop the World & Ironstone Mugs

It’s one of those times in my life when I wish I could just stop the world for about a week, so I can catch up on things that have been put on the back burner for days, weeks, months and even years.   I am on a tear to get things done. I have been organizing my way through the house and am making some real progress, so that’s been encouraging.  I’ve also been getting caught up on e-mail, insurance stuff, paperwork, cleaning my kitchen floor and other not-at-all fun things like that.  It’s slow, but steady, but I’m really ready to have my computer back (the drive died and is being replaced) and get to working on furniture painting and upholstery and creating things. Before that can happen, we do need to be able to…you know…find stuff…and walk in the workshop without having to high-step around and watch out for
